I learned to do wood work when I was very young.

    I remember I made my first project—a small table when I was 9 years old. I was so 1 of it that I looked upon it as if I had created a(an) 2. It was absolutely beautiful and it had taken me six weeks to3 it. I could hardly wait to give it to Mother Winters as a(an)4. She was the head mistress of our orphanage（孤儿院）, who was always kind but 5 with us.

    As the tables were not dry from the clear coating(清漆), our woodworking teacher told us to wait a few days before taking them to our dormitories. But I was just so 6and happy that I couldn't wait I dashed out like a 7, carrying my table, smiling from ear to ear.

    When I reached the dormitory I placed the little table beside my bed. I was 8 it when Mother Winters entered. She walked over to the table. Running her hand 9 it, she noticed that it was still wet.

    “Were you 10 to bring this home?” she asked.

    “No, ma'am,” I 11 with my head down.

    She ordered me to throw the table out and so I did. After she left, I immediately opened the door to get it back. There was 12 stuck all over. I brushed and cried, but the dirt would not come off.

    I hid the table in my closet and never 13 it. However, a year later during a cleaning-up, it was discovered. Painfully, I had to give the table to Mother Henderson, my houseparent, thinking that she would 14 it away.

    Thirty years later at a reunion, I 15 that Mother Henderson was living nearby, so I drove up to see her. We talked cheerfully for long. As I was about to leave, she asked me to come down to her 16 to get something important. I followed her 17 into a dark corner. She picked something up. 18 she turned around, I could see that she was holding a little table.

    Mother Henderson kept the little table that I had given up for lost so long ago.

    Today, I look at that table with bittersweet memories but full of 19 to Mother Henderson, who kept the table for a young orphan who 20 it so much.

    For Nick Vujicic, life was going to be difficult from the day he was born.When Nick arrived into this world, he 1 everyone.He was not like the other babies and it was 2 obvious to his parents and to the doctors in the hospital.

    There was no 3 or answers for his condition.Nick was born without any limbs—that is he was born without any arms or legs.But despite being physically  4 , he was mentally 5 and the rest of his body was functioning fine.

    6 he had loving parents, Nick would find school hard as he would often be looked down upon by the other children and at the young age of 10, he considered  7 his life by drowning himself in a bathtub.These dark thoughts were 8 by his negative attitude to being disabled and at the time, he thought that he would never be able to do 9 by himself, that he would never have a job and that he would always have to 10 on his parents for help.

    Nick was wrong.As an adult, Nick is a successful public speaker and is famous for his motivational 11 which focus on life with a disability, hope and finding meaning in life worldwide.He  12 so many people with the story of his life, how he has 13 so many difficulties and most importantly how he is happy every day.

    Despite having no arms or legs, Nick lives 14 , even finding ways to do almost  15 things like brushing his teeth on his own and swimming.He has to work harder than a full bodied person and he achieves his goals.

    At the first impression, you may look at Nick and feel 16 .You may feel sad that this man has no arms or legs and you might feel his 17 and upset that he could find everyday situations difficult.But we should

    18 Nick, as he is extremely positive and he gets on with life.He 19 every day and makes the best of what he has: a positive attitude, a creative mind and a powerful 20 .He also has a very kind and very beautiful wife and they are truly happy and in love.

    My father always told me: "All work is noble." He wasn't 1 , but he earned a reasonable living. Thanks to his 2 , I was able to go to Art College. I, however, wanted to do something 3 , something more interesting-I was special！

    After graduation, I moved to New York in search of a graphic designer job. It was winter and, ever the optimist, I'd only brought enough money to 4 myself for about a month. I wasn't 5 -I was sure I'd find a fantastic job immediately.

    Within a few weeks, though, I found myself wandering around the streets having been 6 by every design office in town. My hostel 7 was almost gone and I hadn't eaten in days. “How had I reached this point？""I wondered as I 8 in my thin jacket.

    I was just about to 9 when my dad called. He suggested that I get a job in a 10 until something else came along. At first, pride made me 11. But I was cold, hungry, and unwilling to go home feeling 12 and defeated.

    I entered an expensive-looking cafe near one of the design offices that had turned me away and asked the manager if they were 13. She said they were 14, and offered me a job right away.

