The power of nature

    There are some things in nature that we cannot stop from happening. We cannot stop the power of nature. A flood comes when there is too much water on the land. Sometimes， it is after a big storm when too much rain falls on the land. Sometimes it is after a big storm at sea， when too much sea water comes onto the land. The fast flood water can hurt us and can hurt our homes. We cannot stop a flood from coming， but we can try to stop the water from coming into our homes. We can try to stop the water by making a wall. We can use sandbags to make the wall.

    An earthquake comes when the land moves. The land goes up and down and in different directions. Then land can crack（断裂）. An earthquake can hurt us. We can get hurt by things that fall down in an earthquake. Falling things can start fires. We cannot stop an earthquake from coming， but we can try to make our homes strong so that they will not fall down in an earthquake.

    A tornado（龙卷风）is fast air that goes around and around over the land. A tornado can pick up anything. It can break anything that is in the way. A hurricane（飓风）is a big storm with fast winds and strong rain. It begins at the sea and can come onto the land. Its fast winds can hurt us and our homes. We cannot stop a tornado or a hurricane from coming， but we can get out of its way. We cannot stop the power of nature， but we can go to places where we can be safe.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#}We must take care of it. We should keep the land, air and water clean. Pollution(污染) is a “dirty” word.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Pollution comes in many forms. We can see it, smell it and drink it. Pollution harms our health and even our life.

    People have been polluting the Earth, such as made a fire, washed his clothes in the rivers and threw his rubbish on the ground. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious, because there were not so many people.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}But now the land was used up or the river was dirty in a place, man moved to another place. So now the whole world is slowly polluted.

    When talking about pollution, we once only meant the air pollution. Air pollution is the most dangerous now.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}We are glad that the public are paying more attention to the dangers of pollution.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    On Sept, 19,2014 Alibaba went public on the New York Stock Exchange (纽约证券交易所), raising $25 billion through an IPO (公司股票的首次公开发行), the biggest in the US history. It shows that Ma Yun has done his business successfully. The short Chinese man seems to be the tallest in the world right now. Ma, who was an English teacher, has become one of the richest men on the Chinese mainland.

    Born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Ma grew up as a happy kid. At the age of 12, he wanted to learn English. Every morning, he woke up at 5 a. m., cycling 40 minutes to a hotel near the West Lake where he could chat with foreign tourists.

    On a trip to the US in 1995, Ma was shown the Internet for the first time. Seeing the chance, Ma returned to China and set up a website called China Pages without even knowing much about computers.

    Four years later, 18 people including Ma, his wife and his friends founded Alibaba in Hangzhou. People called him "Crazy Jack Ma". But 15 years later, Alibaba has developed into the world's largest e-commerce (电子商务) company.

    No one thinks he's mad now. Ma's favorite line has been printed on Alibaba's souvenir T-shirts. It reads, "Everybody should have a dream. What if that dream comes true?"

    Beethoven had an ugly face , and he had a very bad temper (脾气), but people like to ask him to their homes. When he lost his temper, they forgave (原谅) him. He was often poor and ill during his life. After one illness, he suddenly found himself deaf. At that time he was just 31. What a blow(打击) it was on him! But this didn't stop Beethoven from walking on in his life. He went on writing much music. He wrote long pieces and short pieces, happy ones and sad ones all his life. During his life, he composed (作曲) about 300 pieces. To people's surprise, he wrote some of his best and most beautiful pieces after he became deaf. Many of them are known and loved all over the world.
