Mrs. Brown, who lived alone in the Bridge Block, was asking for help because of his missing cat. "My baby has been missing for over a month now, and I want him back so badly," said Mrs. Brown. She said that Clyde, her 12-year-old cat, didn't come home for dinner more than a month ago. Although he was old and weak, Mrs. Brown loved him a lot. The next morning, he didn't appear for breakfast either. After Clyde missed an extra-special lunch, she called the police.

When the policeman asked her to describe Clyde, she told him that Clyde had beautiful green eyes, had all his teeth but was missing half of his left ear, and was twelve years old and totally white. She then told the officer that Clyde was about a foot high.

"Is Clyde your child or your pet?" the officer doubtfully asked. "Well, he's my cat, of course,"Mrs. Brown replied. "Lady, you're supposed to report missing PERSONS, not missing CATS," said the irritated policeman. "Well, who can I report this to?" she asked. "You can't. You have to ask around your neighborhood or put up flyer (传单)replied the officer.

Mrs. Brown figured that a notice board would work a lot better than a piece of paper on a telephone pole. There was an empty billboard at the end of her street just off the highway. Cars only passed by smoothly between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. The rest of the day, the highway was so full of drivers that no one moves. She took most of the money out of her savings account and rented the notice board with $3,000 for a month.

The month has passed, but Clyde has not appeared. Because she has almost no money in savings, Mrs. Brown called the local newspaper to see if anyone could help her rent the notice board for just one more month. She is waiting but, so far, no one has stepped forward.

Is getting a black belt(腰带) on your life's to-do list? Then this elderly woman in San Francisco just might be your hero.
Just two years before her 100th birthday, Sensei Keiko Fukuda has become the first woman to achieve a tenth-degree black belt — the highest rank in Judo (柔道). Fukuda is now one of only four living people who have earned the tenth-degree black belt. Throughout history, only 16 people have ever achieved this honor.
Fukuda began practicing Judo in 1935 and is the only surviving student of its founder, Kano Jiguro.
At her teacher's requirement, she learned English to help spread Judo internationally.
During a time when getting married, building a family and becoming a housewife were the norms(行为标准),Fukuda broke from tradition, continuing Judo instead of getting married.
“All I did was Judo ... This was my marriage,” Fukuda replied tearfully to the San Francisco Chronicle. “This is when my destiny (命运) was set. I just imagined how long the road would be.”
She described the Jiguro's school as “old-fashioned and sexist(性别歧视的) about belts and ranks”. In fact, an edict(法令) that prevented women from achieving any higher than a fifth-degree black belt kept Fukuda at that level for 30 years. She finally got the sixth degree in 1972 when a women's division(分部)was created.
Fukuda thinks Judo and her life to be “gentle, kind and beautiful, yet firm and strong, both mentally and physically”. Fukuda says this kind of beauty is not external(外在的). She explained. “I believe this inner beauty is true beauty… All my life this has been my dream.”
Her dream was turned into reality, and the 98-year-old Sensei Keiko Fukuda continues to teach Judo three times a week at a women's Judo training center.

    H. G. Wells lived from 1866 to 1946. He wrote many famous stories. He was best at writing stories about the future. One story is called The Time Machine. Here is the story.

More than 100 years ago, there was an English scientist and inventor living in London. One day, four friends went to his house for dinner. The inventor was not there. Feeling hungry, they started dinner without him. Then they heard a sound. A few moments later, the inventor came in, looking dirty.

He told his friends that he built a time machine. He could travel into the future.

The inventor went thousands of years in the future. He met people called the Eloi. They were smaller than him. They had no machines. Growing fruit and vegetables was all that they did. They had no hobbies. Only one girl, Weena, spoke to him.

Four days later, he met other people called Morlocks. They lived underground. They caught Eloi people and ate them! The inventor wanted to fight against the Morlocks. The Eloi didn't want to help him, not even the strong men. He tried to fight against the Morlocks. At last, Weena went underground with him. Unfortunately, Weena died.

After that, he got in his time machine. He came back to his time. Seeing the future made him sad. The people in the future were worse. They were not clever.

His friends didn't think it was a real story. But they never saw him again. Maybe he went to save the future.
