A dog entered a butcher's（肉贩）shop with a note in his mouth. The note read, “$10 of lamb chops (羊排），please.”

He followed the dog and watched him wait for a green light. Then the dog crossed the road to a bus stop. He checked the timetable and sat on the bench. When a bus arrived, the dog checked the number and got{#blank#}4{#/blank#}it.

    As the bus traveled out into the countryside, the dog enjoyed the scenery. After{#blank#}5{#/blank#} while, he stood on his back paws (爪子）{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (push) the “stop” button. Then the butcher followed {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(he) off.

    The dog ran up to a house and dropped his bag on the ground. He went back down the path, took a big run, and{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (throw) himself against the door. No answer. He repeated the action a few times. Then a big man opened the door {#blank#}9{#/blank#} started complaining(抱怨) about the dog and beating him.

    Seeing this, the butcher ran up and shouted at the man, “What are you doing? This dog is a genius!” The man replied, “Genius? No way! He has forgotten his key for the{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(four) times this month!”

    Red Nose Day is one of Britain's most successful {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (event) to raise money for good causes. It {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (organize) by Comic Relief and takes place in March. Many well-known comedians take part, as well as actors, musicians and other famous people. All these people in the public eye {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (brave) take on usual challenges, from learning to sing to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (sit) in a bath full of cold beans.

    In addition to a great evening's entertainment(娱乐)on TV on the day itself, there are {#blank#}5{#/blank#}great number of programmes and live events in the weeks leading up to Red Nose Day. At schools and colleges, students do silly things for cash and many workplaces organize similar money-raising stunts (噱头). Shops and supermarkets sell the famous red noses and other products.

    Through short documentary films, TV viewers learn how the money {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (collect) in previous years has helped Comic Relief to make a real {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (different) to people in need, both in Britain and in Africa. Some of the stories {#blank#}8{#/blank#} are shown are shocking. It is extremely moving to see {#blank#}9{#/blank#} people's lives can be changed. Comic Relief has been able to achieve a great deal {#blank#}10{#/blank#} making people laugh.

    No one knows exactly how the earth began, as it {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(happen) so long ago. However, according to a {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(wide) accepted theory, the universe began with a “Big Bang” that threw matter {#blank#}3{#/blank#}all directions. After that, atoms began to form and combine to create stars and other {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(body). For several billion years after the “Big Bang”, the earth was still jus {#blank#}5{#/blank#}cloud of dust. What it was to become was uncertain {#blank#}6{#/blank#}between 4.5 and 3.8 billion years ago when the dust settled into a solid globe. The earth became so {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(violence) that it was not clear {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the shape would last or not. It exploded loudly with fire and rock. They were in time {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(produce) carbon, nitrogen, water vapour and other gases, which were to make the earth's atmosphere. What is even{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(important) is that as the earth cooled down, water began to appear on its surface.

    John Snow was a well-known physician in London in the 19th century. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} famous was he that he even attended Queen Victoria to ease the birth of her babies. However, he decided to defeat cholera, a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (dead) disease at that time when he saw thousands of people {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (expose) to it died every time there was an outbreak.

    In 1854 when cholera broke out, he began to gather information and marked on a map {#blank#}4{#/blank#} all the dead people {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（live）. He found many people who had drunk {#blank#}6{#/blank#} dirty water from the pump died. So he decided that the polluted water carried cholera.     In Chinese culture, each year is related to{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Chinese animal according to the 12-year cycle. 2018 is an Earth Dog Year. People born during the year of dog {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (believe) to take after some of the animal's characteristics, such as loyalty, patience, and reliability.

    Zodiac(黄道) theory also relates to Chinese elemental theory, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}associates the 12 animals with one of five elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. The five elements {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (combine) with the 12 zodiac signs produce a 60-year cycle. Zodiac animals have both fixed and non-fixed elements attached {#blank#}5{#/blank#}them. For example, the dog (as well as the dragon, ox, and goat) is always associated with the earth element.{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the year of 2018 is considered an earth year according to the Chinese solar calendar, those born in 2018 are considered earth dogs, which carry characteristics like being communicative and responsible at work. Though dogs are{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (general) associated with earth, those born during the metal dog year are believed to be conservative and{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (caution) in nature. As Dogs are not good at communication, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}is difficult for them to convey their thoughts to others. Therefore, Dogs tend to leave others with the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (impress) that they have a stubborn personality, but they are indeed loyal to their families and friends.

    A few people have lucid (清醒的) dreams, in {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the dreamer is aware they're dreaming and can control the experience. Some others can learn {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (have) lucid dreams. The practice can be used to deal with frightening dreams. However, its potential has been limited by it often {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) so hard to achieve. Now, researchers have developed the most effective method yet for promoting lucid dreams.

    The researchers let 121 adults aged 19 to 75 pick something {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (see)in a previous dream. It was called a "dreamsign" that can serve {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a reminder to become lucid when met again. The {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (volunteer) were then handed capsules. Each person got a high-dose (大剂量的) capsule, a low-dose capsule and a placebo (无效对照剂) capsule, but they couldn't tell which was which. On three occasions, they woke in {#blank#}7{#/blank#} middle of the night, took a capsule, imagined their dreamsign and went back to sleep. The high dose was most effective, causing lucid dreams in 42 per cent of participants. About 27 per cent {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (report) lucid dreams with the low dose and 14 per cent after taking the placebo capsule.

    The potential applications are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (excite). "This new method has the success rate we need to be able to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (proper) do research on lucid dreaming," says Denholm Aspy at the University of Adelaide in Australia.
