Long ago in a small, faraway village, there was a place {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (know) as the House of 1000 Mirrors. A small, happy little dog learned of this p{#blank#}2{#/blank#} and decided to visit. When he arrived, he jumped happily up the stairs to the doorway of the house. He looked through the doorway with his ears lifted high and his tail wagging as fast as it {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. To his great surprise, he found himself {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (stare) at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (he). He smiled a great smile, and was answered with 1000 great smiles just as warm and friendly. As he left the House, he thought to himself, "This is a wonderful place. I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (come) back and visit it often."

    In this same village, a{#blank#}7{#/blank#} little dog, who was not quite as happy as the first one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung his head low as he looked into the door. When he saw the 1000 {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (friendly) looking dogs staring back at him, he growled(咆哮) at them and was horrified to see 1000 little dogs growling back at him. As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there {#blank#}9{#/blank#}."

    Eric and Chen first met in their Math class at an American college. Chen was an international student f{#blank#}1{#/blank#} China. He wanted to learn about American culture and hoped he and Eric would become good friends. At first, Eric seemed f{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. He always greeted Chen warmly before class. Sometimes he offered to study with Chen. He even i{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Chen to eat lunch with him. But after the term was over and they were in different classes, Eric seemed more distant. They didn't s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} each other very much at college. One day Chen called Eric, But Eric didn't seem very interested in talking to him, Chen was h{#blank#}5{#/blank#} by Eric's change of attitude（态度）. "Eric said we were friends." Chen said.
