Taking a gap year between high school and college can be a great way to explore your interests, gain new experiences, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} develop skills that will benefit you in the future. For me, my gap year was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} unforgettable adventure that allowed me {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(step) outside my comfort zone and see the world in new ways.

During my gap year, I traveled to several {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(country) including Thailand, Japan, and Peru. I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (volunteer) at a wildlife preserve in Thailand, where I worked with elephants, monkeys, and other animals. In Japan, I taught English to elementary school children, and in Peru, I worked on a farming project with a local community.

These experiences were greatly rewarding and taught me valuable lessons about the world and myself. I learned how to communicate {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(effective) with people from different cultures, how to adapt {#blank#}7{#/blank#} new environments and situations, and how to be more self-sufficient and resourceful.

In addition to my travels, I also spent time {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(explore) my passions and hobbies. I took art classes, learned how to cook new dishes, and read extensively about topics {#blank#}9{#/blank#} interested me. These activities helped me to develop my creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. So far these skills {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) invaluable in shaping my ideas and I'm looking forward to continuing to improve them throughout my life.

During the Spring and Autumn Period (770 — 476 BC), there was a musician, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} lived alone in a forest where he played the guqin, and his name was Yu Boya. One day, a passing woodcutter {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(name) Zhong Ziqi was intrigued (陶醉于) by the sounds of the musical instrument, and Mr. Zhong Ziqi {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(he) listened with full attention. Yu {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(sincere) played the guqin, causing various pictures in Zhong's imagination, such as flowing clouds and plunging waterfalls. Such was the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(connect) between performing and listening. They became bosom friends (挚友). After many years, when the woodcutter died, Yu decided {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(smash) his instrument and never to play again since he was sure that he would never again have someone like Zhong to so intuitively understand his music.

Indeed, the guqin— the favored instrument of Confucius — was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} essential musical instrument of ancient China's educated elite (精英). It {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(add) to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2008.

In April, when President Xi Jinping {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(meet) with French President Emmanuel Macron, a classic guqin piece, High Mountain and Flowing Water, was played to celebrate the friendship and mutual understanding {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the two countries.

Kenya {#blank#}1{#/blank#} （know） for its wonderful beaches. Water sports activities such as diving and game fishing have attracted visitors from around the world.

Visitors can {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （easy） spend a relaxing long holiday in any of these destinations. Maila Izi, a 22-year-old student, has been a fan of water sports since she was a child. Over the past years, she has been to several countries, such as France and Spain, to learn new skills including wave surfing. But she thinks Diani offers the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （good） water sports experiences of all.

"This is the first time I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} （visit） but the sea is the most beautiful that I have ever seen," she said. "The sand beach is so wide, the water is so warm and I think it is the perfect place for kitesurfing. It's the most beautiful beach I have ever been on."

She went to Diani with her parents for a May holiday. Izi was determined {#blank#}5{#/blank#} （learn）kitesurfing, a water activity that uses a kite and surfboard（冲浪板）. It is a relatively new sport {#blank#}6{#/blank#} has gained increasing popularity. She signed up {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a class that offered three hours of training, including {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （fly） kites of different sizes.

Goodluck Shamala, the founder of a training institute in Diani, said kitesurfing, which used to be considered as {#blank#}9{#/blank#} extreme sport, has in recent years become more popular among {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （tourist）. Many come from countries as far as Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States.
