    Jack Brown, an office worker, lives in Washington. He inherited (继承) a million dollars when he was 23, but he wasn't happy at all. When his college friends were looking for their jobs, he didn't have to. Jack decided to keep living a simple life like everyone else. He gave ﹩10，000 of his money to a charity to help poor children live a happy life. Today he is 36. He still wears cheap shoes and clothes and drives a small car only, but he is very happy.
    Up to now Jack has helped some children from poor countries all over the world, by sending them each ﹩200 a month. The money was used for the children's study, food, medicine and clothing. Jack receives a report each year on the children's progress. They can write to each other, but usually the children do not speak English.
    When Jack first heard about these children, he wanted to help them. "It was nothing special,"he said. "Until I went to these countries and met the children I was helping, I didn't know anything about their life.”Once Jack went to meet a little girl in Africa. He said that the meeting was very exciting. “When I met her, I felt very, very happy, "he said. " And I saw that the money was used for a good cause. It brought me happiness. I want to do everything I can to go on helping those children.”

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the nine o'clock Mystery Hour. Today we'll show you two British stories. We hope you'll enjoy them.
About 900 years ago two green children arrived in a small village in south England. Their eyes and skin were green and they spoke a strange language. They were very tired and weak, so the people of the village looked after them. The boy died a year later, but the girl grew strong and lived the rest of her life there. And her skin colour turned back to normal day by day. Scientists say that sometimes of people don't have enough food to eat for a long time, their skin goes very pale and can even turn green.
Loch Ness is the largest lake in Scotland. It's a very deep and cold lake. For hundreds of years, people have talked about a monster(怪物) called Nessie which lives in the lake. About seventy years ago, two people saw something moving in the lake. They said that the animal was playing and rolling around in the water. Since then many people say they have seen the monster. Their descriptions are always the same. It looks like a dinosaur, with a very long neck and a small head. It has a big bump(包，肿块)on its back. People have tried to photograph the animal, but the pictures have not been very clear. Scientists don't know whether there is a monster or not. Some say it may be a whale or a very large fish. Some think it's a snake. Others say there's nothing at all— nothing but people's imagination. Maybe we'll never know what's in Loch Ness.

A pretty, well-dressed young lady stopped a taxi in a big square, and said to the driver, “Can you see that young man at the other side of the square?”
“Yes,” said the taxi-driver. The young man was standing outside a restaurant and looking impatiently at his watch every few seconds.
“Take me over there.” said the young lady.
There were a lot of cars and buses and trucks in the square, so the taxi- driver asked, “Are you afraid to cross the street.”
‘Oh, no !” said the young lady. “But I said that I would meet that young man for dinner at one o'c1ock, and it is now a quarter to two. If I arrive in a taxi, it will at least seem as if I have tried not to be too late.”

      One day, a farmer was walking along a road with his son Thomas. The father said, “Look! There's a horseshoe. Pick it up and put it in your bag.” Thomas said, “It isn't worth the trouble.” His father said nothing but picked it up himself. When they got to a nearby town, they had a rest. There the farmer sold the horseshoe and with the pennies he bought some grapes.
       It was very hot, and there wasn't a house or a tree where they could have a rest. Thomas felt too thirsty to walk on. At this time, his father dropped a grape on the ground and Thomas picked it up quickly and ate it. After a while, his father dropped another grape and once again, his son picked it up and put it in his mouth.
       And so they went on. The old farmer dropped the grapes and the son picked them up. When Thomas had eaten up all the grapes, his father said to him, “My dear son, if you had bent down early to pick up that horseshoe, it would not have been necessary for you to bend so many times for the grapes, always remember the lesson: A person who does not worry about the little things will find that he can not do the great things.”

I have a lot of friends. My best friend is Mai. She is 16 years old. She is 2 years older than me. We live in the same town and we began to know each other when we were very young. Now we are classmates. Mai is tall and thin, with long black hair. She has an oval face (椭圆的脸) with big eyes, a high nose and a small mouth. Mai is helpful (乐于助人的). When her friends have difficulties, she always tries her best to help them. Mai is one of the best students in our class. I like studying with her. She always helps me with my studies. Although we have the same hobbies and interests, we also have some differences. I am sociable and enjoy telling jokes. Mai, however, is serious and quiet. We believe in each other, so we are good friends. I hope we can keep our friendship forever (永远).

Blue Ocean Aquarium is a great place for families to take a holiday. Children love to see the sea animals and watch movies about sharks in it.

Last Saturday morning, Mr. Black took his wife and two little sons to the aquarium. At the ticket office, he asked, "How much shall I pay to get in?" The woman at the ticket office answered, "The price is 20 dollars for each adult(成年人) or any kid older than five. We let kids in free(免费) if they are five or younger. How old are your kids?" Mr. Black said, "The older one is six and the younger one is three. I think I must buy three tickets." The woman was surprised. She said, "Sir, don't you want to save 20 dollars? If you tell me your older son is five, I won't know the difference." Mr. Black said with a smile, "Yes, that sounds right, but my kids will know the difference."

From Mr. Black's story, we know honesty is very important in the modern society. We should tell the truth to the people around us, especially to the kids.
