Why men wolf down their meals {#blank#}1{#/blank#} women take their time? Many a woman has watched in disbelief as their partners eat their food minutes after sitting down to dinner. Now Korean researchers have discovered why: men and women {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (actual) chew differently. Women chew each individual mouthful more times — taking longer to finish {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (eat) their meal.

    The researchers hired 24 males and 24 females in South Korea. They recorded the size of people's bites, total chewing time per mouthful of food, total number of chews and how long {#blank#}4{#/blank#}   took the person to eat the entire meal. Men typically take {#blank#}5{#/blank#}   (large) bites with more “chewing power”, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} means they consume their meal more quickly than women.

    Though women were watched {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (have) the same chewing pace as men, they chewed each mouthful more times, slowing down the total time it took them to eat their meal.

    The study {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (publish) in the January issue of the Physiology and Behaviour Journal. But it flies in the face of an earlier result studied {#blank#}9{#/blank#} researchers at Nippon Dental University in Tokyo, Japan, which found no {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (different) in how the sexes chewed gum.

    As is known to us, the year 2016 has one extra day in it — February 29th. This is because it's {#blank#}1{#/blank#} we call “a leap year”. Every four years, the year has 366 days in {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  instead of 365.

    It is called a leap year because hundreds of years ago in England, the extra day wasn't{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (legal) recognized. There is a well-known tradition in the UK{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (associate) with February 29th, introduced many centuries ago. Women are allowed to break with tradition and propose(求婚) to their boyfriends on this day. This all started back in the{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (five) century, when a famous Irish saint made a{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (complain) that women had to wait too long for men to propose. According to the legend, Saint Patrick said any female dreaming of a proposal could ask her boyfriend to marry her on this additional day in February. This so-called tradition{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (write) in law in the thirteenth century. Scotland passed a law allowing women to propose to men in a leap year. It was said that if the men refused, they had to pay a fine!

    Now in 2016, there are calls{#blank#}8{#/blank#} February 29th to become a public holiday. Some people believe that it should be an{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (office) day off, because no one gets{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (many) payments for working an extra day in a leap year. For the moment though, the British still have to go to work on this day.

    For example, one evening when it was so warm, I stayed awake on {#blank#}1{#/blank#} until half past eleven in order to have {#blank#}2{#/blank#} good look at the moon by myself. But {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the moon gave far too much light,I didn't dare open a window. Another time five months ago, I happened {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (be) upstairs {#blank#}5{#/blank#} dusk {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the window was open. I didn't go {#blank#}7{#/blank#} until the window had to be shut.The dark, rainy evening, the wind, the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (thunder) clouds held me {#blank#}9{#/blank#} in their power.It was the first time in a year and a half that I{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (see) the night face to face.

    We use flowers as messengers, to say something we might have trouble saying {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (direct) by ourselves. Over time flowers have come to symbolize the most powerful human {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (experience): beauty, love, hope, and rebirth. Sweet flowers alone can say what one fears expressing.     The orchid（兰花）is well known for its delicate smell. Beautiful articles and poems {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (call) “lanzhang” by Chinese people in ancient times.

    Roses, of course, have the most colorful meaning among all the flowers. Red roses, to this day, mean “I love you.” A red rose, rather than yellow roses, acts as the traditional romantic gift {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (give) to your love on Valentine's Day. Sending yellow roses can be risky, as they represent either friendship or envy.

Trees, plants and flowers are all around us and we enjoy their beauty every day. However, we are so used to them {#blank#}1{#/blank#} we may even take them for granted without {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(realize) how much inspiration they have given us. In fact, nature has inspired many of the most {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(fascinate) designs around us, including those in architecture. Nature {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (present) in various architectural designs.

Today, architects continue to explore ways {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (capture) the beauty of natural forms, to mimic the way nature works or even to make natural organisms part of a building.
