Ben was hoping for a video game for his birthday. There was also a board game he wanted. Finally, he wanted some comics.
He got the board game and some comics, but what was in the last package? It was from his sister, Karen. He slowly unwrapped the package. It didn't feel like a video game.
It was a purple sweater. Purple was his least favourite colour. He smiled and thanked Karen nicely, but he didn't want 'to wear that sweater. He couldn't wear purple!
He quickly put the sweater away in his room. Then he ran off to play his new board game with his family.
One day a few weeks later, Ben's mother asked him about the sweater. "Why don't you wear your purple sweater today?" she asked him. "Your sister made it just for you!"
"I'm not cold," Ben said without thinking. That day he was cold all day.
Then one day they were going out to dinner as a family. His mother asked him to wear the sweater again. "I don't want to wear it because I hate it," he quickly replied.
"Ben," said his mother," I know it's not the nicest sweater in the world, but think about how important Karen is to you. You know she will be proud if you wear it just this once."
Ben walked slowly to his room. He knew she was right. He wore the sweater to dinner.
His sister smiled all night.
Recently, the relationship between the two countries got worse because of the Diaoyu Islands.
The Japanese government signed a contract(合同) on Sep 11 with the Kurihara family. It was to pay the so-called “private(私人的) owner” 2.05 billion yen (166 million yuan) to “buy” part of China's Diaoyu Islands.
Anti-Japan(反日) feeling grew strongly among Chinese people. Many people walked into the streets and shouted out “Diaoyu Islands are China's.” Some have decided not to buy Japanese products any more. “I am boycotting(抵制) Japanese goods as a show of support. I'll work hard to make the country much stronger,” Liu Xiushan, 33, a lawyer in Beijing said to China Daily.
However, some didn't show their anger in the right way. They broke cars and stores of Japanese brands. Some used rude words. These actions are bad for our position and image. Some actions were against law.
Li Jingjun, a 17-year-old high school student in Guangzhou, was shocked by what he learned from TV and the Internet. He joined protects(抗议) in his city on September 15. But he acted differently. He called for rational (理智的) actions.
“We have every right to say the Diaoyu Islands belong to us, but we should watch our behaviour. Bad manners can harm our dignity(尊严) and sense of justice(正义感)” ,said Li Jingjun.

Four ways to have a good school life
Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and be sure you do not waste (浪费) this great chance to learn?
Be active (积极的) at school
Don't say things are difficult or boring. Take interest in school life and your school subjects. Join lots of activities. Put up your hands quickly in class. Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers cannot make everything enjoyable (令人愉快的).
Keep fit
If you don't eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and don't have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. Play enough sports every day in order to keep your body strong.
Face the problem
Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. You cannot finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don't make small problems very big and important. Don't forget to ask for help. You are young, and no one thinks you must do everything quite well!
Spend the weekends
Don't waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play sports, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn to play the piano, or help someone with problem. If you don't want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practice English or help Mum with housework.
Follow our advice, and have a happy school life!

On Sept 4 and 5 this year, the 11th G20 Leaders Summit (峰会) was held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province in east China. It was a big success.
G20 is made up of the world's most important 20 economies (经济体)—the European Union and 19 countries. Both developed countries like the US and Germany, and developing countries like Brazil and China are members of it. Every year, the G20 members get together and talk about the world economic events. For example, after the financial crisis (金融危机) in 2008, they agreed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF, 国际货币基金组织) could give money to countries in need. Other events also included making sure poorer areas have enough food and good development.
It was the first ever G20 summit to be hosted in China. The logo of the summit looks like a bridge. "I got the idea from the old bridges at the West Lake," said the designer Yuan Youmin. "Bridges bring people and places together in many different ways, just as the G20 makes east and west get together."
Chinese food also pleased many foreign guests with its culture. At the welcome dinner to the member leaders there was one famous dish—Dongpo Rou. Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo made the dish first. Su once lived in Hangzhou.
One main topic of the summit this year is to develop goals and plans of creative growth for G20 members. China itself is developing its creative ability in recent years. It is not easy to host such a summit, butChina has made a great contribution (贡献) to the G20 by bringing out a new future.

There are many times we need to give gifts. Keep these tips in mind as you're thinking about what gift you'll give.
Gift giving dos
Leave the price label in the bag if it is an expensive gift so that others can see how much they need to give back. Remember to hold the gift in both hands to give gifts.
Gift giving don'ts
Don't worry about what card to take with the gift. Cards are seldom used in China, so a Chinese wouldn't expect a card along with a gift.
Choosing the right gift
Gifts for family
When you're meeting your partner's family, a gift is expected, food or fruit baskets are good if you have no idea what to give. If your hometown is known for a special food, buy some to take as gifts.
Gifts for friends
You can spend less money on friends than you do on family. Books, wallets, key rings and special foods like chocolate or coffee are good enough.
Gifts for business partners
When you're starting a business relationship, a tasteful gift will be better. Pens from your company or with the receiver's name is a practical gift. Local snacks from your area is a great gift too.
Gifts to avoid(避免)
You should remember not choose anything because of the cultural symbolism(文化象征) or the word shares a similar pronunciation to some bad things. Clocks, in Chinese, to give a clock has the same pronunciation as the phrase "songzhong". Umbrellas and shoes are not good gifts in China.
In all, a thoughtful gift is great when you want to thank a friend, say goodbye to someone or meet families.
