Bonjour! (That means hello in French.)

We hope you all had a great summer. Ours was a lot of fun. We have seen so many new things and met so many wonderful people. The French gave us a warm welcome and helped us get used to living here soon. We have so many things to share with all of you. We are going to send you more emails, but here are the best parts of our holiday in France so far.

We had a fantastic time seeing the Tour de France this summer. It is the most famous bicycle race in the world. The riders travel more than two thousand miles in about a month! We got a quick look at the riders as they sped past! After the race, our family rented bikes, and rode along part of the route that the cyclists used.

A few of you asked whether the French really eat snails(蜗牛). The answer is yes. We went out to dinner the other day, and our parents ordered some. We each tried one and it didn't taste too bad. The snails, called escargots, are served with lots of butter. They feel a little rubbery when you bite into them, but they don't really have much taste. Mum's favourite food here is the French pastries. Dad loves the red wine. Our favourite is the fresh bread from the shop down the street.

We went to visit the Eiffel Tower a few weeks ago. We went all the way to the top. It was a sunny day, so we could see for miles and miles into the distance. Dad doesn't like heights, so he stayed at the bottom of the tower and took pictures from the ground.

We miss all of you a lot. Write back to us and let us know what is new at home.

One day a young man went to the town and bought himself a new pair of pants. When he got home, he went to his room and put them on. He found they were about two inches(英寸) long. He went into the kitchen(厨房). His mother and his two sisters were doing some washing there. He said to them,“ The new pants are too long. They need cutting(剪) by two inches. Would one of you do this for me?” His mother and sisters were busy and nobody said anything.
But after his mother finished washing, she went to her son's room and cut the pants by two inches. She came back without saying anything to her daughters. After supper, the elder sister remembered her brother's pants. She went to his room and cut the pants by two inches without saying anything to anyone. The younger sister went to the cinema. But when she came back, she also remembered her brother's pants, so she went to his room and cut them by two inches, too.

   A Chinese couple forced their 4- year- old son to run naked (裸体的)during a snowstorm with the temperature dipping to -13℃ in New York, where they were enjoying a holiday.
   The boy's father calls himself "Eagle Dad". He says he follows the parenting style of eagles, which are known to push their babies off cliffs（悬崖）so that they learn to fly by themselves.
   Different people have different ideas about it. Some people think it is proper to do like "Eagle Dad". The 4- year- old boy, Duoduo, was weak since he was born, so his father tried to help him train to keep strong. But others disagree, they think we should concentrate more on the best ways to teach children in these fast changing times.
   Different families use different methods to teach children, but all of them should be allowed by the law. Parents should pay full attention to children's physical and metal conditions, and make sure the ways can help their children think and act positively.
   As long as parents know this, they can use different methods to educate children. Every child has different character. Some children grow up to be success under the guidance of (在......指引下)"eagle dads" or "tiger moms". Others are also successful growing up under more considerate elders.

Albert was an ordinary worker in an oil company in America. His workmates gave a nickname(绰号) "Four dollars a bucket(桶) of oil" below his name whenever and wherever he wrote down his name.

As time went by, people forgot his real name. Later, when Roller, the board chairman(董事长) of the oil company, heard of it. He was very surprised, so he invited Albert to come to his office. "Some people give you a nickname for 'Four dollars a bucket. Why aren't you angry?" asked Roller in surprise.

"Oh! Mr. Roller! I like this nickname very much, because 'Four dollars a bucket is our company's advertisement. If someone calls me 'Four dollars a

Five years later, Albert became the second board chairman.

Later Albert said in one of his reports, "We should treat everything actively because maybe our future success will begin from a small thing!"

Driving a car at high speed along a highway seems to be fun. You need only to follow the bright traffic signs beside the highways and it will take you to where you wish.

But to a London taxi driver, driving is not an easy job. A taxi driver has to have not only good driving skills but also a good knowledge of the city of a London, from the smallest lane(小巷) to the most popular bar around. He has to be at the service of all kinds of passengers at all times.

A certain London taxi driver told of his job as follows.

London taxi drivers not only 'take' but also 'give'. Every summer hundreds of children from London will go for a day at the sea— by taxi! Their rides are paid by the taxi drivers, and these fares(车费) all go to the 'London Taxi Fund for Underprivileged Children. At the sea, they are met by the mayor, and a lunch party is also held in honour of the taxi drivers and the children. After a happy day running around the sea beaches and visiting the market, the children go home again-- by taxi, and free of charge, of course!
