That morning in September, at a five-kilometer race, I waited for my 11-year-old son at the finish line. He'd run 30:34 at another 5k in late spring, so I 1 he could run a 5k in about 30 minutes. When I didn't see him at the 35-minute mark, I began to 2 .

It'd already been an 3 morning. About an hour earlier, when we drove into town, my son noticed a lovely tiny green tree cricket （树蟋） in my car. It jumped onto my son's hand where it stayed so long that we eventually gave it a name: Little Friend.

Minutes before the race, it jumped onto the sidewalk. Maybe it wanted to seek freedom, but this wasn't a safe place due to the 4 pedestrian traffic. So my son knelt and 5 his hand. Little Friend came back. But I told him he would 6 it during the race.

I ran well and felt thrilled at the finish line. However, that 7 gave way to anxiety when my son didn't show up. I 8 asking people if they'd seen him. No one had. So I returned to the race headquarters. In my confusion, I didn't even see him 9 the finish line. But there he was, just ahead of the 45-minute mark, with Little Friend 10 on his right thumb.

My 11 were wrong. My son didn't run fast, and he didn't lose Little Friend. These two 12 seemed somehow related. He 13 a cold he was getting over, but I knew it was more than that.

Sometimes life gives you something beautiful, but fragile （易碎的）. There's no need to 14 ahead. Treat it 15 and hold on when you can.

I had never picked up a camera before my freshman year in 2012, when my journey to an artist began. For four years, I 1 G-Star School of The Arts, where my 2 for photography and filmmaking were awaken.

Having seen my first short film, my teacher came over, saying: "You got a good 3 . Why not consider doing this as your profession. I think you've got a 4 in it". Then, it clicked. I, therefore, 5 my bank account and bought my first camera.

Since then, I was amazed by the 6 the world has to offer. I have to 7 , though: I, shy and chicken-hearted, tended to capture nature-related scenes, 8 anything to do with people.

As I was 9 my way, I started photographing myself, the only one I felt 10 with. The camera soon became my strongest 11 , serving as the tool for how I expressed myself. Gradually, I gained enough 12 to start taking photos of other people, greatly touched by how I was able to 13 the best in them through the lens (镜头).

Each year, I would look back on all of the shots I did that year and would 14 them to the first one I ever took in my career. Although the progress seemed substantial, I realized the key to growth as an artist is to never be 15 . This allows me to create progressively better work year after year.

Kelli Boehle says her son Nik was an amazing and caring person. Nik was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer in 2008 when he was 17. He passed away in 2012. But Nik's kindness and generosity have lived on long after his death

After he was diagnosed and started treatment, Nik was granted a wish experience from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "For just this period of time, we didn't think about cancer," Kelli Boehle said. "All we thought about was enjoying our time together." In 2009, Nik met another young man Nate, who was also going through cancer treatment. He'd been diagnosed a month after turning 18, and Nik learned he was too old to qualify for a wish. The night before Nik passed away, he asked his mother to help ensure that young adults fighting cancer could have their wishes come true too.

"It was like a seed he planted that just wouldn't stop coming into my mind," she said. In 2012, Kelli Boehle started Nik's Wish. The nonprofit grants wishes to young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who are battling cancer. Nate was the organization's first wish recipient. "It's meant to bring them joy and know that they're loved and that we're fighting for them, too," Kelli Boehle said.

Recently, 19-year-old Jordan Morrow received her wish to attend a Taylor Swift concert as part of a trip to Los Angeles. For Morrow, who has spent the last year battling brain cancer, going to the concert has done more than lift her spirits. "I think it's something to get me through whatever comes my way," she said. "And I'm thankful for Nik's Wish for that."

In the 1lyearssinceNik passed away, the organization has granted more than 300wishes across more than 30 states. In the beginning, Kelli Boehle says she wasn't sure she could be a wish maker and work closely with the young adults.But now, it'sher favoritething to do.

