Look at the picture. Who is the girl? She is my friend. Her name is Alice Black. She is an English girl.

    Alice has a big family. Her grandparents have two daughters and one son — her father. Alice lives with her grandparents, parents, two brothers and one sister. Alice has two dogs — Bobby and Tony. Bobby is black and Tony is white. Alice likes them very much. Alice is a middle school student. She has a good friend at school. Her name is Helen. They are cousins, too.

A Trip to the Forest

    One day Bob took two of his friends into the mountains. They put up their tents and then rode off to a forest to see how the trees were growing.

    In the afternoon when they were about ten kilometers from their camp（营地）, it started to snow. More and more snow fell. Soon Bob could hardly see his hands before his face. He could not find the road. Bob knew there were two roads. One road went to the camp, and the other went to his house. But all was white snow. Everything was the same. How could he take his friends back to the camp?

    Bob had an idea. The horses! Let the horses take them back! But what would happen if the horses took the road to his house? That would be a trip of thirty-five kilometers in such cold weather!

    It was getting late. They rode on and on. At last the horses stopped. Where were they?

    None of them could tell. John looked around. What was that under the tree? It was one of their tents!

    I'm going to have a great weekend. I'll go across Canada with my parents by car. We'll drive seven or eight hours a day.

    In Toronto, we'll stay in a big hotel. The food is very delicious. There's a big swimming pool and a lot of game rooms. I think I'll play there happily. But there will be lots of people in the hotel, so I think we'll sleep in one room. And it's expensive.

    Then we are going to stay in a small cabin(小木屋) in the mountains. I really love it. The cabin is clean and quiet. We'll have two rooms, so I can get up late in the morning. But we have to get up early because we want to go swimming. There is a beautiful lake near the cabin. We can go fishing and cook food outside.

Cindy and Anna were 1 friends. Some days they could spend hours happily together without any argument, but other days they just could not 2 on what to do.

One day they decided to play in the garden near their school. "Come on! Let's play chess." Anna said.

"I don't want to play chess." Cindy replied.

"We always do what you want to do, Cindy. It's my turn to make 3 ." Anna said. She was getting a little unhappy and 4 , leaving Cindy alone.

Cindy was very angry. 5 she got home, she found she still had Anna's notebook in her schoolbag. "Well, I'm not giving it back to her today. I'm too mad 6 her." Cindy thought.

I was fourteen years old and I just came to the junior high school. It seemed that I would have difficulties finishing high school because I was a troubled teenager. However, one person came into my life quietly and then completely changed everything. 

The first year in my school, Mr. Brown taught me history. He was quite different from the other teachers I had known. But I had to say that he was sure a great teacher. 

One day, Mr. Brown called me aside(到旁边) and asked why I was a B student in his class but a C student in the rest of my classes. I passionately(热情地)told him about my divorced(离婚的)parents, the gangs (尤指滋事的青少年团伙), the fights, the police—all of the evil things I had experienced. It was then that Mr. Brown patiently explained that the only person responsible(有责任的)for my situation was me. And the only person with the ability to change my situation was me, too. He told me that I failed not because I was a failure as a student. He encouraged me to become a better student. 

Ten years later, I was preparing to graduate(毕业)from a university. The first person coming to my mind was him. So I tried to reach him and wanted to tell him that I really wished him to come to enjoy this important moment together with me. 

I'll never forget his reply. He said, "Who is this again?"

At that moment, I came to realize that I was just one of hundreds of the students whose lives were changed by him but he had no idea of his influence. 

Mr. Brown never came to my graduation(毕业), but his not coming taught me another important lesson. His final lesson for me was that we will never know or understand the influence we have on other people's lives. And he also taught me that we all have the chance to influence people's lives for the better or for the worse. 

One day, a rich and well-dressed lady came to see her doctor. She said to him that she thought her whole life was empty and it had no1 .

Her doctor thought for a while and called over the old lady who was cleaning the office floor, and then he said to the rich lady, "I'm going to ask Mary to tell you how she got2 . All I want you to do is to listen. "
