My name's Zach, and I'm from a big family. I mean, it's a really big family. My last name is Malicek. Maybe you don't know us, but we're the biggest circus (马戏团) family in the country. We're "The Flying Maliceks"! We weren't always the biggest circus acts, though. When my grandpa Viktor started as a trapeze (高空秋千) performer in Slovakia, there was only one Flying Malicek: him!

My grandpa moved to the United Kingdom when he was about 20 years old. He quickly found a circus job working in his new country. A few years later, Grandpa Viktor married my grandma Irina. Grandpa taught my grandma how to perform on the trapeze, and soon there were two Flying Maliceks. My grandma didn't perform all the time, though. She took time off to have a few babies. She had eight of them, actually!

My father Daniel is the youngest child in the family. He has five brothers and two sisters -my uncles and aunts. All of them learned to perform on the trapeze when they were children. The people at the circus love watching the Flying Maliceks. And we all love watching their excited faces when we fly through the air.

My grandpa and grandma are getting older now. They retired (退休) from performing about five years ago. But the Flying Maliceks aren't getting smaller - we're getting bigger! I have two older sisters, and we all perform in the act. My aunts and uncles all have children, and they perform, too. In total there are 37 of us! Can you believe it?

Last year, we were on TV. We had our own reality show called Circus Family. Some people from the TV show followed us around with cameras all the time. It was exciting, but sometimes I wanted them to go away! One special thing happened when we were on that show. My cousin Gillian met a cameraman, and six months ago they got married. Now he's learning the trapeze, too!

Stupid but serious

You see a cat sunbathing on the playground. "Hello, kitty!" You smile and walk away. About100 years ago, a scientist saw the same scene(场景). But he stopped and thought. Later, he won the Nobel Prize(诺贝尔奖).

The scientist was Niels Finsen from Denmark(丹麦). He saw a sick cat sleeping in the sun. When the sun moved, the cat moved, too. Why did the cat love the sun so much? To find out the answer, Niels kept watching the cat for days. Amazingly, the cat got better after lots of sunbathing. The sunlight could cure diseases! Then, Niels invented a light to cure human diseases and won the Nobel Prize in 1903.

In fact, many great scientific findings start from "stupid" questions and small things in life.

Scientists may ask: How many lies does a person tell in a day? How many licks(舔)does it take to eat up a lollipop? Why do roses smell good? What can we learn from animal poop(粪便)? And they take it seriously. They watch, think, and do experiments(实验) until they find an answer.

"It's such a waste of time!" You may say.

But think of the great scientist Newton(牛顿). If he just said "Ouch!" and walked away after he was hit by the apple, what might our world be like?

There are many ways to enjoy learning English.

One of my students likes telling stories very much. I often ask him to tell a story in English before we have the English class. Can you guess what happens? Learning English is not hard

for him. He tries to remember a lot of English stories and tells them in English. We enjoy his English stories very much. If we don't under-stand him, he will translate(翻译) the stories into Chinese for us. Later he learns English well. We also learn a lot from his stories.

Another student has big problems with listening. She enjoys listening to songs. I offer her a lot of English songs without(没有) words. She wants to learn one of them. I advise her to write down the words one by one when she listens to the English song. She says she has never tried this way before. It is really helpful and her listening has been improved.

The two students have different experience of learning English.

"Go Farming" is a reality (真人) show. A group of young people get together to live in the countryside. They learn farming from the local 1 . In the show, farming can be 2 but it brings many good things. This may be the main idea of the TV show.

"The land (土地) never lies (说谎) to you. That's what I feel strongly about farming," said He Haonan, a singing star on "Go Farming". If you watch the show, you'll clearly know 3 he said so.

He once 4 his future (未来) a lot. He said that he worked 5 a singer for a long time and really worked hard, but sometimes he might not see any results (结果). This can be really sad.

"But on the farm, things are 6 ," He Haonan said in an excited voice. "We can always trust (相信) the land. We grew tomatoes in spring and saw 7 grow into flowers and fruits. When we 8 tomatoes four months later in summer, it felt so good. I think that's why so many people like our show—Enjoying the results 9 hard work gives people not only a feeling of happiness but also hope."

He Haonan wishes more young people to know that 10 is a good way to improve (提高), because when the crops (庄稼) grow taller, you also grow up.
