My cousin and I took a trip by rail across Canada from west to east. Before starting out, we spent a couple of days in Vancouver, admiring the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sight). Then we arose early to take the train to Lake Louise, passing through the Canadian Rockies. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (see) from the train window, the mountains and forests looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (mass). We spent the night near the lake, where the blue water literally took our breath away, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} headed to Jasper the next morning. The beautiful scenery convinced us it was the most awesome journey we {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (take). From Jasper, we boarded the train bound {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Toronto. One of our first stops was in Edmonton, which {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be) home to many shopping malls. We never anticipated seeing such an open country until the train headed across the Great Prairie. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} amazed us most were a bunch of farms covering two wheat-growing provinces. The train thundered on, through the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (roll) hills in Ontario. It was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (true) enjoyable to watch the red maple leaves outside the window. After four days, we reached Toronto.

In the blog Jo wrote about her experiences of  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) a teacher in a bush school in Papua New Guinea. We can imagine  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} difficult it was for her to work there, since there was no{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (electrical) or water, and no {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (equip) for science subjects. And students had to walk a long way to the school. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} was difficult for her to get to know the local people as she didn't know much Pidgin English, but there was one chance {#blank#}6{#/blank#} she managed to visit the home of one of her students. After as long as two and a half hours' hard journey, she and another teacher Jenny arrived at Tombe's house, a low bamboo hut with grass {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (stick) out of the roof. They entered the room {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the narrow doorway, and the hut was dark inside so it took time for their eyes {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (adjust)．Jo really felt it was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} great privilege to have spent a day with Tombe's family. 

As I walk into the big room at school, I'm wearing my white coat that doctors usually wear. But I also have on some funny 1 and a messy wig that makes me look like a crazy scientist. My name tag says "Professor Quantum Quirks," which makes people laugh.

Inside the room, there are a lot of 2 getting ready for a science fair. They look excited but also a little 3 . I notice one boy sitting by himself, looking 4 because his science project isn't working right. I go over to him and 5 he's having a hard time with it. I feel bad for him. So, I decide to 6 him by doing a fun experiment together. We 7 a mini volcano using simple things we can find at home. He starts to 8 himself and gets excited when the volcano erupts with bubbly stuff. Other kids see us having fun and come over to 9 . We do more cool experiments with them and everyone is 10 and having a good time.

By the end of the science fair, I 11 my wig and glasses, but I'm still 12 because it was so much fun. I hope the kids keep being 13 about science and discovering new 14 . After all, asking questions and exploring is how we learn and have fun in the world of 15 .

An Orego n teenager Marcos Ugartes is being praised as a hero after he saved a young boy from a house fire.

The fire broke out just after 10 p. m. Monday. Marcos Ugartes and his dad were sitting on the couch in their home when they heard 1 down the street. As soon as they realized the screaming was coming from the house down the street, they 2 some residents were just arguing. But Marcos Ugartes noticed the flames（火焰）. Then Marcos and his dad took off running for their neighbor's house.

After learning that an 8-year-old Cody Ma was still 3 inside the home, Marcos Ugartes didn't think 4 about running down the street with his father to 5 the boy from the flames that broke out on the second story of the home.

Marcos Ugartes grabbed a ladder（梯子）and 6 to the second floor to the boy's room. He 7 the window and finally rescued the 8 trapped inside.

Ministry of Public Security data show it has solved more than 20,000 cases {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (involve) violations of the ban since 2021. Over that period, illegal fishing in the main waterways of the Yangtze has decreased by almost a third, and less than 10 percent involves more destructive organized crimes.

It was very late and everyone had left the cafe except an old man who sat in the shadow the leaves of the tree made against the electric light. In the day time the street was dusty,but at night the dew settled the dust and the old man liked to sit late because he was deaf and now at night it was quiet and he felt the difference,The two waiters inside the cafe knew that the old man was a little drunk,and while he was a good client they knew that if he became too drunk he would leave without paying,so they kept watch on him. 

"Last week he tried to commit suicide,"one waiter said. 

"Why?"

"He was in despair. "

"What about?"

 "Nothing. "

"How do you know it was nothing?" 

"He has plenty of money. "

They sat together at a table that was close against the wall near the door of the cafe and looked at the terrace(露台)where the tables were ll empty except where the old man sat in the shadow of the leaves of the tree that moved slightly in the wind. 

"The guard will pick him up,"one waiter said. 

"What does it matter if he gets what he's after?"

"He had better get off the street now. The guard will get him. They went by five minutes ago. "

The old man sitting in the shadow tapped his saucer with his glass. The younger waiter went over to him. 

"What do you want?"

The old man looked at him. "Another brandy,"he said. 

"You'll be drunk,"the waiter said. The old man looked at him. The waiter went away. 

"He'll stay all night,"he said to his colleague. "I'm sleepy now. I never get into bed before three o'clock. He should have killed himself last week. "

The younger waiter took the brandy bottle and marched out to the old man's table. 

"You should have killed yourself last week,"he said to the deaf man. The old man motioned with his finger. "A little more,"he said. The waiter poured on into the glass. "Thank you,"the old man said. The waiter took the bottle back inside the cafe. He sat down at the table with his colleague again.
