English is an important international language，but that doesn't mean it's easy to learn．①Many experts have tried to make English easier to learn,but they weren't always successful．

    In 1930，Professor C．K．Ogden of Cambridge University invented Basic English．It had only 850 words and Ogden said most people could learn it in just thirty hours．The problem was that people who learned Basic English could write and say simple messages，but they couldn't understand the answers in“real”English!

    R．E．Zachrisson，a university professor in Sweden，decided that②对英语学习者来说最大的问题是拼写 ， so he invented a language with the name of Anglic．Anglic was similar③      English，but with much simpler spelling，"father'' became “faadher'' and “new'' became “nue”．Unluckily，Anglic never became popular．

  In the age of international communication through the Internet，a new form of English might appear．A large number of world's emails are in English and include examples of“Netlingo”like OIC(Oh，I see)and TTYL，(Talk to you later)．In another fifty years，English might not be used．We might all speak fluent Internetish !

    Beijing Opera is my favourite. Bao Zheng always has a black face and Guan Yu has a red face in Beijing Opera. But many people don't know why.

    I come from America and I have lived in China for six years. I like Beijing Opera very much. I think Beijing Opera is very interesting. I can learn a lot about Chinese history. Now let me tell you the art of Beijing Opera facial(脸部的) paintings(画).

    In Beijing Opera facial paintings, different colours and patterns（图案） are for different roles. For example, a black face for fair (公正的) people. A red face is for brave(勇敢的) people. A white face is for bad people. Blue and green faces are for heroes(英雄). The gold face is for gods.

    Different countries have different customs. When you are in different countries, you should follow their customs.

    In China, it's impolite to talk when eating dinner. And you're not supposed to start eating first if there are older people at the table.

Very often people who travel to the United States forget to tip(付小费）. It is usual to tip waiters, taxi drivers and porters who help carry your bags. Waiters expect to get a 15% tip on the cost of your meal. Taxi drivers expect about the same amount.

    In England, make sure to stand in line even if there are only two of you. It's important to respect lines there. It's a good idea to talk about the weather. It's a favorite subject of conversation with the British.

    In Spain, it's a good idea to have a light meal in the afternoon if someone invites you for dinner. People have dinner very late, and restaurants are not generally open until after 9:00 pm.

    In Saudi Arabia（沙特阿拉伯）， men kiss one another on the cheek(脸颊）. Your host may welcome you with a kiss on both cheeks. It is polite for you to do the same.

    In Japan, people usually give personal or business cards to each other when they meet for the first time. When a person gives you a card, don't put it into your pocket as soon as you get it. The person expects you to read it.

    Don't forget to be careful of your body language to express something in conversations. A kind of body language that is acceptable in one culture may be impolite in another.

    Each year on Feb 21, UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) holds an International Mother Language Day (IMLD). The event is to help people to pay attention to the disappearance of the world's languages; many of them are disappearing each year. UNESCO sees this as a terrible fact.

    What happens when a language dies out? Something great is lost-not just sounds and marks but the way that people understand the world and communicate with each other. We keep different cultures and traditions through languages. Kill a language and all these are killed too.

    Through IMLD, more and more people come to realize he terrible situation and try to stop it.

    Google's 2018 Endangered (濒临灭绝的) Languages Project is a good example. Many speakers and protectors of endangered languages upload (上传) texts, audios and videos to the project website. They want to introduce the way that people communicate and express themselves around the world.

    The Myaamia Project is the same kind of effort to revive the language spoken by the Miami tribes (部落) of the United States. Project members work to encourage people to study and communicate with this language, which died out in the 1960s.

    These activities give life to those endangered languages. People who work to keep Languages alive are not limited to the past. Many young people design apps and use social media to support their activities. They "spread the word" to save the world.

    So, while the problem of disappearing languages remains a very serious one, there is hope. We all have a special feeling of our mother language. This is why we should remember the wise words of late president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela: "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to a man in his own language，that goes to his heart."
