Best Way to Save Money

    Although the best way to save money can vary from person to person, depending on age, family size and other characteristics, there are still some easy things that all shoppers can do to keep more money in their bank accounts.

    Avoid impulse (冲动的) purchases.

    When you shop, a best way to save money is to have a plan in mind to help you avoid impulse purchases. And you only carry the exact amount of cash that you will need for your planned purchase. Some shoppers agree to discuss any purchases over a certain dollar amount with their spouses (配偶) first.

    Sometimes the best way to save money in the long term is to spend a little more money right now. A high-quality pair of shoes will last longer than a bargain pair and prevent foot pain. Leaner (瘦的) cuts of meat and organic produce provide health benefits for your family.

    Buy secondhand.

    Check classified ads, thrift stores and garage sales for used clothing, toys, furniture, and much more available at a part of their original cost. And there members offer unwanted items for free to anyone willing to pick them up.

    Borrow instead of buy.

    If you're only going to use something once, try to borrow it instead of spending your money on it. Borrow a tool from your neighbor. Check out the resources at your local library. You'll also be reducing disorder in your home.

A. Make things by yourself.

B. Exchange books with a friend.

C. Know when to pay for quality.

D. Refuse to buy things you can't use.

E. For instance, you might leave your credit cards at home.

F. A good piece of furniture can stay in the family for decades.

G. For the most secondhand savings, check out groups like Freecycle.

        A strong memory depends on the health and vitality (活力) of your brain. They say that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but when it comes to the brain, scientists have discovered that this old saying simply isn't true. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

      Give your brain a workout. Memory, like muscular strength, requires you to “use it or lose it”. The more you work out your brain, the better you'll be able to process and remember information.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

        Don't skip the physical exercise. While mental exercise is important forbrain health, that doesn't mean you never need to break a sweat. Physical exercise helps your brainstay sharp. It increases oxygen to your brain and reduces the risk for disorders that lead to memory loss.

        Get enough sleep. There is a big difference between the amount of sleep you can get by on and the amount you need to function at your best.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Keep stress in check. Stress is one of the brain's worst enemies. Over time, stress destroys braincells. Studies have also linked stress to memory loss.

        Have a laugh.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} That holds true for the brain and the memory, as well as the body. Unlike emotional responses, which are limited to specificareas of the brain, laughter engages multiple regions across the whole brain.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Just as the body needs fuel, so does the brain. You probably already know that a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, “healthy”fats and lean protein will provide lots of health benefits, but such a diet can also improve memory. For brain health, though, it's not just what you eat—it's also what you don't eat.

A. Eat a brain-boosting diet.

B. Play games with memory.

C. Laughter is the best medicine.

D. But oversleeping is not good for yourbrain.

E. Even skipping a few hours makes adifference!

F. You have to shake things up from timeto time!

G. The human brain has an astonishingability to adapt and change.

    When trying to make a successful career, which is better: being a generalist or a specialist? Inother words, should you generalize and know a little about a lot of things?{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Natasha Olinger, a human resource expert, talks about the benefits of both. She said Generally speaking, the common wisdom is that it's always better to specialize and then you can demand a higher salary.

    To explain her idea, linger uses a fairly commons situation-choosing a restaurant {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    If you go to a restaurant that only serves sushi, you can expect high quality products, and you also should expect to pay more. If you go to a place that serves sushi, tacos and pizza, the quality of the sushi may not be so great, but the prices will probably be lower. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} However, she adds that all is not perfect in the world of the specialist. If there is a drop in economy, a generalist may get more job offers.

Olinger suggests thinking about the size and type of business you would like to work for.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Also, companies that are just getting started often need people who are able to perform many different tasks. For example, your job description may be that of a graphic designer, but you may also have to do some writing. Larger companies can be just the opposite. They often need specialists-experts in a given field. But perhaps the best solution is a mix of generalization and specialization. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} The top of the T would be the generalized part. The upright stem of the T would be the deeper understanding of a person's general knowledge-their expertise

A. Or should we combine these two with each other?

B. Some career planners call this a "t-shaped" career.

C. Say you want to eat a favorite Japanese meal: sushi.

D Olinger says the world of work is not all that different.

E. Small businesses often need people who can do many things.

F. Olinger also warns that the world of work is more complex than this.

G Or should you specialize and have a deep understanding of only one area.

