新疆生产建设兵团第二中学2018-2019学年高二上学期英语第一次月考试卷
Time is on your side
How frequently do you say "I don't have time"? Quite often, I guess. Every time we say those words, they make us feel weak and out of control. You are in control of your hours and your life.
I don't as easy as simply turning off the TV. But here are two steps that will help you take back control and get time on your side.
Be honest: do you Spend an hour or two visiting Weixin and QQ every day? Are you spending time with people that you don't really like just to please them? Are there meetings you attend that you can politely refuse?
It's time to get real about the hours that add up to a lot of dissatisfying nothing. Think how you can cancel daily activities that are not useful.
Change your language.
Words matter. They have power. Saying "I don't have time" is an excuse for not wanting to do something. Here are some good, empowering alternatives (选择):
"I choose not to start that project until next year."
""
"I'd love to go out this weekend but have important work I need to do first."
Get better at saying no. Use little pockets of time (friend running late, car stuck in traffic, meeting ending 10 minutes early) to do some productive thinking. All these things can add up over time more than you believe!
A. Identify your blocks.
B. But you are likely wasting a lot of it!
C. I really don't have enough time to do it.
D. Replace them with things that satisfy you.
E. Take no notice of all those unimportant messages on your phone.
F. I'd love to read that book — I'll get to it after my homework is complete!
G. When you don^ have a plan for your life, someone else will plan it for you.
Starting a club of some kind at school can be difficult. But with a good idea, some active friends, and the right knowledge, you can pull it off. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.
Decide whether you really want to start a club. Once you have strong enough support from your friends and fellow students, you're ready to go.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Find an advisor for your club. Pick someone who will help you organize events for your club.
Find a place. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you want to do this, talk to your headteacher to apply (申请) for a classroom.
Decide when to meet. Decide how often your club should meet, and then pick a convenient time and day when most club members will be free.
Advertise your club at school. Make bright, colorful informative posters (海报) that will attract attention. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.
Plan volunteering events. You can decide on events yourself, or hold a meeting to get your club's opinion. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
Have fun. What's the point of having a club if it's no fun? Don't take yourself too seriously and be sure to have a sense of humor.
A. Get support. B. Read on to learn how. C. Know the purpose of setting up a club. D. Most clubs meet in classrooms after school. E. Professors from other schools can be invited to deliver a lecture. F. Either way, be sure to hold fun events that everyone can take part in. G. You can also ask your headmaster if you can make a small presentation in public. |
Bees (蜜蜂) touch our lives in ways we may not realize. They are responsible for as much as one third of the food that we eat, and even play a role in growing the cotton (棉花) used in much of our clothing. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Here's how you can help:
1. Plant more flowers
Bees depend on garden flowers to ensure they have different kinds of diet. By planting flowers in your garden you can create a pleasant place for bees. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Another idea is to add hanging baskets of flowers next to your front door.
2. Find a space for a beehive (蜂窝) in your garden
Many would-be beekeepers find it difficult to find a safe space for their bees. If you have some space, contact your local beekeeping organization. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} You will be surprised what a difference a beehive will make to your garden.
3. Give bees water
{#blank#}4{#/blank#} They use water to produce food for their bee families and control the temperature in their hives. Bees look for a clean source of water. Leave out containers filled with clean water in your outdoor spaces and refresh them often.
4. Be bee friendly
Bees are good neighbors, and only sting (蜇) when they feel threatened. Beekeepers wear protective clothing when they are dealing with bees. If a bee flies in front of you when unprotected, do not flap (拍打) your hands. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} The bee will soon lose interest.
A. Stay calm and move slowly away. B. Fight the diseases that affect bees. C. They could find a beekeeper in need of a site. D. One way to help bees is to buy local produce. E. Like every living creature, bees need water to survive. F. But more than one quarter of the species is facing extinction. G. You don't even need a garden space to attract bees; your window box will do. |
