Athletes from various countries displayed the charm of competition sports during Beijing Winter Olympics. One of the reasons why this Winter Olympics can be successfully held is the robots who work hard behind the scenes. 

In the dining hall, instead of human waiters, food arrives from the ceiling. To our surprise, the cooking robot can make delicious dishes according to the programs; food even like burgers are being prepared automatically. 

It doesn't stop there. Elsewhere in the media center, a robotic arm is serving up cocktails. It takes just 70-90 seconds to measure, shake and serve. 

Look at this robot. Although it is only 140 cm tall, it only takes one minute to sterilize（灭菌）36 square meters. The space even more than 1,000 square meters can be easily dealt by itself. The robot can hold 16 liters of disinfection（消毒）water at one time, and spray（喷雾）around through the small fan above its head.

Tomatoes ﹣﹣ They are the "Number 1" food. They are a kind of vegetable and a kind of fruit. They are very helpful. They're important to hamburgers and salad. They may taste bad if there are no tomatoes. In some countries of Europe，young men and women often pick tomatoes for each other when they are in love. 

Carrots ﹣﹣ We can usually see them in vegetable salad. In Netherlands （荷兰），the carrot，onion and potato are country food. People in some countries call the carrot "Queen". 

Potatoes ﹣﹣ They have two other names ﹣﹣ "apples in the forest" and "the second bread". 

Kuang Heng was born in a poor family. He liked reading books very much. He needed to work at daytime, so he had to read books during night. But he was too poor to buy candles. 

One day, he found his neighbor had candles, but the light couldn't go through his room. So he dug a small hole on the wall so that he could use the light to read books. From that day, he read books every night until the light went out. 

However, he finished reading all his books and there were no books for him to read. Then he went to a rich man's house and worked for him without payment. The rich man asked: "Why don't you want the money?"

Kuang Heng said: "Because I only want to borrow your books." The rich man agreed. Kuang Heng read the books one by one.

Scientists say that hobbies can make kids cleverer, healthier and even more successful when they grow up. How?

When you have a hobby, you learn new things. You have to read instructions (说明书). You look at websites, magazines and books to get more information about your hobby. More reading makes you a better reader and a better learner. 

For many hobbies, such as building model cars and making pottery (陶器), you have to use your brain as well as your hands. We learn by doing things and by touching things. These kinds of activities make people more creative (有创造力的). 

Having a hobby makes you feel good. Scientists say, "When you make something, the feel good part of your brain gets a message. It makes you feel happy. " When we feel happy, we have less stress(压力). Too much stress can make people ill. 

People with hobbies learn how to make goals and solve problems. Learning these skills when you are young can help you when you grow up. For some kids, having a hobby can be the first step to find a better job in the future. 

My father died when I was five. It was hard on us all. My brother，who is eight years older than me，began to watch over my mother and me. 

Because of my father's death，my mother was forced to get a full-time job. My brother would get me up for school，and make me breakfast. While I was eating，he would lay out my clothes，and gather my school books up. Hand in hand，we would walk to the bus stop. As we waited，he would play games my father used to play with me. He did his best to make me happy，and he succeeded every time. 

When we arrived home from school，we were alone for about half an hour，until mom was home from work. He would sit me down with three cookies and find something for dinner，having everything ready for mom，so she could start cooking. 

It was a Saturday in June a couple of years later. My mother and I were at the store. They had the Father's Day cards out. I looked at the cards. My mom said，"Honey，I know this is a hard time for you. "I said，"No，mom，that's not it. Why don't they have Brother's Day cards？" 

She smiled and said，"You're right，your brother has certainly been a father to you. Go ahead and choose a card. " 

So I did. On Father's Day，my mother and I sat my brother down and gave him the card. 

As he read it，I saw his eyes watering. My mom said，"Son，your father is proud of you. You do your best to fill his shoes. We love you，and thank you. "
