Ladies and gentlemen, I returned to this year in a time machine. In the year 2500, we are able to travel through time to any year in the history of the earth. This year is your last chance to change your lifestyle to save the earth.

    Beginning in the middle of the 20th century, a few people were worried about polluting the earth's water and air, but most people did not change their way of life.  Instead, they continued to pour(倒) dangerous chemicals and other waste into lakes and seas, to drive more and more cars and trucks, and to cut down trees.

By the year 2200, the earth's water was completely polluted. Scientists said that in the future there might be too many people on the earth. People could no longer drink water, and they had to use other types of liquids(液体).

So, by the year 2300, there were so many people that food became scarce. There was no water to grow food and all of the fish in the lakes and seas died because of pollution Terrier wars(战争) broke out between the rich and the poor. Scientists were working very hard to find another planet in space where humans could live on.

By the year 2400, the air was too polluted for humans to breathe. So we had to leave earth but only the rich were able to leave. Where did we go? Nowhere. And everywhere. You see scientists did not find another safe planet, so now we must travel around the universe in our space ships. We are still looking for a place to call our home.

    So, it is up to you to change history. There is still hope. You must change your lifestyle now, before it is too late.

Going Green

Green is no longer just a color. It is a new way of thinking about the world and a way of living your life. It's catching on all over the world. More and more people decide to "go green" because they know that we only have one planet to live on. We won't be able to live on it much longer if we keep wasting energy, and destroying(破坏) our home with air, land, and water pollution.

"Green Living" means:

    Understanding that your choices affect(影响) not just you, but everybody everywhere.

It can soon build into a wave that will change the whole planet and lead us all to healthier, happier lives.

Gabrielle, 12, writes, "I have helped my community plant a garden and I ride my bike or skateboard to school."

Kaitlyn, 10, says, "Lots of paper towels are thrown away, so I use a reusable cloth towel to dry my hands instead."

"I always recycle(重复利用)" says Natalie, 13. "You can call me a recycler! I always look at the bottom of things. I want to see whether they have the little sign that tells you it can be recycled. So I almost recycle everything!"

    Chinese scientists called on all over the country to fight against serious water pollution in China yesterday.Following days of heavy haze(雾霾)that influenced most parts of China earlier this year polluted water is becoming another big worry among people on popular social Internet

    Websites have called for cutting down water pollution in necessary ways.

    “We should not only protect water,but also pay attention to water pollution,”said Xue Manzi,a well-known investor(投资人)on Sina Weibo.“Dead pigs are found in rivers and waster is poured into rivers and underground.”said Xue.The Huangpu River provider 22 percent of Shanghai's drinking water.But earlier this momth,thousands of dead pigs were found in it.This made people scared and worried,although local government tried to showthat the water was safe.

    In February,some factories in Weifang in Shandong had put waste water underground,polluting the local drinking water.“Clean water and air are necessary for people to live. A responsible government will strictly protect the environment from being polluted,”said a microblogger.

    Recently, many people have begun to try a new way of shopping through the Internet. They are very interested in it. Why is it becoming more and more popular now? There are some reasons. First, more and more people have their own computers and their computers can be joined with the Internet. So it is possible for many of them to do some shopping through the Internet. Second, shopping through the Internet can save some money and a lot of time. Third, they don't need to go to the shop themselves, Because of these good facts, few people refuse it.

However, some people don't like this new way of shopping. They are worried about the safety of shopping online, Customers can only see the pictures of a product on the Internet.     Humans have learnt many things from nature. These things have helped us in our daily life. The latest thing is self-repairing clothing.

    Scientists have developed a special way for clothing to repair rips and tears by itself, without the need for sewing. It works with materials such as cotton, linen and wool. The scientists are from the Naval Research Office and Pennsylvania State University in the USA. Scientists Dr Walter Dressick and Dr Melik Demirel looked at how a squid can cling on to things so well. The research team found a protein in the rings of teeth that cover the suckers on a squid. The protein is similar to the one found in the silk that spiders use to make spider webs. It is very strong and elastic.

    The new protein has been developed as part of a coating, which is put on clothes. When the coating is dipped in water, the area around the rip or tear joins together in less than a minute. This could help clothes last longer and save money for us. It could also be useful for military and survival clothes. People like soldiers and mountaineers would be safer if they had clothes that could be repaired quickly and easily. Professor Demirel spoke about the invention. He said," The coatings are thin, less than a micron, so they wouldn't be noticed in everyday wear." Then he added, "Even thin, they increase the overall strength of the material. For the first time, we are making self-healing textiles."
