Almost all of us have unpleasant habits. We all want to get rid of(摆脱) them, but we don't know proper ways. Here's some advice.

    ●Write down all the reasons why you want to stop some behavior. Look at the reasons very often.

    ●It's clever to do something else when you want to stop your bad habits. If you get angry easily, for example, you can go out for a walk.

    ●Decide what you'll do to reward(奖励) yourself if you really get rid of your bad habits.

    ●If you get too heavy, keep junk food out of your house.

    ●Bad habits develop over years, so you can't get rid of them very soon. So you should be patient.

    ●Don't be afraid to ask others for support. You can talk to your friends, family or other people. When you talk to them, they might be able to provide some advice that you can't get from yourself.

    While you are at the bookstore, you may be faced with a difficult decision: e-books or paper books? Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Making the best decision depends on a number of factor (因素).

    An e-reader can carry a whole library wherever you go, which is great for travelers or those who always want a choice of reading material Although e-readers are convenient, high levels of screen brightness from an electronic device(电子设备) can cause eye problems. A study in the Information Science Research found that young people preferred e-readers, like smart phones or iPads. That's why most teenagers are short-sighted.

    Many book lovers still prefer paper books and value the feeling of them. Paper books are very well designed, they look and smell good, and they carry with them a more human touch. Avid (热衷的)readers prefer reading on paper. Perhaps this is their choice because paper books give them a sense of ownership. It is reported that reading on paper rather than an electronic screen is better for memory and focus. But paper books are heavy and they are not convenient to carry.

    Which is your decision, an e-book or a paper book?

    In the Middle Eastern country of Lebanon, there are more than 1 million refugees (难民). Youssef was 10 years old when a local Syrian musician discovered his talent: a deep, powerful voice-well-suited to traditional songs. However, Syria's civil war took place soon. He and his family lost their home.

    When the Action for Hope Music School announced that it was looking for talented children to train, his family encouraged him to attend the school. A year and a half later, Youssef, with another 11 children, was chosen to take part in a concert.

    Youssef, a shy boy, was a lead singer in the concert. He gave a confident performance of traditional Syrian songs. "We only heard the sound of a mortar(迫击炮）. It fell near us. A whole building came down. That is all I remember," said Youssef. "Music makes me forget everything. Music is the most important thing."

    Basma, director of Action for Hope, said," The music school offers children who suffer from the war strength (力量). They can find a good way to express themselves and stop thinking of themselves as refugees."

    "Art gives strength. It comes from the ability to create," Basma said, "People who are in difficult conditions need this strength much more than the rich."

    Sleep plays an important role in brain (大脑) development. Children should get enough sleep.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} A study says that because of being short of sleep, it is much harder for children to do something carefully. And also they become forgetful and easy to make mistakes. Another study shows that the right amount of night—time sleep is just as important for children's development as healthy eating and taking exercise.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} In general a younger child needs more sleep than an older one. Children at the age of 5-11 will need 10-12 hours of sleep a night while children at the age of more than 11 will need less hours.

    In fact, many parents don't know how to help their children get enough sleep. Here is something you can do. For children at the age of 5-11, a 30-40 minutes' routine (常规) before sleep is helpful.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} In the activities, children relax and enjoy themselves a lot, and they will go to sleep more easily.

    Children at the age of more than II may go to bed late in the evening, talking with friends online, playing games or watching TV. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  And even they will be tired during the day. So limit(限制) your children's use of the Internet, games and the TV before they go to bed.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

whole article, the headline(标题) and photo give you a general idea of the story.

    Different kinds of articles

    A news article includes body text and a photo with a short piece of text under it. It usually puts the most important information at the very beginning. If you don't have much time to read the story, just have a look at the first paragraph.

    A feature article is an in-depth(深人的) report on an event or a person. It usually has an interesting opening. You get to know the idea of the article as you read.

    Another kind of article is an opinion article. Usually, some famous people give their own opinions about an important issue in a fun way. Opinion article is different from news stories that are all facts.

Be a critical(批判性的) reader

    There are advertisements in newspapers. They can provide useful information about products, places, food or jobs. Remember that people make advertisements to sell you things. You don't have to do everything advertisements tell you to do. You should be critical enough to judge which advertisements are useful and which are not.