A travel journal is one of the best ways to keep a long voyage in memory. Many details that don't seem important while you are writing your travel journal often turn out to be so memorable.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. When you are on a busy journey, it is easy to forget to write. You may promise yourself that you will write later, but that almost never happens. Take a few minutes every day and put down your memories.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

Use your “down time” for your travel journal. There is a surprising amount of sitting around while traveling. You can always put down a few lines in your travel journal when you are on trains, waiting for planes, drying your laundry, or waiting in line.

At the beginning of your journal, write down the day, where you are, who you are with, maybe even the weather and what you eat. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Years later when you read your journal, you will know exactly what you were doing on that day.

Focus on writing about how you feel. Listing facts and figures is fine but that isn't why you traveled. A long journey is a time for self-reflection. Memories of these feelings fade quickly with time.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Whenever you use a ticket for a train or a museum or a ride, tape the stubs to your journal. They are pieces of history from your journey. Years later you can look at the ticket stubs and see exactly what you were doing on a specific day and how much it cost.

A. Keep ticket stubs.

B. Book your ticket in advance.

C. You'd better write down as much as possible.

D. These are the first details people tend to forget.

E. It doesn't have to be long, just on a regular basis.

F. Get into the habit of writing your travel journal every day.

G. Writing about those experiences while the memories are fresh is important.

Traditionally, businesses use name badges(胸卡) for security and personal identity; the whole look also contributed to brand identity. But the use of name badges has so much more to offer:

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Name badges complete the overall look of an employee. Businesses who carry out this practice show that they pay attention to detail, no matter how small, giving the staff a professional look. Customers are more comfortable dealing with someone who looks professional and well trained.

Name badges give employees identity. Name badges can make employees feel better about their jobs because they are not just nameless people. Name badges also promote a friendly environment, which leads to happier employees. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Furthermore, the knowledge of being easily identified also makes an employee perform better, lest(以免) they be reported for bad service.

Name badges promote communication. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} This allows for easier communication, and employees are able to assist customers better when they know exactly what the customer wants or needs. A name can certainly make a big difference, not just for overall customer experience, but for the business as well.

Name badges lend an air of familiarity. Customers are more comfortable when they know who they are speaking to or who is assisting them. Employees may also be required to find out the customer's name, all in the spirit of providing personalized service. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Name badges keep security in check. While name badges can keep businesses secure by identifying that the right people are where they should be, they also make customers feel secure by knowing who they are dealing with. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A.Name badges come in different colors and styles.

B.Name badges make employees look more professional.

C.Satisfied employees, in turn, deliver better customer service.

D.It's easier to talk to someone when you can address them by name.

E.In companies using name badges, the employees are more efficient.

F.Customers won't risk mistaking another customer for a member of the staff.

G.As a result, name badges make employees more approachable and business smoother.

 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

The easiest way to love yourself is to treat yourself like your own BFF (Best Friend Forever). {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Quite simply, this means you need to recognize your own self-worth and live your own life as honestly as you can. Read on to learn some strategies so you can embark on a journey of loving yourself.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Negative thoughts often come from outside people whose opinions we value and from whom we seek love and acceptance. Trace down the core of those negative thoughts and tell yourself a different story. Think about what you would say to a close friend who said those things about themselves.

Accept your flaws as part of who you are. Everything you've done and everywhere you've been is a part of who you are. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Instead, accept that they're all parts of the same whole. When you love yourself, you love all of you because you wouldn't have the good without the bad.

Focus on your effort rather than the result to control perfectionism. If you expect yourself to be perfect for ever, you'll never be pleased with anything you produce. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Try to appreciate the work you put into completing a task, rather than looking for flaws in what you done.

Practice gratitude for good things. Its human nature to see negative things as bigger and more important than positive things, but this also does tremendous damage to your self-esteem. When you find yourself focusing on negative or less favorable events in your life, immediately try to name 3 to 5 things that you can be grateful for. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. This can lead to low self-esteem.

B. Pay attention to negative thoughts.

C. Let go of negative thoughts about yourself.

D. Self-love isn't about fixing all the "bad" things about yourself.

E. Look for the positive side even when bad things happen to you.

F. Usually, it might seem like it's easier to love others than to love yourself.

G. Actually, it's tough to build healthy relationships if you don't love yourself first.
