Animals are our friends. We can find different animals here and there. Some animals live in big forests(森林) and some animals live with man.

    Animals can help us a lot. Elephants can do some heavy work for us. And dogs can look after the home. The kids like dogs very much. Cats are women's favorite animals.

    We can eat their meat. We can make coats and shoes with their skins(皮). We can get milk from them. So man can't live without animals.

Vision—phones(可视电话)

    Many inventions are very useful in our daily life. They have greatly changed our life. For example, radios, telephones and televisions are widely used in the world. When you turn on the radio, you can listen. But when you use the telephone, you can not only listen to others but also chat with them. However, you can't see anything at all. The television is much better than both of them. People can watch TV and listen to it, but they can't take part in what they see.

    Today, some people are using a type of telephone called the vision phone. With it two people can see each other when they are talking

    Vision-phones can be of great use when you have something to show the person when you are calling him or her. It may also have other uses in the future. Some day you may be able to call up a library and ask to read a book over your vision-phone. You may be able to do some shopping through it too. Perhaps in the future, the vision-phone will come into wide use in our everyday life.

After a long day's study at school, you are very tired. So after school you go home to relax. When you get home, a robot welcomes you. He's happy to see you and helps you take your school things to your room. He listens to you talk about your school life and tells you a new joke. And he tells you to call your cousin and to say happy birthday. And then he helps you with your homework. 

This is your future, and the robot's name is NAO. NAO has a small body, big eyes and a large head. He can walk and dance. He listens and talks, and he even learns and thinks for himself. His creators predict that the robot will be in people's homes before 2040. This $16, 000 robot knows who you are. 

NAO can even express emotions(表达情感). He is a self-guided robot. A self-guided robot can sense(感觉), think and act. Other robots might do two out of the three. For example, a robot might sense things using cameras and think using computers, but with no arms, he can't act. Another robot can move and sense things, but he can't think for himself. These aren't self-guided robots. But NAO can do them all. 

In a field in England, three little robots have been given a great job: to find and kill grass before planting seeds (种子) in the soil.

The robots are named Tom, Dick and Harry. Tom is the first of the three clever robots to start working. He watches the crops (庄稼) carefully and collects the information about each plant. He can create a short introduction to each plant and even make decisions on what chemicals are needed for your crops.

Dick does the dirty work. He can go to each plant that is doing bad to the crops and take it out. Plants that are good for the crops are left. He can force small drops of chemicals out of a bottle or something to cover plants in order to keep them healthy.

Harry is a planter. He digs holes into the field and puts seeds into the ground, and records where he puts them. If a seed doesn't grow, he can easily travel there and plants a new seed.

The smart robots are made by Small Robot. The British company says farmers could reduce costs by 40% and chemical usage by up to 95%. The little robots allow farmers to free their soils from chemicals. Using less chemicals is going to save much money and is good for the environment. As well as reducing the use of chemicals, robots will bring us better soil quality and more plants and animals.

"We have to change farming now, or else there won't be anything to farm," says Small Robot.

B. A special camera — This is a neck-worn camera. It frees your hands and is also useful when shooting short videos.

C. Water Producer — Kara Pure can make 10 liters of fresh water out of the air each day. This means people can have water without depending on groundwater.

D. Smart Bed — This bed can change its temperature so sleepers will not feel too cold or hot and it can help a person to sleep.

E. Party glasses — With a full charge, the party glasses can shine for 12 hours. If you wear them, you will become the coolest child at the party.

F. Hand washer — Put your hands into it and the soap bubble will appear. Meanwhile, it has a timer and can tell you how long you wash your hands.
