Mr. Brown had an umbrella shop in a small town. People sometimes {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(bring) him broken umbrellas, and then he took {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(they) to a big shop in London. They were mended there.

One day Mr. Brown went to London by train. He forgot {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(take) an umbrella with him that day. Sitting in front of him was a man with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} umbrella standing beside the seat. When the train arrived in London, Mr. Brown picked {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the umbrella as he often did during his journey by train. Just as he was getting off, he {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop) by the man. He said {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(angry), "That's mine!" Mr. Brown' s face turned red and he gave {#blank#}8{#/blank#} back to the man at once.

When Mr. Brown got to the big shop, the shopkeeper had got his six umbrellas ready. After a good look at each of them, he said, "You've mended them very well."

In the afternoon he got into the train again. The{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(similar)man was in the same seat. He looked at Mr. Brown and his six umbrellas, "You've had a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(luck)day," he said.

I was getting more excited as we got off the train at beautiful Grand Central Station. After a tour at the Museum of Modern Art, we1 Radio City Music Hall and the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. In one of the 2 in the area, I found a tiny boxed set of Peter Rabbit books, perfect for my 3 . Was there anything like Christmas in New York? Having experienced an exciting and tiring tour, we called a  4   back to Grand Central Station.

On the way home I realized that my handbag was gone—lost or 5  , I had no idea. All the magic of this special day  6  . I glumly(闷闷不乐地) imagined a crowded Department of Motor Vehicles and all the phone calls that I'd have to make to get my  7   cards replaced with new ones. And I'd never 8  all those precious photos to my daughters.

The days slipped by while I got rides to college and  9 going to the DMV( 车 管 所 ) at such a busy time of year. Then I got an unexpected 10 , a box with the return address of Radio City Music Hall.  11  , I opened it and shouted in a joyful  12   .

There was my old handbag, with everything 13  good inside—license, cards and photos—and one thing that hadn't been there  14  , a handwritten note, saying, "I found this handbag lying under the seat of my taxi by  15   . Merry Christmas!"

The automobile industry is spending billions on self-driving cars, but what if we quite like driving? 

One holiday a few years ago, I spent hours being transported on trains, buses and planes. I read a novel for a while, then stared out the window, in a black mood. I was turned into goods, being shifted from one location to another. Then, finally, came the exciting section of the holiday when I hired a car.

My wife Jocasta and I followed the positioning system, turning right, then right again, and found ourselves in a small town. I spoke to the positioning system, "We don't want to be here; we want the highway." Then it instructed me to turn right again and again. With every turn, the street narrowed. The walls were so close that I had to hold my breath.

Another car appeared, coming towards us from the opposite direction. The driver signaled, telling me I had to make way. But how? I didn't have the courage to back up along the impossibly narrow passage. Soon some locals came to help. One lady stood at the back of the vehicle, waving me on. She continued making "this way, this way" movements with her arms. In an act of blind trust, instructions, creeping (小心行进) backwards and forwards. Remarkably, it worked. I completed my turn into the side street. The other car passed and the driver gave me a grateful wave. Then I followed the lady's suggestion and—finally—saw the highway.

My hands were shaking. I breathed in and out. Jocasta turned to me. "You're my hero, "she said. I looked at her, expecting a shadow of a teasing (嘲笑的) smile, but can find none. "You're my hero," she repeated. "I mean it. You did a really good job." Finally, I managed to steady my nerves. Then we set off again and the car sped smoothly away. Who would exchange all this for a self-driving car? 

Last year I moved to a new city with my husband and daughter. So during the first months we were busy getting 1 . This place is very different from where I lived before and we had a lot of 2 .

Then things were running 3 due to our efforts. So we decided to conduct a small ceremony at home in 4 of our success in adjusting to the new life. After the simple ceremony, we still had some food 5 . Our daughter suggested that she go with her father and look for someone who 6 all these food.

Hearing the 7 of my daughter, my husband offered to take her in his car to the nearby areas. But after a long time, they 8 to find a suitable one. They were about to return home suddenly when my daughter 9 an old man sitting under a tree. He looked 10 , tired and anxious.

My husband stopped the car and my daughter 11 the man and handed him the food packets. The surprised person looked at my daughter and asked if those item s were for him. When he listened to the 12 answer, he smiled, thanked my daughter a lot and started eating. After a short chat with the man, they went back home happily. The 13 on my daughter's face made me feel 14 a hungry human was a correct thing. It added to our happiness — I had the 15 to conduct an act of kindness.

In 2009, Kevin Pearce was at the height of his professional snowboarding career and bound for the Winter Olympics. But in an instant, it came to an end. During training, he struck his head on the edge of a pipe, resulting in a traumatic (创伤的) brain injury. It changed the course of the then-22-year-old's life.

He had to relearn how to walk and talk and essentially start over. His older brother Adam quit his job and moved across the country to help him through rehab.

He eventually started doing yoga, and his family saw how it transformed him and gave him a sense of hope: "It was the first time I remember so clearly coming out of a class with him and just seeing in his face this new expression, this new person." Adam Pearce said, "We were like, ‘We need to figure out why and how that just happened.'"

Wanting to bring hope and healing to others through yoga and meditation (冥想). Adain and Kevin co-founded the Love YourBrain Foundation in 2014. The nonprofit offers week-long meditations and community-based yoga classes across the United States for people who are living with long-term brain-related disabilities. "I think people feel isolated after brain injury because they don't feel able, and when you don't feel able, you generally retreat back inside." Adam said, "At these retreats, people are given the space to lean into those deep challenges and express them and talk about them."

Ultimately, the organization aims to create a safe space and supportive community where people with brain-related disabilities can heal together. "Connection happens quickly because there's such a shared common understanding among the group." Adam said. "Once someone sees someone be vulnerable, it instantly allows the next person (to be). By the end, people start to see vulnerability as a superpower."

"It's over! Thank goodness!" school was 1 and I was tired. I 2 at the front of the school bus.

Janie, the driver, tries to 3 the uncomfortable atmosphere by striking the match of talks. I try to listen 4 , but usually I am too 5 thinking about my day. On this day, however, her talk was worth 6 .

"My father's ill ," she said to no one in particular (特别地). I could see worry in her 7 . I had never seen her like this before. She always meets students 8 a smile.

With a sudden change of interest, I asked, " what's wrong with him?"

With her eyes wet and her voice 9 , she answered, "Heart trouble." Her eyes lowered as she continued. "I've already 10 my mum, so I don't think I can stand losing him." I couldn't answer. My heart ached for her.

I sat on the 11 thinking of the great pain my own mother was thrown into when her father died. I saw how hard it was, and still is, for her. I wouldn't want to anyone to go through that.

Suddenly I realized Janie wasn't only a bus 12 , that was just her job. She had a whole world of family and cares 13 .

I suddenly 14 very selfish. I paid no attention to Janie because she was a bus driver. I had judged her by her job and brushed her off as unimportant.

I shouldn't have been so selfish and self-centered. 15 people is an art.
