Friendship is one of the most precious (珍贵的) things in the world. You can find hundreds of stories about it. But how do you get a good, lasting friendship? My father recently told me 1 stories about friendship.

In 2023, a group of the young drew much attention in their different fields. They have become role models for young Chinese by showing how excellent and active they are. Here are the stories of three of them.

Chinese writer Hai Ya's The Space-Time Painter won an important prize on Oct 21st. He is the third Chinese writer to win this prize. Hai Ya was born in the 1990s. His work mixes history and science. The Space-TimePainter, for example, tells us a story of a painter called Zhao Ximeng. 

15-year-old Chen Yujie won the 100-meter event at the second U15 Gymnasiade (世界中学生运动会) in August. Chen often takes hard training all day and all night. Although it makes her painful sometimes, she says, "I get used to the training and it gives me the chance to realize my dream. I will keep on running!"

On Dec 21st, the members of Shenzhou XVII carried out their first spacewalk outside the Tiangong space station. Among them, Tang Shengjie who was born in 1989 set a new record by becoming the youngest Chinese astronaut (宇航员) to have a spacewalk. "It's the highest honor (荣誉) for me." he said in an interview with Xinhua.

Long long ago, there was a swan（天鹅）with golden feathers. She lived in a lake. A woman lived in a small house 1 the lake with her two daughters. They were very poor. They worked hard all year round, 2 still, they lived a hard life and sometimes they even didn't have enough 3 to buy food.

The swan was 4 to see that. She said to herself, "I'll give one of my 5 to them each day, then they can live a happy life with the money selling my feathers." That evening, she 6 to the poor woman's house and left a golden feather on the table without saying 7 .From then on, the swam came every day and gave them a feather. The woman was very happy because their life was much 8 than before.

But day after day, the woman became greedy（贪婪）.She said to her 9 "The swan may fly away one day. If so, we will be poor again. We should take all 10 feathers if she comes next time."

"Oh, no, Mom!" cried the daughters, "This will 11 the swan. She helps us a lot !"But the mother wouldn't listen. When the 12 came as usual, the mother caught her and took all her feathers. But suddenly, the golden feathers 13 chicken feathers.

Finding China's Sporting Passion

Thomas J. Scheuer from the US studies at Tsinghua University. He is also a professional(专业的) table tennis player. Why do Chinese players always dominate (占 领 先 地 位 ) the major table tennis events? Scheuer heard that one of the reasons is that there is a large fan base(基础) for the sport in the country. Almost everyone can play a little. To see whether it's true, he went to a park and visited a club to find out. The result surprised him. 

At a park in Beijing, Scheuer saw many old people playing table tennis. A man said that he had been playing the sport for more than 50 years. He plays for two hours every day. He was even named one of the "Beijing Masters" when he was 70. "I've noticed that I'm the youngest player here in the park, " said Scheuer. 

Then Scheuer visited a table tennis club. There, many kids were practising. A boy said he hoped that he could be an excellent player one day. A girl said playing table tennis helped her relax after doing schoolwork. 

The visit made Scheuer truly appreciate(欣赏) the enthusiasm (热情) that Chinese people have for table tennis. 

"Dubbed as China's 'national sport', table tennis is as popular in China as soccer and basketball are worldwide, " Scheuer said. 

 Scheuer was also impressed to find that Chinese people of all age groups take part in the sport, not just to win, but also to have fun, to socialise(交际), and to live a healthy life. Such a spirit(精神) touched him. 

 Shang Qinjie, also known as the modern"Shenbi Maliang", has helped his hometown out of poor conditions with his paintbrush.

 Shang Qinjie has been engaged(从事) in art-related work in the city since graduation(毕业). During the 

Spring Festival in 2020, Shang Qinjie began to paint on a few walls in his hometown, Xiaotun village. This made his village colorful and was liked by many villagers.

 Later, more works were painted, although painting on walls was a tough task. Shang started painting at 8 o' clock in the morning and continued until the sun went down. Usually it took seven or eight days to complete a whole painting. But when he saw more and more people come here to enjoy his paintings, he felt very happy. He liked painting some cartoon characters such as Nezha and Sun Wukong, because he thought those characters could give people power. As his works became popular on the Internet, Xiaotun village also became a popular travel place. Villagers there didn't go out to work anymore. They improved their living conditions by selling local products (产品). Shang Qinjie also realized painting in the village was very meaningful. So he will continue creating art in his hometown.

 Shang Qinjie's story is just one example of how young people are changing their hometowns. Many artists like Shang are using the artıstic method (方法) loved by young people to let people feel the beauty of the countryside. It not only makes the childhood of left-behind children more interesting, but also brings new life to those unknown villages.

Mike is a 14-year-old boy. He comes from England, but he lives in Beijing with his1 . His father is a doctor and his mother is a teacher. 

Before Mike came to China, he knew 2 about Beijing Opera. Like most young people, Mike only liked pop music. When he first listened to Beijing Opera, he didn't like it and thought it was too slow and 3 .
