You probably know that frogs hop (双足跳). But did you know that there's a small frog in the Pacific Northwest that belly flops (肚子先着水)? It's called a tailed frog.

Dr. Rick Eisner, who has been studying tailed frogs for the past few years, says, "I've looked at thousands of jumps and have never seen them land on their feet like other frogs." Most of the time, tailed frogs land on their stomachs and then bring their back legs in to prepare for another jump.

Eisner first noticed these frogs because of the way they swim. Other frogs kick both of their back legs at the same time. But when a tailed frog swims, it pushes first with one leg and then the other.

To try to find out why tailed frogs bellyflop, Eisner and other scientists collected and filmed different kinds of frogs. They found that all of the frogs start their jumps the same way: They hold out their legs. The change comes in the landing. Tailed frogs can't move their back legs as quickly as other frogs do. Maybe they don't need to. Tailed frogs live around water and quickly jump into the water to escape danger.

Early frogs developed around watery areas and could jump quickly into the water to escape danger. Scientists think those frogs blended in with (与…融合在一起) the green plants on the side of the rocky rivers, just like today's tailed frogs. "I would guess that other animals would have problems detecting them," explains Eisner. When other animals find those early frogs, the frogs could jump into the river. They didn't need to continue hopping.

Tailed frogs and other kinds of frogs went their own ways about 200 million years ago. Tailed frogs stayed by rivers. Other kinds of frogs moved to places where new hopping skills allowed them to survive.

The concept of good manners varies a lot when we compare different cultures, values and ways of living. However, when we talk about the western part of the world, the differences are not so big. In my opinion, going to a restaurant in Brazil will rarely be an embarrassing situation. But there are some basic and necessary rules of etiquette(礼节)that Brazilians usually respect every day. They are:

●Being on time is polite, but it is not a strict rule in Brazil. Being late for up to 15 minutes probably will not make a Brazilian angry.

●When you go to a restaurant, be careful to greet the people who work at the place, and don't forget to greet the people who are already waiting for you at the table. It's not necessary to hug or kiss everybody if they are already seated.

●You can ask somebody about how the food is prepared and also about prices or tips if you are not sure about them.

●Before they start eating, Brazilians usually say “born appetite” to their friend.

●You should never talk to another person while you still have some food in your mouth.

●Making noise while eating is also considered really rude. Avoid doing it.

●Be careful not to put your elbows on the table while eating. It is not terrible, but it can be considered a little bit rude by some people.

●Don't worry about the time. Usually people in Brazil stay seated for a long time, especially when they have interesting things to talk about.

●It's not necessary to talk in a really low voice because people there usually talk in a little loud voice. But please, don't exaggerate.

●Finally, saying “thank you” and “bye” are always seen in Brazil.

It is often necessary to release a fish, that is, set it free after catching, because it is too small, or you just don't want to take it home to eat. In some cases, releasing fish is a good measure that will help keep fish variety and build their population size. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) encourages fishermen who practice catch-and-release fishing to use a few simple skills when doing so. The advice provided below will help make sure that the fish you release will survive to bite again another day.

—When catching a fish, play it quickly and keep the fish in the water as much as possible.

Don't' use a net in landing the fish and release it quickly to prevent it from dying.

—Hold the fish gently. Do not put your fingers in its eyes. Don't wipe the scales (鱼鳞) off the fish because it might cause it to develop a disease and reduce its chance of survival.

—Remove your hook (鱼钩) quickly. If the hook is too deep or hooked in the stomach, cut the line and leave the hook in. The hook left inside will cause no serious problem to the fish.

—Take good care of the fish by moving it gently in water. Release the fish when it begins to struggle and is able to swim.

—Do not hold fish in a bucket or some other containers and later decide to release it. If you are going to release a fish, do so right away.

With a little care and by following the suggestions given above, you can give the released fish a better chance of survival.

Tricks to become a patient person

Here's a riddle: What do traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start all have in common?{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. They're all situations where we could use a little extra patience.

In the digital age, we're used to having what we need immediately and right at our fingertips. However, research suggests that if we practiced patience, we'd be a whole lot better off. Here are several tricks.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Thankfulness has a lot of benefits. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. It can also help us practice more patience. "Showing thankfulness can foster self-control," said Ye Li, researcher at the University of California.

Make yourself wait

Instant gratification (满足) may seem like the most "feel-good" option at the time, but psychology research suggests waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. And the only way for us to get into the habit of waiting is to practice. Start with small tasks. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake. You'll soon find that the more patience you practice, the more you start to apply it to other, more annoying situations.

Accept the uncomfortable

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. When we experience something outside of our comfort zone, we get impatient about the circumstances. You should learn to say to yourself, "This is merely uncomfortable, not intolerable (无法忍受的)." You'll then gradually become more patient.

A. There is one answer

B. Keep a balanced state of mind

C. Practice showing or expressing gratitude

D. Attach importance to process and method

E. Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend

F So many of us believe being comfortable is the only state we will enjoy

G. Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and even more optimistic
