    Plan a study timetable

    Make sure you will cover your material in time with a realistic study timetable. . With a plan in place, you'll be less likely to put off your work as knowing how you will use your time will also mean you make best use of it.

    Give yourself the best environment by choosing somewhere with enough light, a comfortable chair, and little to no distractions. Sit down with all that you need — and only the things you'll need — like any books, notes or pens, as well as some water and healthy snacks on hand. Also ask what you don't need. A rule of thumb is if it doesn't help you study, it shouldn't be on your desk. It may look so simple but is really effective to help you focus on your study.

    Keep healthy: sleep, eat and move

    When exams come around somehow there never seems enough time for the basic things like sleep and exercise. Taking care of your health and wellbeing will really help you study at your best by improving your memory, mood and energy levels, and keeping those stress levels down. . Eating three meals and sticking to healthy snacks throughout the day will give you the energy you need to focus. A good aim is 20-30 minutes of exercise but even a walk nearby during study breaks will do you good!

    It's well-known by all the people to greet friends with a smile and a wave.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} However, what happens if your face and body send mixed messages? Would someone tend to believe the look on your face or the way you behave?

    Recently, scientists have dealt with these questions. They found that when a person is staring at your face, he might not believe what he sees if your body doesn't match the feeling that your face shows.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Previous study had showed that the tone of a person's voice can be more important than the words spoken. For example, most people are more likely not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, “I'm so excited.”

    When talking about emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies that showed anger or fear.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips. A frightened face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square, as if ready to fight back.

These results told the researchers that mixed messages can confuse people. Even when people pay attention to the face, body language surely influences the emotion they read.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}And if you want to be understood it helps to avoid sending mixed messages.

A. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists.

B. So, your body language is important for telling people your feelings.

C. Scientists feel new to study the mixed message that puzzles people.

D. An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle, as if ready to fight.

E. Body language can sometimes be misunderstood in different culture backgrounds.

F. They also showed pictures where angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies.

G. When doing this, your face and body work together to show your friends that you are happy to see them.

    Life is difficult to everybody, so you need to organize your life well. Here are some suggestions which might give you some help to manage your life well.

    Write everything down and do not rely on your memory.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} If you want to remember things, put them in writing, or in a digital notebook. Keeping your to-do lists and other information written somewhere allows you to look back at them anytime, especially when you have hit your head and forgotten some of them.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Try this experiment before buying one thing, throw out something old or something you do not use. Or, if you are a really pack rat(不想扔任何东西的人), just throw out one old thing a day until you can not find any more items to throw.

    Recycle and donate. Is your closet full of unopened bags and clothes that still have their tags(标签) on? Is your bookshelf full of unread books? Chances are that if you have not read, worn, or used whatever they are, they you are probably not going to use them at all.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Create daily, weekly and monthly timetables for cleaning. Organize your cleaning timetable.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Distribute tasks properly, so for example, dish washing could be done daily while vacuuming(吸尘) could be done weekly and cleaning the windows done monthly. Whichever of these tasks you decide to do, remember that you can not completely organize your life in one go(一口气).

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Just decide to get organized now, and then take baby steps. Soon enough, you will be making a habit out of it all.

A. Practice putting things away immediately

B. Throw one thing before buying something

C. It is a long and never-ending process, so be patient

D. Give them to a charity or sell on the Internet

How to Retain More of Every Book You Read

    In recent years, I have focused on building good reading habits and learned how to read more. For most people, the final goal of reading a nonfiction book is to actually improve their life by learning a new skill, understanding an important problem, or looking at the world in a new way{#blank#}1{#/blank#} With that in mind, I'd like to share three reading comprehension skills that I use to make my reading more productive.

    Make all of your notes searchable. Having searchable book notes is important for returning to ideas easily{#blank#}2{#/blank#} An idea is only useful if you can find it when you need it. There is no need to leave the task of reading comprehension merely up to your memory.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} When you go to the library, all of the books will be divided into different categories. In the real world, of course, knowledge is not separated into neatly defined boxes{#blank#}4{#/blank#}For that reason, I try to consider how the book Fm reading is connected with all of the ideas that are already inside my head. Whenever possible, I try to combine the lessons Fm learning with previous ideas.

    Summarize the book in one paragraph{#blank#}5{#/blank#}It forces me to review my notes and consider what is really important about the book. In many cases, I find that I can usually get just as much useful information from reading my one-paragraph summary and reviewing my notes as I would if I read the entire book again.

A. Combine thoughts as you read.

B. All knowledge is interconnected.

C. Describe the book to your friends.

D. Read widely if you want to practice the skills.

E. It increases the chances that you will apply what you read in real life.

F. Once I finish a book, I challenge myself to conclude the text in just three sentences.

G. It's important to read books, but it is just as important to remember what you read and use it.

My first career had been related to audiology (听力学)—one that allowed me to work part time while tending my growing family. But when my children grew up and left home, I found myself longing to be outside, not in a soundproof room in the hospital.

    So I began attending classes at the local university, hoping that might lead me to a new career. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} "What gave you pleasure as a child?" the counselor (顾问) asked. I thought for a while before responding, "Playing outside in the woods." Our discussion eventually led to a second master's degree, this one in zoology, and the job as a naturalist at a state park. I was 44 years old. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    But as I climbed the career ladder, my time in the field disappeared. I was chained to a computer screen. In the back of my mind, the career counselor's question sounded again. "{#blank#}3{#/blank#}"

    Shortly thereafter, an opportunity presented itself: a 4-month field research project at a university in the Netherlands. I found that field research allowed me to play in the woods again, but with a new purpose.

    At the end of the project, I was invited to participate in the "sandwich" Ph.D. program, in which students do research in their home country while receiving support and instruction in the Netherlands. I was 60 years old. I didn't think that earning a Ph. D. would further my career. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Still, my colleagues raised their eyebrows. "{#blank#}5{#/blank#}" they asked, "It is all about the journey," I responded.

A. What gave you pleasure as a child?

B. I also went to see a career counselor.

C. What do you intend to do with a Ph.D.?

D. But I wanted to follow my new passion.

E. But when it was no longer right, I changed direction.

F. Can you believe you're actually getting paid to have this much fun?

G. And I was delighted to once again experience the joy of being outdoors.