A farmer grew some vegetables in his garden. One day his wife was ill and he had no money. He had to sell some cabbages and carrots in the market. The next morning he took two baskets of vegetables to town. But it was raining hard that afternoon and there were few people in the street. When his vegetables were sold out, it was dark. He bought some medicine and hurried to his village. 

On his way home he saw a person lying on the snow. He placed his baskets on the ground and was going to help the person to get up. At that time he found it was a dead man and there was much blood on his body. He was so afraid that he ran away quickly, without taking the baskets with him. 

The next afternoon the farmer was sent to the police station. Having shown the baskets, an officer asked: "Are these yours?" "Yes, sir." the farmer answered timidly (胆怯)."Have you killed the man?" "No, no, sir." the farmer said in a hurry. "When did you see the dead man?" "About seven last evening." "Did you see who killed the man?" "No, Sir." The officer brought out a knife and asked, "Have you seen it yet?" "No, Sir." The officer became angry and told the policemen to beat him up and send him into prison. 

That evening the officer went on trying. Pointing to the knife, he asked again, "Have you seen it yet?" "Yes, Sir." The officer was happy and asked, "When and where?" "I saw it here this afternoon, sir."

Faye and Matthew Gooding and their five young sons appear to have perfect lives. Mrs. Gooding 1 beautiful photos of life in their four-bedroom house on Instagram(一种社交软件), and more than 32, 000 people 2 them. For the couple themselves, 3 , this "materially(物质地) perfect world" was lacking something—so now they are giving up all their 4 to travel around the world with their kids.

This was the last Christmas that the couple spent in their house, which has already been sold. Most of their belongings are 5 too. Shortly their Ford car will be sold and the family will take just one backpack each.

Mrs. Gooding said: "Some friends and family think Matt and I are 6 to be giving up so much. It's been difficult giving up so many possessions. Yet 7 enjoying spending time with the boys, I found myself cleaning the house all day before. The older ones were at school and I thought, 'I 8 see them'. I admitted how I felt to Matt. He agreed it felt as if our lives moved around 9 things—both of us working to 10 the mortgage(贷款) and keep ourselves in our materially perfect world."

    They will leave this month and plan to start their 11 in Sweden where they have friends.

Mr. Gooding added: "People have said 'aren't you worried about stability and safety?'— 12 as we have five small children. It is a (an) 13 because we are giving up so much. But we can't wait to spend more time with our sons without the 14 of everyday routines. We don't know what will happen, but we do know if we didn't do this we would always 15 it."

As far as we know batteries are playing an important role in our life. We couldn't live without batteries. Why so? Batteries provide power for anything from small sensors to large systems. While scientists are finding ways to make them smaller but even more powerful, problems can arise when these batteries are much larger and heavier than the devices themselves. University of Missouri (MU) researchers are developing a nuclear energy source that is smaller, lighter and more efficient.

" To provide enough power, we need certain methods with high energy density (密度)", said Jae Kwon, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at MU." The radioisotope(放射性同位素) battery can provide power density that is much higher than chemical batteries."

Kwo n and his research team have been working on building a small nuclear battery, presently the size and thickness of a penny, intended to power various micro/ nanoelectromechanreal systems(M/NEMS). Although nuclear batteries can cause concerns, Kwon said, they are safe.

" People bear the word‘ nuclear' and think of something very dangerous," he said," However, nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices, such as pace- makers, space satellites and underwater systems."

His new idea is not only in the battery's size, but also in its semiconductor(半导体). Kwon's battery uses a liquid semiconductor rather than a solid semiconductor.

" The key part of using a radioactive battery is that when you harvest the energy, part of the radiation energy can damage the lattice structure(晶体结构) of the solid semiconductor, Kwo n said," By using a liquid semiconductor, we believe we can minimize that problem."

Together with J. David Robertson, chemistry professor and associate director of the MU Research Reactor, Kwo n is working to build and test the battery. In the future, they hope to increase the battery's power, shrink its size and try with various other materials. Kwo n said that battery could be thinner than the thickness of human hair.
