湖北省黄石市2019年中考英语试卷(音频暂未更新)
People in different countries speak different languages. But is there a lanuage that can be understood by everyone in the world ? Emojis might be the first truly universal (通用的) language.
Emojis are a kind of special language. Pictures are used to put meaning across, A group called the Unicode Consortium is in charge of choosing official (官方的) emojis. It has added new emojis every year since 2014. These new emojis do not come out of nowhere. They come from what people think about, like and care about.
Emojis can be used to represent (代表) different groups of people. In 2015, emoji faces with different skin tones (肤色) were added. In 2016, different jobs were added, such as doctor, police officer and painter along with female versions of these jobs, This year, emojis of disabled people were added, including emojis of blind people and people in wheel chairs.
But there is also more to emojis. They can also refer to pop culture and new cultural trends. New emojis in 2019 have included several animals, such as sloths (树懒) and flamingos (火烈鸟). These animals are not very common, but are known to many people. For example, sloths have become popular thanks to the 2016 film Zootopia (《疯狂动物城》). Many fashion designers have included flamingos in their designs in recent years. This animal makes people feel like they're on a tropical (热带) vacation.
It seems that emojis are a mirror of the world we live in. It will be interesting to see how they change and grow in the years to come.
What do you read when you are travelling by train or bus? What are other people reading? Perhaps a woman sitting near you is reading a love story. A man is reading a serious biography(自传) about a president. And there's a student reading an English textbook.
What do their choices(选择) say about them? Do you think you can know them by what they are reading? I have got to tell you that your feelings of them may be quite wrong. The woman reading the love story could be a lawyer. She just wants a light read to take her mind off work. The man reading the biography wants you to think that he is very clever. The student reading the textbook isn't a student at all. She's an English teacher.
Publishers(出版商) know that some people care what they read on trains or buses and so they put out different types of covers. For example, books about Harry Potter have a cartoon cover for young readers and then another more serious cover for grown—ups.
So next time you are on a train, look around and see what other people are reading, but don't jump to any conclusions(结论). You will be wrong maybe.
Here is a sentence that you could say, “Don't judge(判断) a book by its cover”.
Title:Never judge a book people choose to read by the cover. | |

A. They see the best in you, and that helps you see the best in yourself. B. That way you will be pleased with the progress that you are making. C. The key is to take control by making choices and developing habits that make you happier. D. You can control how happy you are, since giving always makes you feel happier. E. If you can't control tomorrow, don't worry about tomorrow. F. If you aim for perfection all the time, you will never be satisfied or happy. G. Your relationship with your parents doesn't have to be perfect before you can be happy. |
Do you want to be happier? Well, you can do something about it. Some psychologists(心理学家)believe that 10% of your happiness is due to life conditions and 40% is the result of your own choices. Your own choices include how you manage your time at school, your relationships, your friends, your activities and your health. So you have a lot of control over how happy you feel. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Here are some tips on how to do that.
Surround yourself with positive(积极的)people. Spend time with positive people and your ideas will become active. On the other hand, good friends will encourage, support, and lift you up when you're down. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} That's also true for the people that we work with.
Don't try to be perfect. Remember that nothing can ever be perfect. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Instead think about what you already have. Think about what you've already done. Think of where you are today as a step towards tomorrow. Don't try to be perfect, just try to do things well-with excellence.
Focus on now. Don't think about all the things that can go wrong, like failing at school or your friend leaving you. Thinking like this only results in worry and stress, which is a waste of time and energy.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Just worry about making today great, because the best way to be happy is just to enjoy each day.
Compare yourself to yourself, not to other people. There will always be someone smarter, or richer, or better looking or more successful than you. There will always be someone with a bigger house and a bigger boat than you. Someone will always have more. Rather, look at what you have got and who you are, accept and value that. Work toward being a better one than you were last month or last year. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} And you will feel a lot happier with, and about yourself.
