湖北省襄阳市2019年中考英语试卷
I wish there would be a way to describe China in a simple word but that's impossible.
In my English classes when the students were asked what they would do if they only had a few hours to live, most students told me they would spend their last few hours with their families and parents.
I teach in Xiangyang, a beautiful city which the Hanjiang River goes across it and I live here better. The foods are cheaper than those in the US, so are clothing and articles(物品) of everyday us. People pay less for the public transportation, too.
However, it is reported that still there are a few children who can't afford the expenses(费用) of schooling. But the government organized Project Hope many years ago. It creates conditions for the poor children to go back to school.
I seldom saw the things mentioned of the creative(有创造力的) changes China has made. But the economic miracles(经济奇迹) have the big problems.
To be honest, if I compare China with the US, my answer has always been the same: "We are not worse or better than each other; we are only different."
A. It's a tradition to value education in China. B. I realize that family is everything in China. C. I am often asked which country I consider better. D. You'll not know China unless you go closer to it. E. I was used to reading the news of China in the US. F. The cost of living here isn't as high as that in the US. |
Everyone wants to relax (放松) after working or studying for a long time. I have many ways to relax. Let me tell you some of my favorites.
I am a big sports fan (迷). So I often watch or play many kinds of sports. But my favorite is football. I find it really cool.
I usually listen to music in my free time. My favorite is some beautiful piano music. Some people can't do things well when listening to music, but for me, it is not the case, I think I can study better with my favorite light music.
I also like visiting places of interest in China and in other countries, and enjoying nice food there. It helps me to know more about various people and places.

The kings of Egypt (the pharaohs) had enough power to master their country. The people thought that the pharaoh was a god. He owned everything. Everyone had to do what he told them to do. The pharaohs built huge tombs. When a pharaoh died, he was buried in the tomb. The tombs were often in the shape of pyramids. Have you ever counted the number of digits (数字) in your mobile phone number? Your number has 11 digits. You may sometimes find it hard to remember your number. That's because China has the longest mobile phone numbers in the world. Why is that?
The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each part has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service company it is. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications Corporation and 188 is for China Unicom. The fourth to the seventh digits tell you where the number is registered (注册). And the last four digits are random (随机的).
The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there were not enough numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999. Eleven digits can be used to make tens of billions of mobile phone numbers. That's enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China.
And mobile phone numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service company will reuse a canceled number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven't contacted for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed.
Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada's mobile phone numbers are perhaps the shortest in the world: they use seven digits.
Canadian: In my country, the mobile phone numbers use seven digits. Why does this mobile phone have 11 digits—13958583739?
Salesman: We have the largest population. Besides China, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} also use 11-digit numbers.
Canadian: What do the numbers mean?
Salesman: The number {#blank#}2{#/blank#} tells you which mobile phone service company it is.
The {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to the seventh numbers tell you the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} of its registration. The number 3739 is random.
Canadian: Can you {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the phone numbers?
Salesman: Yes, after three to six months.
