根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。(选项中有一项为多余选项。)

I wish there would be a way to describe China in a simple word but that's impossible.

In my English classes when the students were asked what they would do if they only had a few hours to live, most students told me they would spend their last few hours with their families and parents.

I teach in Xiangyang, a beautiful city which the Hanjiang River goes across it and I live here better. The foods are cheaper than those in the US, so are clothing and articles(物品) of everyday us. People pay less for the public transportation, too.

However, it is reported that still there are a few children who can't afford the expenses(费用) of schooling. But the government organized Project Hope many years ago. It creates conditions for the poor children to go back to school.

I seldom saw the things mentioned of the creative(有创造力的) changes China has made. But the economic miracles(经济奇迹) have the big problems.

To be honest, if I compare China with the US, my answer has always been the same: "We are not worse or better than each other; we are only different."

A. It's a tradition to value education in China.

B. I realize that family is everything in China.

C. I am often asked which country I consider better.

D. You'll not know China unless you go closer to it.

E. I was used to reading the news of China in the US.

F. The cost of living here isn't as high as that in the US.

举一反三

How do you talk with people when meeting them if you want to leave a good impression? Here a some tips for you/

Tip 1

You have to show up, which can be a challenge for many of us. You can show up as an observer(旁观者)of other interesting people and let that be a learning experience for you. Before you start talking, it's important to just listen, even if you think you are a wise storyteller. If you are close to a group of people who are discussing a topic, watch their body language and see if they will let you join in their conversation.

Tip 2

You'd better go in the conversation with a couple of topics to keep it going, or questions to ask if there is a short stop. Simple things like "How do you know the host?”and "How did you get here?” are always good conversation starters to a certain extent(在一定程度上).

Tip 3

Don't fear silences. Awkward(令人尴尬的)silences are common part of talking with people, just rush to fill them. If you don't want to go on with the conversation, just say you are going to get another drink or something to eat, and find another group to talk with.

Tip 4

Relax. If you cannot keep a conversation going, or you don't know what you should say next, give yourself a little time to clear your head. Relax, and then turn back into the discussion.

We often see top students around us and everyone knows about them. Let us take Jenny as an example. She is the monitor of our class. She spends a lot of time working for our class. But she always gets good grades in all subjects. How do students like Jenny do that? When I asked her, she said, "Hard work is not the whole story. It's not how long you sit at the desk with your books open. It's what you do as you are sitting." In fact, we can see many top students spend fewer hours on their studies than their classmates. Jenny gave me some valuable suggestions.

If your math teacher gives you five problems, you should do six. If your Chinese teacher gives eight pages of reading, you should read nine. The more you practice, the more you learn.

Studying is a matter of your personal interest, so choose the way you are most comfortable with. Some people like working at night when the house is quiet, while others like doing their work early in the morning. However, others like studying as soon asthey arrive home from school while the work is fresh in their minds. No matter which way suits you, try to do your best.

Studying is your business and the business comes before entertainment(娱乐). When you are studying, phone calls should go unanswered, TV shows unwatched, snacks given up. Studying is the only thing in your mind. Nothing can pull your attention away from what you are studying.

Studying is like eating. You should eat a little at a time. You can plan what to do today, but don't do too much. When you can't finish the work you planned to do, you will feel stressed and may lose confidence. On the other hand, you will not study well without a good plan. It all de pends on how you manage your time.

The students who hand in a clearly written paper are already half way to get an A.. Tidy papers are likely to get higher marks than messy ones. When you write clearly and do your work carefully, the thoughts in your mind are clear. You can avoid making more mistakes.
