Adam Braun set up the organization(组织) Pencils of Promise in2008. Its goal is to make sure all children have a chance for education. Six years later , the non-profit organization is building a new school somewhere every 90 hours.It has helped more than 22.000 children in Africa,Asia and Latin America.

 It all started when Adam Braun was a college student. He was visiting India when a boy stopped him and asked for money on the street, Mr. Braun asked the boy what he would want, if he could have anying in the world.

“I thought the answer was going to be  'a house' or 'a car' or 'a boat'.His answer was 'a pencil'.So I gave him my pencil and he was just happy and excited . I  realized he never had been to school before ,and that was the reality(现实) for 57 million children around the world. " Braun said.

 Adam Braun started working in finance(金融) after he graduated from college, But he never forgot the boy and the problem he realized.

“We live in a world in which every child can have a chance to get a good education ,because we have everything necessary already.We are able to educate every child .  So I promised to help create that world .” Braun said.

  Mr Braun raised money for his project. He paid for building the first Pencils of Promise school,in Laos, five years ago. Since then ,his organization has helped pay for more than 200 schools in the countryside of Laos,Nicaragua,Guatemala and Ghana.

    A traveler in South Africa once set out on a long journey. When crossing a wide plain(平原), far from home, he saw a lion at a distance.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}, and followed him slowly.

    When the traveler walked fast, the lion walked fast! When he stopped, the lion stopped! {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, and then attack(攻击)him.

    He was not able to run away from the lion because the lion ran faster than him. So he thought of a plan to fool it.

    He came to a large rock. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, where the lion could not see him. Then taking a stick which he could found there, he put his coat and his hat on it, in order to make them look like a man. He then placed the stick with the coat and the hat standing in the ground above the rock. He then left quietly.

    The lion stopped and watched the coat and the hat, at a distance. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    But the traveler was already far away. Before long, he reached his own home.

    Many middle school students don't yet know what they want to do. But in fact, students may change their minds several times, perhaps even after they enter society. And some of tomorrow's careers might not exist (存在) today. Focusing on just one job in middle school isn't necessary. But looking into the kinds of careers you might like can help you succeed.

    Understanding what you enjoy and what you're good at is the most important step in exploring careers. If you don't know what you want to do, you should ask yourself what you like to learn about. If you really like science, what do you enjoy about it — the lab work or the research? It's important to think about what you like to do, because work will finally be a big part of your life.

Discover possible careers

    Once you've thought about the subjects and activities you like best, the next step is to look for careers that put those interests to use. If you love sports, for example, you might consider a career as a P.E. teacher or a soccer coach. If you like English, a career as an English teacher, a translator or a travelling guide might be a good choice.

    After discovering possible jobs, you'll want to learn more about them. Talking directly to workers on the phone, by email, or through online discussion can help you get information about what they do. Even meeting with them in person is helpful. First-hand information is necessary for you to find out if you'll really like a career.

    About the year 1900, Charlie Chaplin (卓别林) was often seen waiting outside the back entrances of London theaters. He looked neither tall nor short. He was hoping to get work in show business. Luckily, he soon got a chance to act and it was also his first performance on the stage.

    But twenty years later, this same Chaplin became the greatest, best-known comedian (喜剧演员) in the world. Any regular visitor to the cinema must have seen some of Charlie Chaplin's films. People everywhere have laughed at them until tears have run down their faces. Even people who don't understand English can enjoy Chaplin's films because they mostly have no sound. It isn't what he says that makes us laugh. It is based on little actions which mean the same thing to people all over the world.

    Chaplin lived most of his life in America and died in Switzerland on Christmas Day in 1977, at the age of eighty-eight. There was sadness all over the world at the news of his death.

    Vienna is a beautiful old city on the River Danube in the center of Europe. It's the capital city of Austria and the center of European classical music. In the 18th century a lot of musicians came to study and work in Vienna.

    In the Strauss family, there were two composers called Johann Strauss: the father and the son. The father, Johann Strauss the elder, wrote and played music for traditional dances, called the waltz. His dance music made him famous all over Europe. The son, Johann Strauss the younger, was also very successful and popular. He wrote over 150 waltzes. In 1867 he wrote The Blue Danube waltz.

    Mozart was another very important composer. He was born in Austria in 1756. Before he was six, he played not only the piano but also the violin. His family took him around Europe and he gave concerts in many cities. He wrote hundreds of wonderful pieces of music. But he became very poor and died in 1791 when he was only 35. Like Johann Strauss, father and son, he was a great European musician, and many people still think his music is perfect.
