On Saturdays and Sundays, people usually need to do some shopping. Some people go to shops or stores; some go to the supermarkets. In America, many people enjoy shopping in the shopping malls. A mall has a lot of different kinds of shops in it. There you can buy clothes, tables, and everything you need. American people like driving to malls, so many shopping malls have big parking lots. Usually, the mall is in a building, so people do not need to worry about the sun or the rain.
After shopping, you may get tired. You can walk into a coffee bar for a short rest. There are also many different restaurants in the mall and you can have a good meal. Now more and more Americans like to go shopping there.
Many years ago there was an old woman. She had no children because she did not like children at all. But she loved cats. She had mother cats and baby cats. She had black cats and white cats. The children in the neighbourhood came to her house to play with the cats. More and more cats came to the old woman's house. There were too many cats in the old woman's house. The old woman couldn't feed them all. Then she had an idea (主意). "The children love my cats," she thought. So she gave each child a cat. Then she was very happy. And the children were very happy too. And the cats were pleased too, because they each had a room.
When you wave to a friend, you are using body language. When you smile at someone, you mean to be friendly. When you put one finger in front of your mouth, you mean "be quiet". Yet, people in different countries may use different body languages.
Once, an Englishman was in Italy. He could speak little Italian. One day while he was walking in the street, he felt hungry and went into a restaurant. When the waiter came, the Englishman opened his mouth, put his fingers into it and took them out again and moved his lips. In this way, he meant to say, "Bring me something to eat." But the waiter brought him a lot of things to drink, first tea, then coffee, then milk, but no food.
The Englishman was sorry that he was not able to tell the waiter he was hungry. He was ready to leave the restaurant when another man came in. The man put his hands on his stomach, and this body language was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him a large plate of bread and meat.
Finally the Englishman had his meal in the same way.
A few years ago, my husband and I were on an island for a long weekend with our two daughters. As we wondered about what (do) next, our girls jumped in and told us exactly what they wanted to do." We want to go to the butterfly museum," said Ariela and Eliana.