    15, I found that I really enjoyed serving people. I started making big 16 right away. Later, the manager learned that I had a design 17 and asked me to design the cafe menus. That led to a part-time job at an advertising company.

    Previously, I'd have never considered being a 18, but there I was. I 19 got my dream design job, but that winter I learned not to make 20 about work.

    There came a time in my life when my learning curve (曲线) became very steep. I learned so much in such a 1 time that I was reading two grades ahead of my 2 class. At school I was continuously 3 with lectures, because I had already done 4.

    And 5 my knowledge increased, so did my arrogance (傲慢). I started getting into 6 debates with my teachers. I knew more than them, and I was eager to show it at every 7 I got. That was until Mrs T 8. She was new to our school, and a perfect 9 for me. I tried one of my tricks on her in front of the whole class. She didn't scold me. She just 10.

    At the end of the class, she 11 me aside and said the following words:

    "I know that there is an unspoken 12 that a teacher is supposed to be more 13 than the student. We both know that is 14. I know for a fact that you know much more than me. And I won't insult you by pretending otherwise. But remember this. Knowledge is supposed to give you 15, not pride. Today you are the smartest person in the room; tomorrow you won't be. There will always be someone much 16, much more diligent than you. And when that happens, all the pride in the world wouldn't be enough to 17 you from downfall. Everything that you have learnt will be for nothing if you don't learn the 18 of humility."

    Today, I 19 remember her words. I 20 myself of them daily.

    Lori was suspended (暂停)from school for having cigarettes in her locker. She told her dad, "I don't know how they got there! I was just putting them in my pocket to take them to the principal when a teacher 1 and sent me to the office." Dad had a hard time 2 that Lori didn't know how the cigarettes got into her locker, 3 only she had the key. He also found it hard to believe that she was putting them in her pocket to take them to the principal. He felt disappointed that Lori would 4 to him because they had always been such a close and loving 5. He was also worried that she was beginning to 6 her life by getting involved in smoking, drinking, and drugs.

    Dad felt like 7 and punishing and letting her know how disappointed he was.

    8 , he decided to look for the positive. It is never difficult to find, if you are willing to look for it. As he got into Lori's 9 he could understand that she was probably having a tough time deciding how to 10 with family values and still be part of the crowd. He also realized that the only reason Lori would lie to him would be because she loved him so much that she wouldn't want to disappoint him.

    With this 11 , Dad approached Lori. Instead of scolding and punishing, he kindly said, "Lori, I'll bet it is really difficult trying to 12 how to stick up for what you believe and yet not be called a 13 by your friends.

    Lori felt such 14 as she said, "Yes, it is."

    Dad went on, "And I'll bet that if you would ever lie to us, it would be because you love us so much that you wouldn't want to disappoint us." Lori got tears in her eyes and could only nod in 15. Dad added, "Lori, we would be disappointed if you did something that would 16 you. But if you don't know that you can always tell us anything, then we aren't doing a good enough job in letting you know how much we love you — 17Lori gave her dad a big 18 , and they just held each other for a while.

    They never did directly discuss the problem of smoking and lying. Over a year has gone by, and Lori seems to delight in letting her mom and dad know every time she 19 the temptation(诱惑)to do something contrary to her 20. She also feels proud that she is influencing her friends to stick up for their belief.

    When I was growing up, I had an old neighbor Dr Gibbs, a good doctor. When Dr, Gibbs wasn't 1lives, he was planting trees. His house covered an area of ten acres, and his life's2was to make it a forest.

    The good doctor had some interesting theories 3plant care and growth. He never4his new trees, which went against traditional practices. Once I asked why, he said that watering plants did 5to them so that their later generation would grow weaker and weaker. So you had to make things6for them and removed the7early on. He talked about how watering trees made for8roots, and how trees that weren't watered had to grow deep roots9 moisture(水分). He meant that deep roots had to be10. For this reason, he11watered his trees.

    Dr Gibbs12a couple of years after I left home. Every now and again, I walked by his house and looked at the13that he had planted when he was alive. They're extremely tall and big14 they have deep roots now. However, the trees in my garden15 in a cold wind although I had watered them for several years.

    It seems that suffering 16these trees, while comfort and ease never can. I stood there deep in17.

    Every night before I go to bed, I check on my two sons. Mostly I pray that their lives will be 18.But I think that it's time to19my prayer because now I know my children are going to20hardship.
