The Germans published the first modern-style newspaper in 1609. News-sheets existed before then, but these were not really newspapers.

Hundreds of years later, people are still buying newspapers. Shops and stalls all over the world {#blank#}1{#/blank#} millions of newspapers every day.

    However, people do not get their news only from newspapers. They can listen to it, as they did long ago, and they can {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it.

Two inventions, radio and television, have made this {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. These broadcast many news programmes daily. So people now get news from their radios and TV sets, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}from papers.

    However, newspapers remain {#blank#}5{#/blank#} because they give the news in more detail than either radio or TV. That is the main reason {#blank#}6{#/blank#} people continue to buy them.

    Will it matter if you don't take your breakfast? A short time ago, a test {#blank#}1{#/blank#}given in some places. People of different ages from 12 to 83 were asked to have a{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. During the test, these people were given{#blank#}3{#/blank#}kinds of breakfast, and some got no breakfast at all.  Scientists wanted to {#blank#}4{#/blank#}how well their bodies worked when they had different kinds of breakfasts. The results show that if a person{#blank#}5{#/blank#}a right breakfast, he or she will work {#blank#}6{#/blank#} than if he or she has no breakfast. If a student has fruit, egg, bread and milk before {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to school, he will learn more quickly and listen more{#blank#}8{#/blank#}in class. The result is opposite to what some people think. Having no breakfast will not help you lose weight. This is because people become so{#blank#}9{#/blank#}at noon that they eat too much for lunch. They will gain weight instead of losing{#blank#}10{#/blank#}.
