Are you having trouble concentrating when you're reading a book or listening to a lecture? This list of activities might help to improve your study habits.

Make a List. We often have trouble paying attention to one thing because our brain wants to think about something else. You don't worry about whatever else you should be doing.

Sleep More. Studies show that people who sleep fewer than eight hours a night for a period of time have slower response systems and more difficulty recalling information.

Eat Healthier Foods. Many people enjoy foods high in fats and sugars. They might give you a temporary burst of energy. However, that energy is soon followed by a crash.

Reduce Screen Time. This may be the most unpopular suggestion among young people. Screen time — or time spent looking at cell phones, televisions, computer screens, has a clear effect on the attention span.

Concentration improves for students who participate in team sports. It could be that being active is helpful in this way. Participating in a sport trains your brain to concentrate on specific tasks, and shut out other thoughts.

A. Be active.

B. Practice more.

C. These foods can provide enough energy for focusing.

D. But these foods can't be helpful enough when it comes to focusing.

E. That is bad news for teens who stay up studying the night before a test.

F. Researchers advise parents to limit it when their children need to be focused.

G. By writing down all the things you need to do, you'll gain a sense of control.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Friendships between Americans can be close and real, yet disappear soon if situations change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greetings for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while — then no more.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. This can be quite difficult for us Chinese to understand, because friendships between us develop more slowly but then may become lifelong feelings, extending (延伸) sometimes deeply into both families.

Americans are ready to receive us foreigners at their homes, share their holidays, and their home life. They will enjoy welcoming us and be pleased if we accept their hospitality (好客) easily.

There is another difficult point for us Chinese to understand.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} This is usually the opposite of the practice in our country where we may be generous (慷慨)with our time. Sometimes, we, as hosts, will appear at airports even in the middle of the night to meet a friend.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. The Americans, however, express their welcome usually at homes, but truly cannot manage the time to do a great deal with a visitor outside their daily routine. They will probably expect us to get ourselves from the airport to our own hotel by bus. And they expect that we will phone them from there.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. We will find ourselves treated hospitably(好客).

For the Americans, it is often considered more friendly to invite a friend to their homes than to go to restaurants, except for business matters. So accept their hospitality at home!

Understanding special education

What will appear in your mind when you think about special education? You might picture children with disabilities spending the day in a different classroom, separated from most of the kids of their age. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. But as the field of special education has moved forward, it much has changed.

Special education today is still focused on helping children with disabilities learn. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. In fact, federal law requires that students who receive special education services be taught alongside their non-disabled peers as much as possible. For example, some students with reading disorder may spend most of the day in a general education classroom. They may spend just an hour or two in a resource room working with a specialist on reading and other skills.

The changes are also reflected in other aspects. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. It's tailored(量体裁衣) to meet each student's needs. Special education refers to a range of services that can be provided in different ways and in different settings. If your child qualifies for special education, he'll receive individualized teaching resources. The specialists who work with your child will focus on his strengths as well as his challenges.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Making the curriculum accessible to students with disabilities is a lot like making buildings accessible to people in wheelchairs. School districts have a process in place to determine which students are qualified for special education. If the district agrees to evaluate your child, the testing will be conducted at no cost to you.

A budget is your plan for how you spend your money. Saving money isn't easy unless you have a plan and stick to it. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

Set Savings Goals

Defining a goal for your savings plan is the very first step. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) promotes using SMART savings goals: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and tailored. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. By setting SMART financial goals that are a good fit for your personal finances, you are more likely to keep up with the plan and succeed.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Overspending is scary for many savers and spenders, but getting weekly spending down on paper can be enlightening and uncover opportunities to save an amount of money right away. Check out the CFPB's spending tracker that automatically sums expense categories and highlights spending limits, helping you stay in control of your money.

Evaluate and Cut Down Monthly Bills

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. But you may be able to reduce some of the bills. Look for ways to upgrade to energy-efficient appliances if your budget allows. Subscriptions and streaming services are other areas that hide monthly expenses.

Make a Budget and Use Technology

Once you've reduced expenses and identified your savings goal, a budget is key to start saving. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. If you find yourself getting hit with late payment fees or insufficient funds on your checking account, it's definitely time to address this with technology. Not only do these fees burn lots of money when you're trying to save it, but they can also hit your credit report and impact your credit score.

A. Track Spending Habits

B. Identify and Change Spending Habits

C. The savings goals you set must be in line with your financial situation

D. Apps and online banking working together make it easier to set up ways to save

E. There are some expenses you can't get around: shelter, food, health care and insurance

F. Setting savings goals and conducting an honest review of spending habits are significant

G. Visit your credit card's website to ensure you take advantage of available cash-back offers
