After moving to the United States in 1901, 19-year-old Bob Douglas found a job as a doorman in New York. Later, a co-worker took him to visit a basketball court, and he was amazed by the athletic prowess on display. At that moment, Douglas, who had enjoyed playing sports as a child, was determined to create a basketball team and provide greater opportunities for New York City's Black athletes. 

He needed to find a place for his team to play. When asking a ballroom owner, William Roach, for permission to use one of the dance floors, Douglas was replied with "you guys will break up my place". After promising to take on all the financial risk, he finally persuaded Roach to change his mind and called the team "Rens". 

However, their ballroom had fewer seats and attracted fewer people than others, so Douglas had to pack the house to generate profits and keep his team alive. They traveled the country playing any opponent that would agree to schedule them, during which they repeatedly faced discrimination and unfair treatment and the players were often banned from hotels and restaurants. 

No matter the obstacle, the Rens just kept strict practicing. They helped change the game of basketball by focusing on quick passing, which let the players move faster, play a more fluid (流畅) game and keep winning. In 1925, the Rens shocked the world by defeating the Original Celtics, the most dominant team of their day. During the 1932-33 season, the team won 88 straight games, a professional basketball record that remains unbroken. 

Unfortunately, the Rens disbanded (解散) in 1949. But in time, they were recognized for the important role they played in advancing Black athletes in basketball, ensuring that although the Rens aren't a household name, their story will never be forgotten.

Everyone wants a blue ribbon. Blue. First place. The best. However, I was 1 a blue﹣ribbon person in sports. 

One spring weekend our class had a field trip to a park. After lunch, our teacher 2 the idea of having a three﹣legged race. A little boy got me for a3 . This boy was the second most 4 boy in our class. I'm sure he knew he was in trouble the second they tied his5 to mine. This guy was a winner. But I knew that, with me, he didn't have a 6 . 

The gun sounded, and we were off to the other side.7 when we turned around and headed back for home , we were in the lead!

Then only feet from the finish line, I 8 and fell. Bad luck!

We were close enough that my partner could have easily 9 me across the finish line and won. He could have, but he didn't. Instead, he 10 , reached down, and helped me up, and I still have that little red ribbon. 

When we grew up, I became a lecturer. I gave a 11 to my audience. I told them about that little boy who had made a split﹣second decision that 12 a friend up was more important than winning a blue ribbon. 

I told them why I've kept that ribbon. To me, that ribbon is a 13 that you don't have to be a winner to those closest to you. The world may see you as a failure or a success, but those14 to you will know the truth. That's important to remember as we 15 through this life. 

Over the past 38 years, Mr. Wang has pretended to be someone else many times, and has even learn ed to 1 different dialects (方言), leading to him being described as an "Oscar-winning actor".

The 60-year-old is not an actor, but a 2 However, he is more devoted to his "3 " than any real actor. In the 1990s, a group of thieves often sold stolen goods with the help of some beggars. To look into the 4 , Wang disguised (伪装) himself and 5 the beggars.

Dirty clothes and old shoes gave him the 6 of a real beggar and his convincing dialect soon won him the 7 of the beggars. "I often 8 them to drink alcohol. Once they were 9 they began to talk a lot," Wang said. "I'd then 10 myself to use the toilet, 11 what the beggars said, and send the 12 to my teammates."

Wang, who is often in 13 situations, is also a judo (柔道) master. "As long as I get close enough, no criminal(罪犯)can 14 from me," he said. Wang's 15 won him several honors including a National May Day Labor Medal and 11 Citations of Merit. Paris. 

Rolland and Adeline are proud parents to nine beautiful children. Their youngest two, daughter Lanto, and son, Rindra, were both born with cleft lip（唇裂） conditions. In Madagascar, many families have never seen a cleft lip before, so it's a condition often greeted with fear and misfortune in some rural communities.

