On a snowy evening, a rich lady was standing by the road. She was very worried. Her1 had broken down. Just then a poor man named Robert came. He was on his way back home from work as usual. 

    The lady wondered, “Is the man going to rob(抢劫) me? He looks very cold and hungry.” But to her surprise, he 2 and said with a smile, “Can I help you, madam?”

    After a 3, the car was at last fixed by Robert. The lady wanted to pay him.“No, that's nothing, madam,” he said. “ I was just helping someone in4. If you really want to pay me back, I hope whenever you see someone in need, you should give him a hand.”

    My great-grand mother, Winifred Hastings, got rich in a mining（采矿）town out West. But her 1 didn't come from gold or silver, but from soup, steak, apple pie, and good coffee.

    Tom is a young man. He eats and sleeps a lot,1works a little. He doesn't like to learn, so he 2little. He can't do any difficult work, so he has to look 3 an easy job.     Nasruddin(阿凡提) was a very clever man. When a nobleman named Shah heard Nasruddin's stories, he decided to ask some questions to puzzle him.

    On a sunny morning, Shah rode his horse and set off. When he got to a crossroads, he saw a man coming to him. He stopped his horse and asked,“I say, Mula（对有学问的人的一种尊称）. Do you know Nasruddin? Where does he live? Tell me.” Shah had a habit of asking the way when he saw every scholarly-looking man. Luckily, this man was Nasruddin.

    Nasruddin looked up at the nobleman on the horse and asked,“How did you know I was a Mula?”

    “How did I know?” he bragged（自夸）.“Well, I am a mind-reader. That's how.”

    “I am very pleased to meet you,” said Nasruddin with a smile,“I live in the next door to Nasruddin. I know his address. Since you are a mind-reader, read my mind and find the way to his house all by yourself.”

    My father and I always had a bit of trouble in our relationship. It's not that we didn't love each other. It's just that we used to have 1 opinions. My dad is one of the most hard-working men I know, but I was a 2. I played sports as a kid, but 3 when I was making progress. Then I showed an   4 in music. My father got excited and 5 me a guitar when I was about eight. But I didn't like it until I was a teenager. During those teen years, I took up my guitar and 6 playing along.

    Abing, one of 1 Chinese musicians of the 20th century, was born on August 17, 1893 in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi. His official name was Hua Yanjun.

    Abing's father was good at a number of musical 2. He trained Abing in drums from the age of 10. Abing began learning the dizi at age 12, then the erhu. When he was 17, Abing first 3in religious ceremonies, and won acclaim for his musical talent and voice.

    After his father's4 in 1914, Abing along with his cousin took charge of the temple (庙)which supported the family. However, Abing didn't have the5 to run it well. This drove Abing into poverty(贫穷). However, bad luck never came6. At the age of 34, he developed a serious illness and became blind. He became 7and made a living as a street performer.

    In 1939, he married Dong Caidi, a country woman in Jiangyin. After his8Abing performed every afternoon in a public square in Wuxi. He became famous for adding news into his music and songs, 9the war with Japan. After the performance, he would walk through the city streets, playing the erhu. This was a period of many works for Abing, and his most famous composition, Erquan Yingyue, was performed in this period. Till today, it 10as a classic of Chinese erhu and pipa music.
