An old man lived alone in a village and was in poor health. He was one of the 1people in the world. The whole village was tired of him because he was always unhappy. When people tried to 2 the old man, he would rudely turn them away.

Science Week is coming!

From June I to June 5

    We are all excited about the coming Science Week. We will have the chance to take part in activities and competitions every school day. Lectures (讲座) of different topics will also be given by different speakers.

    Back in 2008, American photographer Rose-Lynn Fisher was going through a hard time in her life, so she often cried. One day, she didn't brush her tears(眼泪)away. She put one tear under a microscope (显微镜), wondering what her tear would look like.

    She was amazed by what she saw. "It was really interesting, "she told the Telegraph. "It was almost as if I was looking down at a landscape from a plane. "It was such an amazing discovery!

    So she started thinking about a question: would a tear of grief(悲伤)look any different than a tear of joy? What about a tear from cutting an onion?

    She collected 100 samples(样本)of tears caused by different things and put them all under a microscope. She was surprised to find that their appearance was changed by what had made people cry.

    She thinks that this might be because of the different hormones(荷尔蒙)in the tears. The hormones may change their molecular（分子的）structures.

    Then she wanted to know if men's tears are different from women's tears. She was also surprised by what showed up in the photographs of microscopic tears.

    It was not a controlled scientific study, so there were many factors that could influence the resulting images. However, what she found was already something impressive.

    The virus(病毒) might have stopped Chinese students from going back to school. But it hasn't stopped them from learning. Do you know how to learn better online at home? Here is some advice from different students.

    ★Keep connected(连接的)

    To me, the biggest headache about studying online is my poor Internet connection. During one online class, I couldn't hear my English teacher and I had to connect again. It took lots of time. Since then, I have checked my connection before class every day and asked my family members not to use the Internet while I'm in class.

    During the first day of studying online, I was excited and listened carefully. But soon I found that my teacher had no idea what I was doing at home so I could hardly control myself.     ★Find the right classes

    I think finding the right classes are the most important when studying online. For example, I had difficulty understanding some English grammar points, so I searched on the Internet and watched several videos from teachers across China. It's good for us to get different teachers.

    Once upon a time, there was a young farmer who planted an area of rice. After he planted the seedlings(幼苗), every day he went to the field to watch the seedlings grow. He hoped the plants would grow fast because he wanted to have a great harvest(丰收) soon. But one month later, he only saw the young shoots(发芽) break through the earth and after that, they grew a little taller each day, but still, he thought they were growing too slowly and got excited with the young plants. His neighbors knew his trouble and told him the plants would grow according to their growth rules. But the young man didn't think so. Then one morning he came up with a fantastic idea-one by one, he pulled up the young plants by half an inch(英寸). He did the work from half past seven in the morning till eight at night, feeling tired but happy. The next early morning, the young man couldn't wait to check his "great work", but when he saw the plants, he cried his heart out.

    On a street in Nanjing, many people    (停止) in front of a chalk drawing of Dr. Zhong Nanshan. They couldn't help showing surprise. Cong Langui, the artist, sat on the ground and smiled     (甜蜜地).

    For more than    (二十) years, Cong has been drawing on city streets. But this artist is unusual not just because of his chosen “canvas (画布).” When he was 16 years old, Cong lost his left leg because of an    (疾病). With only one leg, life has been hard for Cong, but he has always tried to be brave. He taught    (他自己) to draw by reading books and watching videos.    (从┈┈以来) then, he has gone on to draw art pieces on the streets of many different Chinese (省份).

    Each street drawing takes about six hours to finish. Every now and then, Cong would stand up tocheck his work faraway. He always wants to make it    (完美的). Cong says this is his way of making the city more beautiful.

    We often hear people say that life is    (不公平的). But Cong, a one-legged artist, has never said anything or    (争论) about anything. So next time you want to complain about life, think of Cong.

    Joseph is a teacher in New York. He gives lessons to (he) students about American history. But he was born Kenya, an African country where the children have a very different life. For example, a ten-year-old boy may spend (much) time taking care of cows than studying at school. The children also learn many (skill) like how to live in the wild.

    Unlike many other children, Joseph went to school. And (luck), when he was 15, he came (study) in America and then became a teacher. Joseph has write book called facing the Lion. In the book, he talks about his childhood. He thinks is very important for American children to learn about the cultural differences between their country others.     Artist for the Animals

    Twelve-year-old Bria Neff loves art and animals. So she puts the two together by painting pictures of animals that are endangered. With her mom's help, she sells the paintings to raise money for groups that protect animals and their living places. We asked Bria about her work.

    When I was eight, I joined in an art competition run by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. I found out that there are thousands of endangered animals, and I wanted to help. Since I love to draw, I thought I could use my talents to introduce endangered animals.

    I paint animals that really touch me. I research them and read about them and study their living habits. Sometimes, after researching them, I put their names into a box and just pick one to paint.

    I complete a painting in one to two weeks. I start by looking up lots of pictures of the animal in its living places. That gives me great ideas.

    Knowing that I'm making a difference for animals and their living places and that I have encouraged others to do the same.

    I want to tell them that it doesn't matter how old you are. Do something you love, and you can make a difference. We just need to work together and believe we can do great things.
