Jason turned off the TV after watching the X Games. Sportsmen from all over the world were competing in the most amazing sports.
Just then his grandmother walked into the room1 some cookies. Jason took one and said"I want to be extreme(极限). "
"You are!"she2 .
"I mean I want to be an extreme sportsman. "said Jason.
"Well, "she saId, "surfing is out. We are hundreds of miles from the3 . I guess it will have to be skateboarding. "
"Would you really let me? You always worry about my4 !"said Jason.
"You will have to follow some rules, "said his grandmother. "You can only ride in the park but5 on the streets. You have to promise to wear a helmet. If you hurt6 too much, I have the right to take your board away. Is it a deal?"
"You bet!"Jason was so excited that he jumped up. Cookie crumbs(饼干屑) flew7 .
On Saturday, his grandmother8 him off near the park. "I'll be up the street at the library. "she said. "Meet me there when you've had enough. "
"OK. Thanks, " Jason said9 he got out of the car. He was happy that his grandmother let him try new things.
However, while watching kids in the park moving up and down the ramp freely, Jason felt a bit 10 . He knew that none of it was going to be easy.
Very 11 he carried his board to the ramp. Taking a deep breath, he put his right foot on the board. He kicked off with his left foot. For a few seconds he glided(滑) along, just waiting to fall. Finally he came to a stop. Then he tried again, 12 the worst to happen. Again, he stayed up safely. The 13 time he glided, lost his balance, and fell hard on his left knee.
It hurt, but it was okay! 14 was he so afraid? Now he felt calm.
Next time he kicked off harder and went faster and farther.
"Excellent!"shouted a girl as she passed him.

Many countries have special holidays that celebrate important events in their past. For example, the United Statc s has Independence Day on July 4th. France has Bastille Day op July 14th. And in Chile, they cclebrate the Fiesta s Patrias on September 18th. But Chile doesn't spend only one day celebrating its independence. It is celebrated for at least two days, September 18th and 19th.
These two official days are referred to as Dieciocho("eighteen, " pronounced dee-cee-oh-cho)because they start on the 18th. September 19th is celebrated as the Day of the Glory of the Armies. It marks the victory of winning the Spanish army in wars. It is also time to celebrate the end of winter, which in Chile appears during July and August, and the coming of summer, which begins in December. Sometimes 26 festivities might go on for an entire week, and many schools and businesses close for that week so people can travel and celebrate with their families.
How is Fiesta s Patria s celebrated? There are parades, music and dancing, lots of amazing food and drink, and many partics. Most of all, it is a time for Chilcans to cclebrate their culture and customs. Many men and women dress in traditional Chilean outfits.
Many small towns and cities begin their celebrations with traditional parties called fondas. These fondas feature live cueca music and dancing. Cueca is a type of music from Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia, and is played with guitars, accordions, percussion, and guitarrons (a large bass gutar) La Cueca is Chile's national dance It is one of the most important parts of celebrating Fiesta s Patrias. Everyone can learn the dance quickly. They work in pairs and mimic(模仿) the courting dance of a rooster and a hen. The partners hold hands using a cloth, and they stomp(跺脚)and circle cach other. Couples often compete to sc e who is the best cueca dancer.
Dicciocho is a great time to visit the country and experience Chilean culture, food, and fun. Just make sure to bring your dancing shoes and your appetite.
Just outside a village, there was a pretty but small Fir tree. He lived in a very beautiful forest with a lot of sunshine and fresh air. However, he didn't care about that, and always wished for something more interesting instead of enjoying the simple things in his life.
One day, the largest trees were cut down. They would be made into masts. The Fir tree thought happily, "I want to be a mast. It seems so cool. "
The air and the sunshine heard the tree and said, "Don't wish for another life. Be happy now. You have warm sunlight. You have a health y trunk. "But the tree did not understand them.
This year, some young trees were cut down. They would live in a warm room and were decorated(装饰) with so many colors and lights. The Fir tree was very interested in this and really wanted to be like that.
Again, the sunlight and the air said to the tree, "Do not be so silly. Your life in the forest is the best. Be happy with that. "But the tree didn't listen to them.
Finally, the woodcutters came to cut down the Fir tree and put him into a large room.
On Christmas Day, many servants came in. They decorated the tree. On its top, there was a large golden star. Later, all people came in and sang Christmas carols together. The tree enjoyed watching all of this.
"This is all for me!"thought the tree, "I will live my life in this warm room. The sunlight and the air were all wrong. "He felt very good about his future.
However, the next morning, some servants came into the room. They put him into a dark room. He was forgotten.
As many lonely nights passed, the door to that dark room finally opened. Two servants came in and took the tree outside.
"This is wonderful. "thought the tree. "My new life is beginning. "He relaxed in the sunlight. Just then, he discovered something terrible. His branches were all yellow. They were weak.
At that time. Some children were running around the garden They cned, "Look! The Christmas true is old and ugly. But it still has the yellow star on top of it. "One of the children took the star from the tree. Now, there was nothing beautiful about the tree anymore.
Soon, a gardener came with an axe. He chopped the poor Fir tree into pieces. Then, he placed each piece into a fire. The poor tree burned in the flames. As he burned, he could see the children playing. They were playing with his golden star. But it was too late for regrets now.
"This really is the end, "thought the tree.
Children play hopscotch(跳房子) in Bolivia, a country in South America. Players don't write a number in each box, but write each day of the week in their own language. For example, "lunes"means Monday. First, throw a stone into the first box. Hop over it into the second box. Next, kick the stone backwards and out of the pattern. Then, hop out. On your next turn, throw the stone into the next space, and so on. The first player to hop all the way through wins.
Children play Pele on the island of Aruba with a coin. Throw the coin into the first box and hop into Box 2. Next, hop up to the top boxes 6 and 7 and turn around. Then, come back to Box 2, and pick up the puck in Box 1. Hop over Box 1 and out of the pattern. Next, throw the coin into Box 2 and start again. If you make a mistake, you lose your turn. The first player to hop through all boxes wins.
Children in England and Scotland play this game with a stone. Throw the stone into Box 1. Hop over Box 1 and hop up to the top Box 10. On the way back, hop into Box 1, pick up the stone, and hop out. Then, throw the stone into Box 2, and so on. If your stone enters the wrong box, start over! The first player who throws the stone into each box and hops through the whole pattern wins.
In this Chinese style of hopscotch, at the top is the pig's head. Throw a stone into the pig's head and hop through each box. When you reach boxes 7 and 8. turn round and round quickly and pick up the stone from behind. If you hop through each box without making a mistake, choose a box and write your name in it.
