    On April 26,2017,China's homemade aircraft carrier(航空母舰) hit the water in Dalian,Liaoning.

    The new ship is China's second aircraft carrier and it has no name yet. China's first carrier is Liaoning, which was bought from Ukraine(乌克兰) and later rebuilt by China. The new carrier was designed(设计) in China and the building began in 2013.It is about 315 meters long and 75 meters wide.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}The ship must be completed at sea, which will take several years.

    But an aircraft carrier is very hard and expensive to build{#blank#}4{#/blank#} it is said that a basic aircraft carrier is made of 60,000 tons of steel! It also uses different technologies. Finally, it takes years to build.

    The population of Earth is still going up. There will be less and less good land for growing crops in the future. People worry that there will not be enough food for everyone in the middle of this century.

    Recently scientists have discovered one strange plant named fedtschenkoi（玉吊钟）may help. It can absorb（吸收）carbon dioxide(CO₂) at night. It only needs 10 times less water than food plants like beans. This means it can grow in the desert(沙漠).

    In which ways could this plant help us?

    Since deserts are increasing in size because of the changes in Earth's climate, growing plants there will be more and more important. Although it is dangerous to eat this plant, scientists can still study something about it: how it absorbs CO₂ at night while many other plants only do this during the day, and why it is suited to the desert.

    There is another direction to take the research in. Producing a desert plant to eat will be difficult, but there is still possibility to use the genes(基因)from this plant and put them into food plants.

    The other way is to grow this type of plant for fuel(燃料). At the moment we grow plants for fuel in good land. If we do it in deserts instead, more good land can be used to grow plants for food.

    Desert plants have special qualities, which could be an answer to our future food or energy needs. Scientists are working hard on it.

    My school is so beautiful. It is in a small village in Germany. There's a special activity in my school. And I'm sure you've never heard about it. It is called Abi-Ulk. It's the favourite day for us.

    Every summer in our school, we have the Abi-Ulk day. On that day, students will no longer take lessons in classrooms but rush onto the playground. They can play games together and have fun for a whole school day. How about the teachers? They have to sit in an obstructed(堵住的) area to ensure that they can't control the students on the other side of the playground.

    Last year's Abi-Ulk impressed me a lot. I still remember that it was a hot day. We all went to the playground. But this time, we didn't just play games but had a water fight！Everyone had a water gun. We ran after each other and tried to shoot others with water. The fight was so exciting！After an hour, we all got wet. Then, the school band started to play. Teachers came from their "obstructed area" and joined us. We danced and sang. What a fun day!

    Why should we be kind?

    Being kind is a win-win situation. It brings happiness to both the receiver and the doer of this kind action. Let's imagine you have a workmate who always does a very good job. How about taking a moment to mention this to him? Your workmate will be happy to receive some praise，and you will probably feel good about yourself for having spread a little joy.

    What are "random acts of kindness"?

    Many organizations encourage people to do kind acts whenever and wherever possible. Their idea is that it doesn't take any plan to be kind，just a little bit of effort. Perhaps the strongest supporters of this idea are the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK)Foundation，who work with schools and companies to teach people kindness skills. They believe that kindness can be taught.

    How can I be kind?

    The RAK website suggests some ways to show kindness. Generally，they fall into three categories(类别). The first is interpersonal kindness, like donating old clothes to charity or writing a positive online comment about a restaurant. The second is environmental kindness，which could mean recycling or cleaning a local park. The third category is personal kindness，which means treating yourself kindly，such as taking a walk in nature or treating yourself to a big meal. By being kind to yourself，you will be kinder to the world around you.

    What is World Kindness Day?

    World Kindness Day takes place on 13November. People in many countries celebrate this day by being kind and having lots of fun. One typical event is to use "kindness cards"．You hand a kindness card to somebody when you do a kind act for him. Then it is his turn to pass on the card by doing a kind act for another person.

    Being kind has a sort of ripple(涟漪)effect. This means that one kind action leads to more and more. So don't wait for kindness to find you, go and start a new ripple!
