One January morning, the captain got up early and walked down to the beach. It was a cold winter's day with the sun still low in the sky. My mother was upstairs with my father, who was now very ill. That year the winter was long and hard, and we knew my father would not see another spring.

    I was getting the table ready for the captain's breakfast. Suddenly, the door of the inn (客栈) opened and a man stepped inside. I had never seen him before. He wore a short sword (剑) by his side and I found he had only three fingers on his left hand.

    I asked him what he wanted and he said: “I'll take a glass of rum (朗姆酒)”But before I could get it, he told me to come near him. "Is this table for my old friend Bill? " the stranger asked, with a terrible smile.

    I told him I did not know his friend Bill and the break fast was for a man who was staying at the inn. "We call him the captain."

     “Does he have a sword cut on his face.”

    "Yes" I said

     “That's Bill,” said the stranger. “Is he here?”

    I told him the captain was out walking, and the man waited, like a cat waiting for a mouse. I did not like the look on his face and was sure the captain would not be pleased to see him.

    When the captain came back, the man pulled me behind the door. The captain opened the door and walked across the room.

     “Bill” said the stranger.

    The captain turned quickly and saw us. The color went from his face and he looked old and sick. "Black Dog! " he said. He looked at the stranger. “And what do you want?”

    "I'll have a glass of rum, "said Black Dog, "then you and I'll sit and talk like old friends.”

    I got the rum and they told me to go away. I went out of the room, but the voices became louder.

    Once upon a time all feelings went to an island for a vacation, and each was having a good time. Suddenly, a warning of a strong storm was announced, so all rushed to their boats. Yet, Love did not wish to run away quickly. There was so much to do. But as the clouds darkened, Love realized it was time to leave. But there were no boats to use. Love looked around with hope．

    Just then Richness was passing by Love in a large boat. Love shouted, "Richness, can you take me with you " Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

    Love decided to ask Vanity(虚荣) who was also passing by in a beautiful boat for help. But Vanity said with a cold voice, "No, I can't take you with me. My boat will get dirty with your muddy (泥泞的) feet."

    Sorrow passed by after some time. Again, Love asked for help. But it was useless. "No, I can't take you with me. I am so sad. I want to be by myself."

    When Happiness passed by a few minutes later, Love again called for help. But Happiness was so happy that it hardly cared about anyone else.

    Love was growing worried and hopeless. Just then somebody called out, "Come, Love, I will take you with me," Love did not know who was being so kind, but jumped onto the boat happily．

    After getting off the boat, Love met Knowledge. Love asked, "Knowledge, do you know who was so kind to give me a lift when no one else wished to help?"

    Knowledge smiled, "Oh, that was Time."

    "Time?" asked Love." But why did Time help me?"

    Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered," Because only Time is able to understand how valuable (有价值的) Love is."

    I have a classmate called Li Ting. She is the only child in her family like me. Her parents love her so much that they don't let her do any chores. One day. her father was badly ill and had an operation (手术) in the hospital. Her mother had to take care of her father in the hospital and couldn't cook the dishes for Li Ting for a week.
