My Stay in New York

    After graduation from university, I had been unable to secure a permanent job in my small town. So I decided to leave home for New York,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I might have a better chance to find a good job. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (earn) some money to pay the daily expenses, I started work in a local café as a waiter. I believe that30．{#blank#}3{#/blank#} I was offered a good position, I would resign at once.

    Over time, the high cost of living became a little burden on my already  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (exhaust) shoulder. On the other hand, my search for a respectable job had not met with much success. As I had studied literature at university, I found it quite difficult to secure a suitable job in big companies. Mother had just said that {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I want to have a better career advancement, I had to find work in the city. Perhaps {#blank#}6{#/blank#}my mother had told me was deeply rooted in my mind. I just did as she had expected.

    Soon I had lived in the city for over six months but I still did not like it. Apparently, I had difficulty{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (adapt) myself to life in the city, let alone finding a job to my delight. After nine months of frustration, I eventually decided to go back to my small town. Not until I returned {#blank#}8{#/blank#}I realize that a quiet town life was the best for me.

Just as I began a new job in New York, I had another important job: father. I was a businessman. At the office I had three new {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(project) and at home I had a young son who was growing fast and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (need)me. I was puzzled and didn't know how to deal with the relationship{#blank#}3{#/blank#}job and family until one day, during my business trip in Chicago, I came across an old family friend Dan, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}was once a patient of my father. He told me something about my father. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} was my father that helped him go through the cancer. When Dan knew he got cancer, he was very upset and wanted{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (give) up, but my father, his doctor, encouraged him to go on{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (fight) against the cancer. My father said to him, "You have {#blank#}8{#/blank#} wonderful life and three fine children. Take some time with them. It is family that we live for—-not just ourselves. Think of that {#blank#}9{#/blank#} you will know life's worth the fight." His words touched me, and I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sudden) realized that family is the most important in the world. I should spend more time staying with them.

A Brief Introduction to Gandhi

Mohandas Gandhi (1869—-1948), an Indian national hero, was honored {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the father of the Indian nation. He has been respected and beloved by the Indians.

    He was born in India in 1869. Following the local custom, he got {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(marry) at the age of 13. In 1888 he sailed to England, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} he studied law for three years and became a lawyer. On his return to India, he was sent to South Africa to work on a law case.

    In South Africa he {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(surprise)to find that the problem of racial discrimination (种族歧视)was serious. There he formed an organization and started a magazine to fight {#blank#}5{#/blank#} equal rights.

    Gandhi returned to India in 1915,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} India was controlled by the British. He led the Indians to fight for an end to the British rule and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(depend)for his country. In the political movement many Indians including Gandhi were put in prison. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, the struggles never stopped. The British government had to give {#blank#}9{#/blank#}and India won its independence in 1947. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(fortunate)Gandhi was shot by an Indian who opposed his views and died on January 30th, 1948.

    China successfully landed the Chang'e 4 lunar probe(月球探测器)on the far side of the moon on January 3,2019, becoming the only country in history{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(touch) the lunar surface unseen by those on Earth. The far side of the moon has been seen and mapped{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(previous) by astronauts of the Apollo missions. But it is the first time that the moon's far side{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(set) foot on by any spacecraft, and the successful landing of Chang'e 4 is seen as a major milestone in space {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(explore).

    The Chang'e 4 spacecraft consists{#blank#}5{#/blank#}two parts:a lander and a rover(巡视器). Representing China's{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(new) step in the lunar probe project of all time, it landed at 10:26 am Beijing time. Then it sent back a photo of the landing place.{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(shoot) through cameras on the probe's lander, the photo marks the world's first image taken on the surface of the far side of the moon. One of the photos published by the China National Space Administration shows the place{#blank#}8{#/blank#}Chang'e 4's rover-named Yutu 2~will be heading hours later for{#blank#}9{#/blank#}purpose of conducting further research. The name Chang'e has its roots in the Chinese goddess of the moon. In the ancient tale, Chang'e{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(fly) to the heavens and landed on the moon as her final resting place.
