    How are you? I want to tell you about the ways (方式) my family go to work or school. My parents are teachers, but they are not in the same school. My father's school is far from our home. It's about five kilometers. He drives his car to school every day. My mother usually walks to her school, because her school is near our home. I have two brothers, John and Peter. John is a high school student (高中生). He likes taking a bus to school. He thinks it is fun, because he can meet his friends and tall with them on the bus. It takes him thirty minutes to get to school. Peter and I are students in a middle school. My mother is in the school, too. I always go to school with Peter. We ride our bikes to school for ten minutes every school day.

When people walk into Ninth Primary School in Zhongning County, almost everyone will be amazed by its playground. The playground has over 30 basketball racks(架子), over 40 ping-pong tables and eight football fields of different sizes. Although Ninth Primary School has a short history, it has already become famous for its sports characteristics(特色). The magazine invited one student and the two headmasters at this school to share their ideas about_sports._

I think that basketball has changed me from a weak girl to a strong girl. I am now     in Class Seven, Grade Six. I began to play basketball when I was in the first grade. Recently, in preparation for the competition, my friends and I train for about an hour every day. Last year, we didn't do well in the game, and this year we all want to win first place.

Starting from the second term of the first grade, each class has to set up six sports teams. I think when children are interested in sports, it can help them a lot. They will not have the energy (精力)and time to do meaningless things, and many educational problems will be solved

Sports are the best education, as it can help shape a chid's qualities (品质). Every competition a child experiences can develop their abiity to fice chalenges and teach them how to work hard. 

Most American families like to have a vacation in summer. Summer is a good season for vacation. It is often hot in July and August.

Children do not go to school in those two months. Some people like to stay at home read books，do housework，or watch TV. Many families take their lunch to eat at a place with many trees or a nice lake. Some people have enough time and money to travel（旅 行）to other countries like France, Japan and Australia. They usually fly to these countries. Many families travel by car or train to see interesting plac‐ es in their own countries. Their favorite cities are New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Not everyone likes to go to busy cities. Some families travel to mountains.

It is true that people with better education* are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose* of education is to make people get jobs. But not all the people agree with this idea.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education in order to make more money in the future. This was probably one of the earliest purposes of education. In fact, if education is just a way to make a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. They can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. And people don't have to learn maths and languages so carefully. So it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.

So what is education for? Education is well-rounded and it should improve a man in many ways. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative* thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all, take an interest in the world.

I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the only reason.

Yang Jiang, the famous woman writer and translator (翻译家), is well- known to us all. 

Yang was born in Beijing in 1911. Her real name is Yang Jikang. She graduated from university and went to Tsinghua University as a postgraduate (研究生) in the 1930s. There she met Qian Zhongshu. They fell in love and got married. In the 1940s, she started to use the name Yang Jiang as her pen name. Since then, she has been commonly known as Madam Yang Jiang. In the 1950s, she worked for Peking University and started to learn Spanish. She began to write short novels in the 1980s. Many of them are famous, such as The Old Wang (《老王》), After Baptism (《洗澡之后》) and We Three (《我们仨》).

Although Madam Yang has passed away, we will never forget the great madam. 

Ye Lianping is a 96-year-old retired teacher from a village in Anhui Province. He has been teaching left-behind children there for free during the past 24 years.

Teaching has always been an important part of Ye's life. After he retired, he began offering free English-language classes to left-behind children. He first set up a classroom in his own house. Later, with the help of the government, he got another two classrooms. To provide education for more children, he also set up the Ye Lianping Scholarship Fund with almost all his money and the donations (捐赠物) from others. So far, it has helped hundreds of left-behind children.

Ye is quite generous to these children, but he spends very little money on himself. He lives a very simple life. He lives with his wife in a house built over 30 years ago. He never buys any drinks. And he has been wearing the same jacket for over 40 years.

Although he is getting older, Ye is never tired of teaching. In 2018, he got hurt while riding a bicycle to buy vegetables. Instead of resting in bed for recovery, he quickly returned to class with a walking stick.

Ye is racing against time to spend as much time as possible on left-behind children's education. People call him "the candlelight of the village". But he said, "I'm just a firefly (萤火虫), making little light, not as much light as a candlelight can give."
