June came and the hottest month of the year began. A lot of travelers came to the city by the sea. All of the hotels were full except Mr. Johnson's. The prices of all the rooms were the lowest in the city but few people stayed there. The fire broke out three times in a year and four travelers died in the accidents. Most workers left there and found jobs in other hotels. Mr. Johnson had to do most work himself.

    It was eleven o'clock. Most rooms were still empty. Mr. Johnson worked for the whole day and was very tired. He went to close the gate when a young man came in, with a big bag in his hand.

    "What can I do for you, sir?" asked Mr. Johnson.

    "The cheapest room in your hotel."

    "OK," said Mr. Johnson, "but it's on the top floor."

    "It doesn't matter. I think you have a lift in your hotel."

    "Of course, sir," said the manager. "It'll take you right there. By the way, may I keep your bag for you?"

    "No, thanks. There's nothing expensive in it but a long rope."

    Oh? What do you bring it with you for?"

    "I'm afraid another fire will happen in your hotel. If it does, I'll throw the rope out of the window so that I'll be able to escape from (逃脱) it."

    "Yes?" Mr. Johnson said in surprise. "So you have to pay for the bill before you go to your room."

    Do you want to be ill or healthy? Try to do the flowing things! You can become stronger. Drink eight cups of water every day. Water helps your bodymany ways. If you feel, just have a cup of water.

    Don't forget to eat your breakfast. Breakfastyou everything your body needs for the morning,do not forget your breakfast.

    Get enough calcium. Your bones need. Milk has more calcium. You can alsosoya milk for calcium.

    Go for a walk every day after meals. Walking is good exercise, and people need exercisegood health. It's better to walk after meals.

    Stretch for five minutes after sitting for one or two hours. Stretching your arms and legsgood for your body.

    Use your brain every day. For example, you can do puzzlesread a new book.

    Have a rest for about twenty minutes when you are tired. You may do something different to havebreak. For example, stand up and walk. Or sit down to listen to music.

    Patrick and Grant are best friends.  But one day, the two boys stopped 1 to each other.

    When they were walking home from school that day, they talked about their homework. Grant wanted his friend to do it for him, so he could spend more time 2basketball.

    "No way! I can't help you like that, '' said Patrick.  "We must know what things in life are 3 to us."

    Fat, salt and sugar make foods taste good. 3 too much of a good thing can be bad for you. That's  4 food scientists strongly believe that healthy eating is important. They want to help children and parents choose 5 foods. Most parents agree with the scientists. They hope schools will 6 the responsibility (责任) of keeping kids healthy and strong.

    So, many schools ask their dining halls to sell both healthy and tasty lunches. They hope that the dining halls 7 serve natural foods. August Wilson was a famous American writer. He left school in the ninth grade. In the late 1960s, Wilson built a theater and began to think of ways to make people know more about African-American life. He had the idea of a series of(系列) plays. Each of the plays showed how African-Americans lived.

The first play of this series was Mu Ruiney's Black Bottom about black musicians in Chicago in the 1920s. Other plays in the scribes like Joe Turner's Come and Gone, were about the blacks in the 1910s Fences , which was about a father and his son in the 1950s and The Piano' Lesson, was about how a family sold their treasure(珠宝) in the 1930s. For the last two of these plays Wilson got Pulitzer Prizes.

King Hedley the Second, the eighth and the last play of the scribes, set in the 1980s. Both the blacks and the whites like his plays now and his plays attract anyone who is interested in African-American life.

    Groups: Two programs for you to choose. Each group needs at most 15 students.

    Program cost: $ 200 for members; $ 230 for non-members.
