The famous scientist and thinker, Charles Darwin, was born on February 12, 1809. As a boy, Charles liked to go for walks in the fields and forests. He enjoyed watching nature, and comparing what he saw with everything he had read in science books.

    At sixteen, Darwin was sent to Edinburgh University to become a doctor. But he was interested in the history of nature. Then he was sent to study in Cambridge University. He left the university in 1831. Some time later he heard that the ship Beagle was going on a trip to South America and wanted a scientist. His teacher advised him to go. So when the Beagle left England in December, 1831, Darwin was on it. The trip lasted almost five years.

    In 1842 Darwin went to live in Ken. Darwin understood that plants and animals are not always the same, and that they really change. By 1859 Darwin had finished his famous book "The Origin of Species". Darwin continued his studies in science before he died in 1882.

    The largest animal living on the earth is the blue whale. It weighs about 80 tons—more than 24 elephants. It is more than 30 metres long. A newborn baby whale weighs as heavy as a big elephant.

    Cats can survive(存活) when they fall down from a very high place because they can keep their bodies safe. One cat fell 32 floors onto the street, but it was just hurt a little.

    A bear can run as fast as a horse.

    A newborn panda is smaller than a mouse, and weighs about 100 grams.

    Elephants are the most careful animals in their love. A male elephant may show his love to a lady for up to three years until the lady accepts his love. They often show their love by touching each other's body.

    Usually, wolves don't attack(攻击) people. And wolves don't usually go together, but they may do this in winter.

    ⑴We are living in a world full of competition. Parents compete with others in their offices, our brothers and sisters compete with others in their colleges, and we compete with our classmates in schools. Most of us give up facing competition and will never be successful. Why can't we do better than others? One important reason is that we have no self﹣confidence.

    ⑵事实上，人人生而平等。You can do what others do. Your classmates may be better than you in some ways, but you may be better than them in other subjects. So everyone has his or her advantages.

    ⑶Don't look at things from a single point of view. Try to discover your own advantages, and believe that you can do better than others in those ways.

    ⑸Remember that self﹣confidence is the first step to success. Believe in yourselves, and you will be successful in any competition.

    Rishi was a 10-year-old boy. Just like any other boy of his age, he hardly did the housework his parents told him to do, and usually he would completely ignore(忽视) them.

    It was a 5-day holiday. He spent a good time with his mother. She took him for outings. They went to the beach and parks and had delicious meals. She cooked his favourite foods and played with him. Three days was left and Rishi's mother wanted him to clean the house with her. To her surprise, he agreed and did everything well.

    After Rishi finished the work his mother asked him to do, he gave her a piece of paper written by him. She was greatly surprised to see what he wrote.

She didn't say a word and wrote on a piece of paper and gave it to her son. She wrote:

    The boy was in tears and rushed to his mum and gave her a big hug. He told his mother, "Mum, I love you. I'm sorry for everything." Rishi's mother kissed him on his forehead.

    Mistakes are great teachers. Success comes to those who are willing to risk making mistakes to achieve their goals and wishes, and who are able to learn from those mistakes. And in order to learn from mistakes, you must be willing to pay for them.

    Mistakes can be very valuable, but when you try to get others to pay for your mistakes, then you lose the chance to learn from them. When something goes wrong, it's usually very easy to find someone else's mistakes, but is that useful?

    Much of the value of mistakes comes from the fact that they need a cost that must be paid. The person who learns the most from a mistake is the one who pays the price for that mistake.

    When you make a mistake, what you shouldn't do is to run away from it. You need to accept it because you can learn a lot from it. The mistake has been made, so make the most of it. Pay the price, learn the lesson, and grow that much stronger.

When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Remember the causes, and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The present is still in your power. Make full use of your mistakes to achieve your goals and wishes.
