My mother used to say things just to make me mad。 Like most teenagers, I thought I knew everything. And what I didn't know, I didn't want to be told. For example, if I said I was going to a movie, my mother would roll her eyes. On my way out, she'd shout, “You need to slow yourself down before something bad happens! You don't want to learn that the hard way!” I didn't know what that meant. I thought she just wanted me to stay at home.

    Many years later I had three teenagers of my own. They thought they knew everything. I would say the same things to them like my mom. That's when I first saw it. My mother wasn't trying to help me.

    Why do we always have to learn things “the hard way”? Why can't we just accept our elders' wisdom? It's a good lesson for anyone. Clearly, I still haven't learned it.

    Yesterday, I stepped out of the shower when I heard my cell phone ringing in the kitchen. Grabbing a towel, I ran through the house. I grabbed the phone and hit my left foot against the table. The X-ray showed that I'd broken two toes.

    We all need to slow ourselves down once in a while, before something bad does it for us. My mother was right about a lot of things. I wish I could have told her.

    Nina and Julia are two lovely girls．They are 14 years old and go to school in London．But they weren't at school last week—they were doing work experience．And this week they are back in the classroom．Now a school reporter is talking with them about their work．

O：Where did you work?

N：I worked in a restaurant．

J：I worked for a TV company(公司)．

O：What did you do?

N：I cleaned the tables and swept the floor and I also served the customers（顾客）．I gave them their food and drinks and took the money．I started really early—at 6：00 a．m．The restaurant opened at 7：00 a．m．and closed at 6：00 p．m．I didn't stay until 6：00 p．m．一I finished work at 2：00p．m．The staff(全体员工)were friendly but we didn't have much time for talking．We were all really busy!

J：I worked in an office of the TV company．I started at 10：00 a．m．and finished at 6：00 p．m．I helped my boss(领导)with different jobs．Sometimes he told me to answer the phone．Other times he asked me to use the computer to look for  information he needed．I was really busy all day!

Q：Did you enjoy it?

N：No．I didn't! I wanted to work in a restaurant because I like cooking．But I didn't do any cooking all week．I am very happy to go back to school．

J：Yes，I did! The boss was kind and the staff were nice．I've really learned a lot from them．

    There was a little boy called Peter. He lived in a village close to the sea. The villagers built seawalls to keep sea water from the doors of the houses. But once the sea walls almost put the village in great danger.

    One day, Peter was walking on his way back home along the sea wall when it began to rain. All of a sudden, he saw a hole in the wall, from which the sea water was running.

    Peter shouted for help because he knew the hole meant that the sea was making its way through the sea wall, but no answer came. He realized he should do something else as quickly as possible, of the sea water could be pouring over the whole village. He started to rush towards his village.

At the same time, the rain became heavier and heavier.

    It was getting dark, but Peter rushed on and on. He felt cold and hungry in the rainstorm, he fell down over and over again. Many times he thought about giving up, but he fought on.

    He remembered his father's words, "Lots of strong men have made every effort to build the walls which can keep the village safe from danger.

The sea walls are really important. "Finally, when the boy's father saw him. Peter had been black and blue all over. The boy told the villagers what had happened to the sea wall. They repaired it in time. "Thank God! He saved the village." They praised Peter. All the villagers called him "Peter the Guard" from then on. Peter's parents were really proud of him!

    When we want to buy a house, we all want to have nice neighbours to live near us, because most of us think that it is helpful to live with some good neighbours. But what kind of neighbour is good? The answers are different from people to people. Here are my answers.

    First, it is very important for our neighbours to respect our life. If we have a neighbour and he or she tries to know more about our life, how will we feel? He or she may also talk with others about our life. Do you want to live with him or her any more? The answer is "No". We will feel very sad to have this kind of neighbour and we may want to move away as quickly as we can.

    Next, a good neighbour is always ready to give us a hand when we need him or her. For example, if we are not at home and someone tries to open our door, our neighbour sees it, and calls 110. It will help us a lot.

    Finally, a good neighbour should love the environment(环境). He or she never puts rubbish here and there. And he or she should throw all the rubbish into the bin and keep the place clean. A good environment can make people who live in it comfortable and feel happy all the time.

    I think we all should learn to be good neighbours, and I also hope everyone will have good neighbours and live a happy life.

    Didyou ever set up a lemonade stand (柠檬水小摊) when you were a kid？ Manyof us did and if we were very lucky, we could make enough money to buy icecream from the Good Humour Truck.

Last Saturday, Jack Yielding, a five-year-old boy from Oakville, Ontario, got $41,233from two lemonade stands and a car charity (慈善) wash. Jack gave the money to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, where Jack who has epilepsy (羊癫疯）, is a patient there.

    Thiswas Jack's second year to host the Lemonade Stand for sick kids, andthe whole town came to show their love. More than 1,000peoplecame to the lemonade stands on Saturday.
