For about three years now, I have been writing poetry. It was not until my junior year in high school that I developed an interest, love and skill for writing poetry. 

Back in elementary school, I loved to write stories. I would write stories on post-it notes and anywhere I could. Yet when I had to write a limerick(五行打油诗) for an assignment, I could not wrap my head around poetry. I had a very hard time figuring out how to rhyme words and have the words make sense. I eventually tossed the paper with the attempted limerick in the trash. I did not try my hand at poetry again until several years later. 

Many years later in my freshman year of high school, my English teacher gave my class a poetry project as an assignment. I still remember my limerick assignment and was afraid of doing the poetry project. For the project, we had to analyse a poem and write a response to it. I chose to respond to Robert Frost's poem Fire and Ice. I also wrote my own poem first. I became really excited when writing the poem. 

Two years later, I started writing poetry as a hobby and for fun. To learn how good or bad my poems were, I handed them in to some magazines and contests. I won the second place in the North Carolina Poetry Society's Sherry Pruitt Award Contest, and had my two poems published as high quality poems. I have continued to write poetry, and have even self-published three collections of poetry in both print and e-book formats, which can be found in my store on Lulu. 

Now, I love writing poetry, but I don't hate writing short stories. I just find it more difficult and not my style of writing, even though I still write short stories occasionally. 

The Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu is often called the sage(圣人) of poetry. Unlike Li Bai, this poet wrote in various styles, and his works were often innovative(创新的) in language and subject matter. His poems were also filled with meaning. 

His innovation was not at all welcome. The readers of his time rarely showed much appreciation of his original and innovative works. The masses in fact hated and scolded them. Like many artists, Du Fu was only recognised for his genius long after his death. 

Du Fu was born in Luoyang, Henan Province. Although he came from an influential literary family, his early attempts to gain a position in the government by way of the exam system failed repeatedly. He was 43 years old when he finally managed to hold an official position. This was the time when Emperor Xuanzong was attracted to the beautiful Yang Yuhuan and made her his concubine(妃子), which Du Fu severely criticised in his Song of the Beautiful Ladies. 

As the emperor got distracted from important government affairs, some military leaders were becoming too powerful. Du Fu took office in 755, and in the same year a rebel(叛乱) leader An Lushan led his army into the capital of Tang Dynasty. The emperor fled to the west and left the governing of the state to his son. Du Fu and his family took the road north to escape the rebels. 

The poet left his family and tried to get to the headquarters of the new emperor, but he was caught and held prisoner by the rebels in Chang'an. After order was restored again, Du Fu got back his position in the capital. However, he did not enjoy the favour of the new emperor and was given a minor provincial post. In 759 he finally left this disgraceful position and spent the rest of his life wandering around the country. 

I was born legally blind. Of all the stories of my early childhood, the one about a 1 is my mother's favorite. I was only two when the 2 occurred. We had just arrived home from a trip. Mom lifted me out of the car and 3 to speak to the driver. I took advantage of my brief 4 to dash across the lawn (草坪) and hit a large maple tree! I was running so fast that I bounced off the trunk and landed on my backside. Mom 5 me to start crying, but I just sat there for a minute. Then I 6 myself up and kept right on going. 

Mom loves to use this story as an 7 . It reminds her that children don't enter life 8 to take risks or unwilling to 9 again when they fall down. She never wanted me to lose that toughness as I grew older. When I 10 my major life decisions, I was still that little girl tearing full-speed across the lawn. I studied abroad and later moved away from my parents' home to look for a 11 . Through years of 12 , I have become a respected teacher in a school serving high-need students. 

We are almost certain to get 13 at some point during the process of achieving our goal. When that happens, don't sit in the grass and 14 . Just get up and keep on going. It will all be worth it 15 .

Lang Ping, as a player, brought honour and glory to her country. As a coach, she led the China women's volleyball team to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (medal) at world championships and the Olympics. When the Chinese team was preparing for the 2015 World Cup, her {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (determine) was tested. The team she had built was falling apart. Two of her players had to leave.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (face) the challenge, Lang Ping didn't lose heart. She knew that her young players could win{#blank#}5{#/blank#} they worked together as a team. Two weeks later, they were world champions.

Michael Jordan, who became known as "Air Jordan", changed basketball with his graceful moves and jumps. His skills were{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (impress), but the mental strength he showed made him unique. In the final seconds of a game, Jordan always seemed to find a way {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (win). Jordan says that the secret {#blank#}8{#/blank#} his success is learning from his failures. Losing games taught him to practise {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (hard) than before and never give up. In life, Jordan has learnt to share his success with others. The Boys and Girls Club he started in Chicago {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (help) young people since 1996.

While taking a 20-hour train ride along the edge of the Taklimakan Desert in northwestern China, I had the kind of humbling, educational, and above all else, wonderful1 with a local that all travelers long for. A young Chinese man 2 me on the train. My3 friend spoke virtually no English, so I happily took the4 to practice my Chinese.

Over several hours he would tell me about how he had5 a two-year professional school to quickly find a job 6 highways in order to help support his family. Perhaps most7 .however, was the fact that this man spent hours studying every day after hard physical labor. Without batting an eye he would8 a translated Emerson passage before asking about the literary influence of American9 as a whole. "And what do you all learn about Russian authors?" I10 hi m asking at one point.

It would have been easy to11 my assumptions about this highway builder who had never been more than a few hundred miles from home. But this highly informed,12 , and admirable person prevented me doing so. In the course of a couple of hours, he13 me just how much one can gain from14 with an open mind, and a willingness to15 with locals from all walks of life.

I suffered my brain injury from a car accident. I was rear-ended(追尾) twice 1 , which caused my head to hit the headrest each time I was hit. I had received news over time from my doctor, which was mentally and emotionally 2 for any 18-year-old to accept. I was 3 , and did not know what this meant for me and my future. Throughout the journey, I tried to 4 why I didn't feel like myself two years after the accident and recognized things I never had 5 with before, such as being unable to remember pretty much anything. My 6 had increased and I did go through days of depression. I wanted to be a 7 but I felt as though that dream would never be reached.

       Sitting in bed feeling 8 , I tried to focus on why I wanted to be a lawyer. I 9 myself that I was the only one holding myself back from making that 10 a reality. Thinking of this, I pulled myself together and have been fighting for my dream ever since. And I am 11 with my bachelor's degree in criminal justice and two pre-law certificates in 3 years at Florida International University.

12 I have to work ten times harder than I would have if I hadn't had this 13 , I wouldn't take it back. I am 14 now due to the things that have happened to me. Nothing is impossible, but it is how you take on a(an) 15 that will get you to where you want to be.
