My name is Carol Brown. I am a middle school student. I have some 1 at school and at home. And I think every student has school rules and family rules.
We can't get to school late. We have to finish our homework first 2 we can go out and play. We can't stay out 3 school nights. We have to be 4 in the library. Do you have these rules?
Some students think these rules are 5 , and they don't like them. But I don't think so. I think these rules can help us a lot. If we don't follow 6 , how can we be good at our study? For example, our teachers 7 us to clean our classroom every day. If we don't, the classroom will be very dirty. It is bad for our health, too. If you make mistakes, you will get a detention. You may have to do some work for school. A detention is the most painful. You have to do a lot of tiring and boring things. There are rules for students out of school as well. Boys should not buy take away food in the street if they wear the school uniforms. The school also expects good behavior on public transport and in public places.

I'm a helpless mother. My son Tom is 15 years old. I find that the older he grows, the less we talk. I feel very sad and I really need help.
My first problem is about his hobbies. He spends almost all his spare time on computer games. When he gets home, he always turns on the computer and closes the door. I'm getting worried about him, especially when his English teacher tells me he always gets low marks in the English exams.
Second, he likes new technology, but I don't have enough money and I can't afford all the things he wants.

A helpless mother
When people are driving, they like listening to music on the radio in the car. Music makes the ride interesting.

Schools in different countries have different rules. Some of them are very special (特殊的). Let's take a look at them.
Japan: Most students in Japan have to wear uniforms like sports suits and skirts. They even regulate (规定) the color of girls' underwear. They also ask girls to wear their white socks in a certain way and boys to have the same hairstyle (发型). And in many Japanese schools, students can't go to the cinema, leave home in the evening or play video games.
The US: In some schools, students must wear indoor shoes every day. So they won't fall down. Also they won't dirty the schools. Students can't chew gum (嚼口香糖), because it's not easy to clean. And if students chew gum in class, they may not focus on their study.
France: Students in France can have their own mobile phones, but they mustn't use them at school.
