A mother's love is the greatest power in the world. The tiny things they do will make you realize what special people they are.
It was a 1 January day. When I left home for the office, the weather report said, "Windy and cold, but no rain." 2, by the time I was about to leave work in the early evening, it was totally 3!
My office was close to the bus stop, so I just 4 out of the door and onto the bus. Unluckily, when I got off, I still had about a mile to
5 to my home. As I stepped off the bus to walk home, I tried my best to get my 6 umbrella to go up in the strong wind. Then, suddenly and to my 7, I heard my mum's voice. "Quickly! Come under here!"
I rushed under my bigger 8 and stared at Mum. "What on earth are you doing here in such 9?" I asked her. My mum was eighty-three that year, and although fit and healthy, she didn't like going out 10 strong wind and heavy rain.
"You told me to come round for dinner tonight, but I came 11 before the rain got too heavy. I saw your big umbrella lying on the chair. I 12 you had forgotten it, so I just picked it up and came out to meet you."
My mum passed away the following year. This simple 13 remains in my mind, and reminds me how completely my mum 14 me. She wouldn't have gone out in the wind and rain for herself, but, at eighty-three, she worried about whether I would get 15 or not.
When your pen is broken, the battery in your toy runs out, or you have some leftover food, what do you do with these things? You will probably throw them all into one trashbin. But actually, all of these pieces of trash need to be sorted (分类) separately.
Garbage sorting is a big problem worldwide. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it.
Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a "green account (账户)" service for its residents (居民). Account holders get points by correctly sorting their garbage. Through the Alipay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone cards and other products. The city is asking all of its residents to sort their garbage into four groups: wet, recyclable (可回收的), harmful and dry.
Wet waste is also known as household waste. "They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat," Guangzhou Daily explained.
Paper, metal (金属), glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.
Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs (荧光灯泡).
Finally, any waste that's not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the "dry waste" bin.
Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that they must study.
China is improving its waste-sorting efforts. There is still a long way to go. But it's never too late to learn how to sort your trash properly and protect the environment.
If you don't sort your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill (垃圾填埋场) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and water. Other pieces of garbage, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.
A road is a bridge between two places. The Silk Road has been there between East and West for more than 2,000 years.
But did you know that the Silk Road is not a single route? It is actually a series of trade and cultural transmission(传送) routes. It started to take shape during the Western Han Dynasty. The trade route started from the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province and ended in eastern Europe, near today's Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea. The Silk Road was about 6,500 kilometers long. It went across one-fourth of the earth.
The Silk Road got its name because Chinese silk used to be carried along this road. Besides silk, jade (玉), tea and steel also went west to Rome. From the West came glass, gems (宝石), and foods like carrots and sesame.
The Silk Road was very important to both China and the rest of the world. Not only trade, but also knowledge about science, arts and literature, as well as craftsmanship and technology, was shared across the Silk Road. In this way, languages and cultures developed and influenced each other.
Today, many historical sites along the Silk Road are popular travel destinations, such as the Terracotta Warriors (兵马俑) in Xi'an and Mogao Grottoes (莫高窟) in Dunhuang. A new train line, the New Orient Express, is running from Beijing across the Silk Road.
As he walked out of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, he looked like a normal repairman. But what he carried was very unusual. Under his jacket, Vincenzo Perugia was carrying Mona Lisa, one of the most famous paintings in the world. And he was stealing it!
It sounds difficult to believe, but it's a true story. On August 20, 1911, Perugia went into the museum and hid. He waited 15 hours until the next morning. On the day of the crime, the museum was closed for repairs. Perugia walked out into the museum wearing the same kind of clothes as the other repairmen. No one paid attention to him as he walked out the door.
Police looked all over the world—Russia, Japan, and Brazil. They even interviewed Perugia, but they let him go! Police continued to look for the painting. Two years passed before Perugia brought Mona Lisa to a man in Florence, Italy, who dealt in art. Florence is the city where Leonardo da Vinci painted Mona Lisa. Unfortunately for Perugia, the art dealer called the police, who arrested(逮捕) him.
Perugia said he wanted to return Mona Lisa to its "real" home. The police believed he wanted to sell copies of the painting and keep the original for himself. To this day, nobody really knows why he did it.
a. The police looked for Mona Lisa for 2 years. b. Perugia walked out the Louvre Museum.
c. Perugia took the painting to an art dealer. d. Perugia went into the museum and hid.
The name of our galaxy(星系), the Milky Way, comes from its appearance. It's a milky white band of glowing light that spreads across the night sky. If you look up at the evening sky, there's a good chance you will not be able to see what your grandmother saw when she was a little girl. A new study says that nearly 80 percent of people in North America can't see the Milky Way because of light pollution.
The most light-polluted country in the world is Singapore where researchers found that people living in the country never have the chance to experience true darkness. Other countries with large percentages of people living under such skies include Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
Too much light has a direct influence on human physiology and behavior. It can also destroy our sleep cycle. What's more, it also influences wildlife. For example, baby turtles may not swim into the ocean because of street lights near shorelines.
In the U.S., some communities have been taking action on light pollution but in developing countries, people still want to make bigger, brighter light, like LED lights. They can save energy, but on the other hand, they will increase light pollution rapidly in fact.
There are still people that can remember when they used to be able to see the Milky Way, when they would walk outside at night, but those are becoming fewer and fewer.
Nighttime natural scenery needs protection just like daytime scenery. Don't let the light pollution steal the chance to experience the wonder of a natural night sky from us.
A. Arguments are useless.
B. Parents help us grow better.
C. Everyone's opinion counts.
D. Learn to control our emotions.
E. Deal with the bad situation better.
There always comes a moment
when I wonder where I will end up and this moment always gives me a life
lesson. These are the lessons that I wish I'd learned earlier:
There was a time when everyone's
opinion was mine as well. Remember that your opinion matters just as much as
the next guy's, whether they make more money than you or are less popular than
you. Everyone's opinion holds the same weight.
When I was a teenager, I'd be angry
and go crazy if I had heard someone said bad things behind my back. Looking
back on those memories now, I'm not too surprised. After all, when you have
little self-control, anything is possible.
Will one small quarrel among friends
decide the development of the friendship? In my world it felt like it. I just
wanted so much to be right and for them so much to be wrong. It only resulted
in me wasting my time and in the other person storming off in frustration.
I'm not saying every parent knows
what's the best for kids, but in general, parents do what they do to help us
know how to look after ourselves. My parents used to make me do the dishes,
cook dinner, sweep the floors, take out the garbage…Now I can take better care of
myself.
Whenever I'd lose a friend, get an
awful grade, or disappoint my parents, I feel terrible. Fortunately, I know now
that we don't have to be stuck in bad situations. We can go out and create
better ones. It all depends on how you see the situation.

Dear Xia Yu,
Do you know that there are two special days for parents in America? One is Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May, and the other is Father's Day on the Sunday of June. On these two days, children often give gifts to their parents or take for lunch or dinner. Common gifts are flowers and cards for mothers and shirts or ties for fathers. I heard that it is more and more popular to celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day in China. I wonder if children over there also give similar gifts to their parents. I believe that there are many ways to show our love. Actually, we don't have to spend a lot of money. It is also a good idea to help parents something instead.

Henry found a job in a bookstore after graduating from the middle school. He wanted to get rich he didn't want to do anything.

"Cover the ear your hand and listen to me with your deaf one. Well, can you hear me?"
"No, I can't, sir."
"You are telling lies(谎). There is (something) wrong with either of your ears." The judge said.
