When I was born, my doctor told my mother that there was something wrong with my 2 . They were too soft to be able to walk. Although the news was bad, my mother didn't become 3. She didn't believe what the doctor said 4 started to look for other ways.

My mother kept looking for 5 doctors for me, and finally she succeeded. The doctor and his team in the hospital tried many times and did 6 they could to help me. "I have examined your foot. I want two pounds13that. If people come to my house, I ask them to pay one pound for a small thing like that.14when I go to their houses, I usually charge (索价) two pounds. And I came here today, 15 I? Bye-bye!"

    David was ill. He went to see a doctor. The doctor asked him to1 his tongue (舌头), and then he said, “ OK. You can put your tongue back now. There's 2 wrong with you, but I'm afraid you have a problem, you never take 3.”

    “But, doctor,” David said, “I don't think so.”

    “Don't 4me what you think,” the doctor said, “I see a lot of people 5you. None of them get any exercise. They sit in offices all day and in front of the TV in the evening. You must walk quickly for at least 30 minutes a day.”

    “Doctor, you don't understand, ”David said, “ I take enough exercise every day. ”

    “But I walk every day.” David said.

    “Oh, yes, and I know what kind of walking that is. You walk9meters to the bus stop from your house, from the bus stop to your office, and from your office to your dining-room for lunch and back. That's not a real walk. I'm talking about a walk by the lake or in the park for 30 minutes every day. ”

    “Would you please 10 me, doctor?” David said, “I'm a postman. I walk for nearly seven hours every day.”

    For a moment the doctor was silent, then he said,“Can I see your tongue again?”

    I don't like to stay at home during holidays. Last summer, my family took a 1to Hong Kong. It 2an interesting trip.

    We went there by plane, because we wanted to get there quickly. We3 there at about eleven o'clock and we had lunch there. We ate the seafood. It was delicious. The weather was sunny and 4 so we swam in the sea. There were 5people on the beach.

    I enjoyed the trip. It was really a fantastic trip.

    When I was eight years old, my mother told me to put my coat on because we were going to go somewhere1. Usually, that meant we were going to see someone important. I would at least get a new toy. I asked which one it would be that day, and she told me that I would get something 2than a toy. She said I would get "access（通道）to a world of toys." I had no real idea what she meant. Did that mean we were buying a toy 3?

    But we did not end up at any toy store. Neither did we finally see anyone we knew.

"What kind of books do you like to read?" he asked. I was too shy to 8. I only smiled. "Well, you'll find it out in time," he said. I do not remember9I picked out that day, but I know that in the years that followed I read through books on history, books of poetry, and books about art. The library opened up a world that I 10knew that day.

    So my mother was right. Getting a library card was like getting the access to a world of toys.
