The old man said, "Yes, I do."

The old man answered, "Well, the people here know each other. They often come and visit me, and I often go and visit them. And there are also lots of children here. "

I am off on a trip on my own. Yes ! Alone! I can't wait to get going to Europe to see some cities I really want to visit. It is great because I can choose what I want to do in each city. I am going to travel by train on the Eurorail.

The train trip was fast and the views of the countryside were amazing. Now I am in Salzburg, Austria. The quiet hills of Austria are a great place to relax. The movie The Sound of Music was filmed around this area. Mozart, the famous musician, was from here. I listened to some of his classical music.

The train ride to Amsterdam was a long one. It gave me time to write some postcards to send back home. Amsterdam is a fun city, full of friendly locals and many tourists. I spent the whole day visiting the art museums here. The museum about the famous Dutch artist Van Gogh is filled with history and beautiful art. I took a boat ride and saw local people in traditional dress. I even got to taste some delicious Dutch cheese.

Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of the safest places in the world. I spent a busy and nice day at the Tivoli Amusement Park. It is a huge park which even has concerts and dance shows. Hans Christian Anderson, a famous writer of children's books, was born in this city. I found a lovely bookshop and bought two of his fairy tale books, The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. My travels alone are done! What an adventure this trip has been! I love it.

There is an elephant and a monkey. They're friends, but one day they want to know who is stronger(更壮). One of them says, “Who can get apples over there, who is stronger.”
There is a river over there. Monkey says, “I can't swim.” Elephant says “I can swim. Please sit my back.” They go across the river. The apple trees are very high. The elephant can't reach(够着) the apples. The monkey climbs(爬)up the tree and gets many apples.

When I was 14, I left school with learning disabilities and decided to surf the biggest waves in the world, first in California and then in Hawaii. One morning, I met an old man, a bum（流浪汉）, on the street comer. He asked me if I was running away from home. I told him, “Not exactly, sir. ”
After talking a while, he told me that he had something to show me and share with me. We walked several blocks until we came upon the downtown Public Library.
The bum asked me to sit down and wait a moment. Later he returned with some books, and then said, “I want to teach you two things. Number one is never to judge a book by its cover, for a cover fools you. I'll bet you think I'm a bum, don't you?”
I said, “I guess so, sir.”
“Well, young man, I've got a little surprise for you. I am one of the wealthiest（富有的）men in the world. But a year ago, when my wife passed away, I realized there were certain things I had not yet experienced in life, one of which was what it would be like to live like a bum on the streets. For the past year I have been going from city to city doing just that. Number two is to learn how to read, for there is only one thing that people can't take away from you, and that is your wisdom（智慧）. ”At that moment, he gave me the books he'd pulled from the shelves. His parting request（请求）was for me to never forget what he taught me. I have remembered until today.

    An artist went to a beautiful place of the country for a holiday, and stayed with a farmer. Every day he went out and painted from morning to evening. When it got dark, he came back to the farm and had a good dinner before he went to bed.
    At the end of his holiday he wanted to pay the farmer, but the farmer said, “No, I don't want money but give me one of your pictures. What is money? In a week it will all be finished, but your painting will be here.”
    The artist was very pleased and thanked the farmer for saying such kind words. The farmer smiled and said, “I have a son in London. He wants to become an artist. When he comes here next month, I will show him your picture, and then he will not want to be an artist any more, I believe.”

My name is Sam . I joined a club called“ passing help ” last month . Now let me tell you why I joined it.

One evening this May, on my way home my old car was broken . It was 25 miles from my home . I wanted to get a ride, but there was no car . It was also hard to take a taxi . I decided to take a bus home .I went to a bus stop nearby .

After a while , a bus came , but it did not go to my town .The bus driver was a young woman . She was kind and she told me which bus I should take . I waited there for about thirty minutes , but no bus came . At last a car came to me and a woman came out of the car .She was just the bus driver.

“When I reached the bus station , I got to know that the bus to your town couldn't come ,so I returned here.I just can't leave you here ,” she said , “ Get in my car and I will take you back to your home .”

“ It is a long way .”I said.

“ Come on ,sir, ”she said ,“ Let's go.”

On the way she told me a story . A few days ago, there wasn't gas(汽油）in her car . An old man drove her up to a gas station and then back to her car.

When we got to my home , I wanted to give her some money to thank her , but she didn't accept it . “ I only want to help others and do something nice for somebody. Pass it along. ” She said.
