Jerry, 30 years old, owned a pizza restaurant. He lived in a flat about one mile north of the restaurant. He walked to and from work. When it was raining, he took the bus.

    Jerry loved gangster（匪徒）movies. When a new on came out, he would go to the theater and watch the new movie three or four times. Then, when it went to video, Jerry would buy the video at Tom's Video Store. Jerry had a home collection of over 1, 000 gangster videos. Old ones, new ones; coloured, black and white; English, Spanish, Japanese-he loved them all. He could tell you the name of the movie, the director, the stars, and the story.

    Jerry finally decided that he would like to own a gun, just like the gangsters. So he saved his money and one day he went to a gun store and bought one for $300. On Saturday morning, he went to the gun club to practise shooting 射击）. He was in the club for only 10 minutes when he accidentally（偶然）dropped his gun. The gun went off, and the bullet（子弹）went into Jerry's right knee（膝盖）.

    Jerry now walks with a walking stick, just like some gangsters.

    Today is the first day of the week. It is in the afternoon. Mr. Read is driving his car to his sister's school. Now he is very near the school. But he doesn't know the way to it. At this time, he sees a young woman. Mr. Read comes out of his car and goes to her. "Excuse me! Where's the school, please?" he asks. The young woman says, "It's very near here. I want to go with you."

    Now the young woman is sitting in the car. Soon they come to a small house and she says, "Stop, please!" Mr. Read stops the car and says, "But this is not a school." "No," says the young woman, "this is my house. I want to get home early before dinner time. Thanks for driving me home. The school is behind the factory. So go back to the factory and then turn right, you can find the school."

    What comes to your mind when you hear the word "twins"? Born on the same day? Looking almost the same? Or having the same hobbies? Well, I have a twin brother who was born on a different day from me. We do not look very much alike and we are always interested in different things.

Twelve years ago, my brother, Wayne, was born at eleven fifty-eight on the night of May 28. Five minutes later, I was born一on May 29. Since we were born, I have always been heavier and stronger than Wayne, so people usually think I am the older brother.

    But Wayne is always smarter than L He loves reading and learns many things quickly. He knows a lot about animals, although he does not spend much time with our dogs and birds. He knows e lot about bicycles, but never likes to ride bikes as much as I do.

    Though we are very different, I love my brother very much. I hope both of us can have a happy life in the future.

A long time ago, there was a very silly thief(小偷). Do you know what he did one day? 

When he wanted to steal the bell(铃铛)on his neighbour's door, he walked up to the door, took hold of(抓住) the bell and pulled hard. The bell made a very loud noise. The thief was afraid and went home. 

Then he sat down to think, "I must do something about the noise. "He thought and thought. At last he had an idea. "Ah, I'll put some cotton(棉花) in my ears. Then I won't be able to hear the noise. " The next day, he went to the door of his neighbour, and took hold of the bell. This time he pulled even harder. The bell rang loudly, but the thief did not hear anything. With another hard pull, he got the bell out. Just then the neighbour came out.

"Steal my bell? I'll teach you a lesson, "the angry man shouted. And he hit the thief on the nose.

The silly thief did not know how the neighbour found out he was stealing the bell. "Why did he come out just then?" he wondered. Isn't he stupid?
