Several companies are racing to produce electronic paper and ink, complete with colors and moving imagines(图像). One idea would be to create a newspaper like The Daily Project in the Harry Potter books. Its pages would hold video clips of baseball games instead of just black-and-white photos.

   Electronic paper is not a new idea. A company in Massachusetts called E ink, for example, has been working for years on such a technology. Little electricity determines(决定)whether each microsphere(灌球)looks black or white at any given time. Together, microspheres make up words and imagines. The techniques seems promising for creating still imagines that can be changed when needed, but the process(进程)is too slow for good videos.

Scientists in the Netherlands now report a new type of e-paper technology. By using layers(层) of oil, the requirements. They can also make images which change fast enough to meet standard video requirements. They can also make brilliant colors. So far, however, each image is smaller than the fingernail.

For now, readingand watching TV will have to return two separate activities. Keep your eyes open, though, in the future, TV watching and reading might be part of the same work.

    MSG(monosodium glutamate谷氨酸单钠) is a food additive(食品添加剂),which has been widely used by many food factories all over the world since it appeared first in Japan in 1909.

    MSG is a substance that is added to some food to improve its taste and color. It is used in foods around the world such as cakes, bread, frozen meat, fish and vegetables. In the beginning, people thought MSG was safe just like salt and sugar. However, in 1968 some people reported they seemed to have bad reactions(反应) to MSG after having had a meal at a restaurant. They included headaches and quick heartbeat . It was also reported that MSG excited a person's brain and caused his death in Japan. Scientists think that MSG may lead to many neurological disorders(神经紊乱). In mice studies done by a university, the result showed the mice didn't want to eat the food including MSG.

    Today many food companies “hide” MSG on food labels(标签) by using different names. If you see “natural flavorings (调味品) ”,“hydrolyzed protein” and  “spices” in a food label, you are probably seeing a hidden way to “report” MSG in a food label. Every time we have a meal in a restaurant, we always feel the food very delicious to taste, but sometimes it is dangerous for our health because some harmful food additives have been added to the food.

    To protect people's health, our governments, from central to local, are taking action to stop factories producing harmful food additives.

    There will be a kind of new cars in the future．People will like this kind of small cars better than the big ones．The car is as small as a bike．But it can carry two people in it．Everybody can drive it easily，just like riding a bike．Even children and old people can drive them to schools or parks．

    If everyone drives such cars in the future，there will be less pollution in the air．There will be more space for all the cars in cities，and there will also be more space for people to walk in the streets．

    The little cars of the future will cost less money to buy and to drive．These little cars can go only 65kilometers an hour，so driving will be safer．The cars of the future will be fine for going around the city，but they will not be useful for a long trip．

    This kind of cars can save a lot of gas（汽油）．They will go450kilometers，and then they have to stop for more gas．They are nice cars，aren't they？

    Most of us know that Ikea is the world's biggest furniture company. However, did you know that it's also a pioneer in environmental protection?

    Ikea says it's working hard to improve the environment. The company has made huge efforts to cut the carbon emissions(碳排放)of its suppliers(供应商).Over the past five years, Ikea has helped its suppliers become 18 percent more energy-efficient. It managed to do so by bringing its suppliers together. The one that produces the least carbon emissions will be praised.

    Ikea has also invested(投资)heavily in clean energy. The company now operates more than 300 wind turbines(叶轮机)around the world. It has also set up nearly 750,000 solar panels(太阳能嵌板)on the roof of its stores. As a result, Ikea can produce 71 percent of the energy it uses, which are all from clean sources. In some countries，such a} Denmark and Finland，the company produces as much energy as it uses.

    Ikea has been buying forests as well. It owns nearly 750 square kilometers of forest.

    Last but not least, Ikea has tried changing customers' behavior(行为).It does so by improving product designs. In 2015, Ikea changed all of its lighting products into LED. This change alone, it says, has saved lots of electricity.

    The monarch is one of the most beautiful butterflies. It is famous for its yearly migration（迁徙）from the northern part of North America to Mexico, There, millions of monarchs spend the winter together in one small area. This migration is one of the greatest wonders of nature. Yet this behavior has now put the monarch at risk.

    Every September, millions of monarchs from the United States fly to Mexico. After about two months of flying time, they reach their sanctuary(庇护所)in central Mexico. Then, in the warm climate of private and quiet valleys, far from most human activity, the butterflies create one of nature's great scenes. They cover every tree with bright color. The show lasts until spring, when the butterflies return north.

    While they are all crowded together, the monarchs are highly weak. If the environment in those valleys was disturbed, the whole species could be hurt or even die out. That is why for many years scientists who knew about the monarchs' winter sanctuary kept the location a secret.

    In recent years, however, the monarchs' secret has been discovered. Today, the butterflies' winter sanctuary is crowded with tourists, who disturb the environment. Worse still, local farmers who need more land to farm have begun to take up the area. They are cutting down trees, making it difficult for the butterflies to survive. They should not farm in the monarchs' sanctuary.

    People should act immediately to protect the species' winter sanctuary. Local farmers must be helped so that they no longer need to take land from the butterflies. Tourist visits to the butterflies' hidden valleys must also be limited. Unless these steps are taken soon, in a few years the monarch butterfly of North America may be just a beautiful memory.
