Shi Jing, also called the Book of Songs, is the oldest existing {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(collect) of Chinese poetry. A few years ago, when Chinese musician Fang Jinlong read Shi Jing, he was interested in the stories in the poems. Because he couldn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(full) understand the ancient Chinese language {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(use) in the poems, he turned to experts to explore the poems. 

Then he decided to portray the poems with musical language by inviting composer Ma Jiuyue {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(create) an album. Titled Music and the Book of Songs, the album was released on Jan. 18, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(feature) 10 original songs composed by Ma. They {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(perform) by Fang and won great popularity. 

The 10 songs are based on 10 poems from Shi Jing, including Qiong Yao, which conveys gratitude to people who are eager to help others, and Swallows, which {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(send) farewell messages to friends. 

"Young people gave warm feedback about traditional Chinese music {#blank#}8{#/blank#}they had watched my performance. It has inspired me to create more works for them, which helps popularize traditional Chinese music," says Fang. 

"The 10 pieces sound {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(enjoy) and easy. For the listeners, it's a fresh way to comprehend poems from Shi Jing," says Ma. "We spent three years working on {#blank#}10{#/blank#}project. There are so many meanings in the poems and we want to display them as deep as possible with music," Ma says. "It's our mutual goal to have traditional Chinese music reach a wider audience."

Dora Kellert was the school's spelling bee champion, winner of the reading contest at the public library three summers in a row and the playground grand champion in chess. She was a straight-A student.

Though Dora was talented, she was no good at sports. She could not figure out in which direction to kick the soccer ball. She was no good at baseball or basketball either. It wasn't until last year, when she was eleven years old, that she learned how to ride a bike. And even then she had to use training wheels.

To strengthen her wrists (腕关节), she decided to do twenty push-ups on her fingertips, five at a time. By the end of the first set she was breathing hard. She did one more set and decided that was enough push-ups for the first day. She squeezed (握) a rubber eraser one hundred times, hoping it would strengthen her thumb (大拇指). This seemed to work because the next day her thumb was painful. She could hardly hold a marble in her hand, so Dora rested that day and listened to her brother's tips on how to shoot.

After school the next day she practiced three hours straight. After practice, she squeezed the eraser for an hour. Practice, practice, practice. Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Dora got better and even beat her brother for the first time.

The Netherlands is the only country in the world with more bicycles than residents. By 2022, the Netherlands has had a total of about 23 million bicycles, with an ownership rate of 1.35 bikes per person. One study published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that in the Netherlands cycling prevents about 6,500 early deaths each year, and that Dutch people have 1.5 years longer life expectancy (预期寿命) due to cycling. 

"The time spent cycling was about 74 minutes per week for Dutch adults aged 20 to 90 years old. The time was fairly stable over adulthood and reached its apex in the early days of retirement, in one's 60s. The death rate reduction, which was a direct result of the average time spent cycling for a certain age group, was therefore also the highest among the seniors who just retired," said Jeremy Smith, an expert from NIH.

What is it that makes cycling so beneficial? Obviously, cycling is a form of exercise. It is a great form of cardio (有氧的) exercise, which gets your heart pumping and helps strengthen the heart muscles. Doing cardio exercise may also help lower your blood pressure. 

Furthermore, solid evidence proves the link between cycling and better thinking skills. Even younger adults claim that a bike ride helps shift their thinking to a higher level — and research backs them up. In one small study, young men are required to cycle for 30 minutes every day for 3 weeks. They also completed a series of cognitive (认知的) tests before and afterward. After cycling, they scored higher on memory, reasoning and planning, and they were able to finish the tests more rapidly than before.