However, the news of Lanto and Rindra's cleft lip wasn't much of a shock for Rolland and Adeline because Rolland's cousin—a man in his fifties—had lived his entire adult life with an untreated cleft lip. Although seeing a relative with a cleft lip meant the family weren't fearful of the condition, they knew the negative impact an untreated cleft lip can have on a person's health and life. As any loving parents would, Rolland and Adeline wanted a better future for their children.

Rolland heard an advertisement on the radio about an Operation Smile surgical programme in Antsirabe, Madagascar. Finding out that Rindra and Lanto could have the cleft lip surgery they needed, for free, was a dream for the family. Unlike here in the UK, health services aren't free in many parts of the world, and the costs of treatment—or even travelling to reach medical facilities—are out of reach for most families.

When Rolland and his children arrived at the patient village, they were surprised to see so many other families in the same position. After a thorough medical evaluation by medical volunteers, Lanto was found to be fit enough for surgery, and later got the new smile her parents had dreamed of for her. But, for younger brother Rindra, the journey to a new smile would take a little longer.

I was getting more excited as we got off the train at beautiful Grand Central Station. After a tour at the Museum of Modern Art, we1 Radio City Music Hall and the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. In one of the 2 in the area, I found a tiny boxed set of Peter Rabbit books, perfect for my 3 . Was there anything like Christmas in New York? Having experienced an exciting and tiring tour, we called a  4   back to Grand Central Station.

On the way home I realized that my handbag was gone—lost or 5  , I had no idea. All the magic of this special day  6  . I glumly(闷闷不乐地) imagined a crowded Department of Motor Vehicles and all the phone calls that I'd have to make to get my  7   cards replaced with new ones. And I'd never 8  all those precious photos to my daughters.

The days slipped by while I got rides to college and  9 going to the DMV( 车 管 所 ) at such a busy time of year. Then I got an unexpected 10 , a box with the return address of Radio City Music Hall.  11  , I opened it and shouted in a joyful  12   .

There was my old handbag, with everything 13  good inside—license, cards and photos—and one thing that hadn't been there  14  , a handwritten note, saying, "I found this handbag lying under the seat of my taxi by  15   . Merry Christmas!"

In Hollywood, few actors have experienced a career as diverse and prolific as Harrison Ford. From the fearless Indiana Jones to the charming Han Sol o and the world-weary Rick Deckard, Ford's portrayal（饰演） of iconic characters has left a permanent mark on cinema and pop culture. Yet, the irony lies in how many of his career-defining roles fell into this "late bloomer's" lap by chance.

Born in Chicago, Harrison was discouraged from pursuing a career on the silver screen early on, having failed to land any significant parts. Instead, he turned to professional carpentry（木工） as a means to keep his family fed.

But fate had other plans. While working as a carpenter in Hollywood, Ford crossed paths with numerous celebrity clients such as Joan Didion and, most notably, director George Lucas, who hired him to build cabinets for his office. Little did Ford know that this chance encounter would lead to his breakthrough role as the charming Han Solo in Star Wars. Lucas was impressed by Ford's presence and offered him the iconic role. In time, Ford rose to a star.

Ford's next lucky moment came when he tried out for the role of Indiana Jones in a massive project by Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Spielberg initially wanted Ford for the role, but Lucas was hesitant as he had already worked with Ford on Star War and 1973'sAmerican Graffiti. Then the production team tried many other possibilities but without luck. Eventually, the role went to Ford, strengthening his status as a Hollywood legend.

The film series became a worldwide sensation, stimulating people's imagination and inspiring a generation of future archaeologists. Over 40 years and four films later, Ford found himself completing the series with the fifth and final installment. Eighty-one-year-old Harrison received a five-minute standing ovation（鼓掌） at the Cannes Film Festival Premiere and picked up an honorary Palmed' Or for his achievements.

Ford's commitment to his career is evident as he said, "I love the work! My luck has been to work with incredibly talented people, to find my way into this crowd of geniuses." Despite his legendary status in Hollywood, Ford's humility shines through.
